Kindle Fire Fix – Help Needed

Yesterday I ordered a Kindle Fire, 1st gen. Once I get it, hopefully I’ll be able to fix the remaining issues. But it will not happen for several days at least.

The biggest problem on Kindle Fire is that the touch input in the game is off by some distance from the point where the screen is actually touched. Bad, bad, bad. So I made a speculative fix. It may or may not fix the touch problem. Actually I have pretty low confidence that it will, but it’s the best I can do without a physical device.

I have built a test debug APK file for you to try out and tell me how it’s doing:

http://db.tt/NzbnCtys

If you want to help out, please download the apk from the link above, install it and tell me (email candyrufusgames at gmail.com or add a comment to this post):

  • Is the touch shifted (the debug APK will draw a yellow cross at touch point to help you with that)
  • What are values of ClientBounds and Viewport (displayed yellow in the top left)
  • What is your device – please don’t forget that bit. I am most interested in Kindle Fire 1st gen data, but other devices may also be useful.

If you don’t want to use it, please don’t download. My bandwidth is limited, too many downloads will kill it  quickly :-) Other than the fix and debug text, this APK is identical to 1.18.2 Demo Version found on Google Play, nothing new to see there.

Btw. to install it you will need to allow installation of apk’s from unknown sources in your device settings.

Thanks!

Would the information from a Windows phone be helpful? My phone is the HTC HD7 and its one of the first generation phones. Just want to make sure if you could use my information before i download.

Oh and also how do I install it onto my phone?

    • Posted November 21, 2012 at 19:15 | Permalink | Reply

You can’t install it on Windows Phone. It’s Android package. But thanks anyway :-) I don’t think it’s possible to manually distribute Windows Phone apps outside of the marketplace, the system does not allow that.

You can distribute apps on WP7 by giving them the .xap file. The only problem is that only develops can download it.

Glad to see you’re so committed to fixing these problems though.

It would be better if you just focused on the devices that already work and add features to the program instead of wasting time trying to please everybody.

What I mean to say is, finish up electricity and whatever else you wanted to add, then go back and fix problems with specific devices. I’ve heardly touched the game because there’s nothing drawing me back to it at this point. Not everybody’s device will work, focus on new generations and not older hardware.

The demo has 50 one-star reviews in Amazon App Store due to these issues with Kindle Fire. And they are well deserved reviews. I took a gamble releasing it without getting the Kindle first, and it backfired. I need to fix it ASAP.

I suppose, however you could just tell everyone that it doesn’t work on Kindle Fire and that a fix will come out in the future.

Sorry for the attitude. I really do like SC I’m just frustrated right now. I understand that you want it to work on most devices and I was being selfish. I apologize.

You dont need to apologise to me or Kaalus. As we all understand how you too can’t wait for the next update. And if you didn’t love the game so much you wouldn’t be on here voicing your frustrations. We All Can’t wait Buddy.

Sorry Nathan I don’t agree Sc is already a great game that has been updated very often and just recently, we all can’t wait for the next update be we should understand that the more devices it works on will give Kaalus more income and in time give him more time to focus fully on the game maybe allowing him to employ some to help out. The success and continuation of the game is what we all wan’t. If you have a buisness that makes money but you stand still and don’t grow, this will lead to the demize of that buisness. your not wrong wanting more of the game, but we all must be willing to let him create a very good income too. Sorry Nathan it’s not a disgrement with you rather than an understanding of the games needs. Again sorry to sound Harsh.

What’s the point of increasing income if he has to buy every device available to make sure SC works properly? BTW Brian why do you post so much on these forums? Don’t you have anything better to do?

And more importantly if the device you are using for SC is only 2% of the market would you want him to give less importance into fixing the problems you may have with the game. i for one realise that wp7 for instance may end up being a smaller part of the games market, but i would not wan’t him to leave me hanging. Whilst everyeone else gets help.

Hi Kaalus, I have a first Gen Kindle. I only got to use it for 2 or 3 minutes but that apk was pretty close. The left side of the screen was spot on but the right side was off by about 3mm. The curser was a tiny bit to the right of my finger on that side. But if I didn’t have the yellow cursor I don’t think I would have been able to notice. If you have more questions let me know. I’ll mess with it again in the morning and see if I notice anything.

I would love to have some sort of method as in minecraft that heals you over time but you do have to replenish it. A hunger bar would be awesome to have in Survivalcraft.

    Kaalus,

The problem with the touch may just be hardware problems with the Kindle Fire. I’m afraid that they might just not be fixable :(
It could also be a problem from increasing the display size of the game for the bigger devices. I’m no programmer but this may be the cause.

Hi Kaalus hope this is what you need to confirm difference.
    CB X0 Y0 W 1024 H 600
    VP X=0 Y=0 W= 1024 H= 600
again the positions of control is perfectly positioned. The cross hair is directly in middle of the Touch.

Looking at nelson’s pic’s especialy the second one really does show the difference between the two kindle fire’s. that or those issues do not exist on my wifes one. I mentioned an update kindle in the kindles Device settings, would that have the relevant cure or update. on my wifes one there is no update available.

Yeh but is on the top rather annoying, as a simple menu button on UI would be sufficient.

I went to an AT&T store today to get the new Lumia 920. While I was there, I found the demo app of survival craft installed on a Samsung Nexus Note II. I went over and tried to play it (despite the fact that I have the full version) but when I started the app I got a pitch black screen. I tried again but got the same outcome. Hopefully this information will be useful to you.

    • Posted November 24, 2012 at 10:18 | Permalink | Reply

Hi. Thanks for the info. Are you sure it was a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (no nexus in the name there)? According to my data the game works fine on Notes. Median session length 3.2 minutes. I doubt thousands of people would be staring at a black screen for over 3 minutes :-)

      • Posted November 24, 2012 at 15:22 | Permalink | Reply

Yes it was probably the Samsung Galaxy Note II, but I can only remember that it was a Samsung and was a Note II. The black screen may be because of the slightly different OS installed or because it needed to be rebooted. By the way, Survivalcraft works beautifully on the Lumia 920. 😊
