I haven’t been posting for a while, and for a good reason. I grew seriously tired of XNA/MonoGame, so I have been hard at work to port Survivalcraft to my own cross-platform engine.
I hate fancy names, so it’s name is just it: Engine.
This was an epic amount of work, and I am amazed that I completed it so quickly :-) I had to both write a graphics/audio/input/media/content/math engine that runs on Windows/Mac/Android/iOS etc. from scratch (that bit was completed back in January), and then port the mass of code that is Survivalcraft to it. Then make sure that I haven’t broken it all.
The new engine opens up new possibilities, not least support for custom shaders, proper audio and content pipeline. I am now also firmly in control of how everything works, all the way from the top to the bottom.
I will let you know more details soon. Yes, I am not dead and Survivalcraft is alive. It is in better shape than ever before.

Or what about mods?
Mods are fan made additions really it’s so the game can have a different touch. Think of it as a way of people to make SC unrealistic if they want, but no that’s not really a mission for Kaalus.
I meant making it mod compatible, engine gives him more control over things, so I was wondering if it would make it easier to support mods.
You know, like 75% of the people who go on this blog and see that you don’t post again for two weeks or longer think that you’re dead. I mean, if you were dead, we would know about it from your friend Dave or someone else. I guess kids never learn these days :-)

Anyway, in the next update, I would like to see a block electrically controlled that can shot arrows and bolts, something similar to the Minecraft’s Dispenser…
This ain’t minecraft. This is another game. So stop making it like minecraft
Actually that block may be cool, but I don’t think it fits the theme very well.
Instead of a dispenser maybe just add tripods add the to a bow or crossbow and ta-da a dispenser for arrows and bolts

I thought Survivalcraft already elvolved really far, but this is truly astounding!

If I could review this update in just one word, it would be; “wow!”
One other thing:
Perhaps it would be a good idea to create a sticker with Survivalcraft and a block code, (with the permission of Kaalus, or made by Kaalus himself) so we could stick those in places like the supermarket or lanternpoles and such, then more people will become aware of the existance of Survivalcraft.
When one person tells the other, you will get a chain reaction of people that want to play the game!
It is just a thought though.
It deserves so much more credit and attention than it already does.
And also; If Kaalus does not appear for a while, than we know he is not “gone”, lol! (-:

Does e new engine mean the vision glitches will be fixed? My city is going to have nearly 100,000 slabs as sidewalks in the first city highway and district!
Can you please raise the sky level in creative normal worlds, from 64 blocks to at least 80-115. i build huge builds and would love to not be limited to the things i build especially in my new city by the height limit.
Now if it is not possible, or if you don’t want to do this, i will try to work around the sky limit.

Actually im a bit worried too. A world file is just a zip file of three files (chunks.dat, bak, .xml) right? Thats why we can open and modify it. But if kaalus decides to use a different system and those files become unreachable……that would REALLY suck. :(

I wonder how many block ids are left now….probably just a few. Hopefully it will be solved by this new engine.
This update should be 2.0, not 1.27. This is huge.
