Several people independently confirmed that the test build from the last post fixes the crash at startup problem.
The fix has now been published to Google Play and is available for update (version 1.24.4.0).
That means that I understand what was causing the problem. And it’s not pretty. For Android, that is. It is an extremely buggy system, and very inconsistent. Even when testing on 20 different devices one cannot be sure that the game works.
The problem is, it turns out, there were too many sound files being loaded in short succession. Android queues them to be loaded in the background, which I think is a truly idiotic idea – if I wanted to do that I could spin up a thread and do it myself. If too many are queued too fast, the whole process comes down, crash and burn. No errors, nothing. Testament to a great quality engineering! Moreover, this only happens on some devices, on others the limit does not exist or is much higher, I don’t know. Basically random stuff. And we’re not talking about excessive numbers of sounds here – there’s a couple hundred of them taking several tens of MB when uncompressed. What a joke on devices which have 1 or 2 GB or RAM.
Anyway, let’s stop ranting. The fix is to stop preloading all sounds during game startup. It means that on Android sound will not work properly until after sometime after the game has started. For example you will not hear first footsteps or block breaking sounds. Not nice, but it’s better than crashing.
On the brighter side of things I have started work on 1.25 :-)

Multiplayer.
In EXTREAMLY high demand, and when I first saw “single Player” I thought there was a Multiplayer too. Kaalus NEEDS to add this or that dude on my bus will continue to yell at me because KAALUS won’t add multiplayer.
Clothes/Armor/WHATEVER YOUN WANT TO CALL IT!

In kaaluses 1st EVER post, HE says that the OBJECT of the game is to find CIVILIZATION. KAALUS SAID THAT!!! So, when are we getting this “civilization”? Ode like it soon.

You are right about most of the things. He is definitely going to add multiplayer either that, or he is going to have to change the label of single player, because I can’t stand the fact of it saying single player without thinking there is multiplayer. But before you worry about multiplayer, we should worry about player customization. We need something to set us apart from other players. .Clothes and or Armor have to be there, because you can’t leave empty spaces with no use. When he said the goal of the game was to find civilization, he might of meant, you had to make a civilization. You had to start the new world. If he didn’t mean that, then he definitely meant some kind of towns.
Probably villages. Although you’ll be forever stranded in the world and as he says NEVER to return. :)

Wow, Kaalus actually offended me…. i love android and have and will always consider it a beautiful highly customizable, and adaptable OS with a huge amount of small dev games.
I hope Kaalus knows that android is about 80% of the worlds mobile phone market, which he probably does. But because of that alot of things are iffy with it, with hundreds of different phone types and designs, screen sizes, power, even different versions of OS. In my opinion its the phones, NOT the OS which technically is seperate, especially because alot of carriers actually coustomize the android OS for their phones.

this is an issue with Android, there are a lot of weird issues Android has like this or the soundpool bug in 4.3. I am an Android user myself but some of these issues are the things that do hold it back in terms of being a very solid os. I can understand his frustration there’s nothing like having your code broken by weird issues in an os

Asking kaalus to stop working is asking him to stop making money. Sure he should take proper breaks so he can relax a little, but he wouldn’t want to stop working for too long. The less you work the slower the games progression which means that other games example Minecraft PE will have time to add more features which means less sales meaning less money.

I think he should take a break too. It’s kind of selfish to say it won’t get us closer to multiplayer. If he dosen’t take a break he might get to stressed and start doing updates slower. Instead of thinking about game development. lets not forget that he is only human. He is not in it for the money(I think), so why should he care, he makes tons of money already. I’m not asking him to be lazy, but I think he should take a break, to not get overworked.Stress is actually unhealthy. He has been working out bugs and making new things. I think he should at least take a week-long break near the holidays. And you didn’t have to be rude to each other, you both have a good point. They said a week not a year. Not like it’s the end of the world.

i think i found a solution to your problem.you can design a volume slider control option in the game. A audio effects can be turn to the player comfort level. one control for the environment, one control for the animals, and a control for the blocks ect;

Hey guys. I found something weird in an adventure map I made. Its called Death Pyramid. When I leave or enter rooms in the pyramid, I find destroyed blocks. The signs I place also burst into flames when I leave. I also heard a few weird sounds here. To show you guys this I’m pasting the link. i was just wandering in the snow biome when i saw a white animal i thought it was a polar bear but it turns out to be a white bull. i found 2 white bulls in the same place. in another world i was just exploring when i stumbled across a white tiger

maybe that’s a bug……i found the toning is not scientific in the game.i have already known that the white=0000 and pale cyan=0001,that means if i add malachite into a pigment it means i add 0001.as so on…if i add purple flower,it meansi add 0010,if i add sulphur,it means i add 0100,if i add coal,it means i add 1000.so that we can get all the color.but there’s sth doesn’t obey the rule.if i add malachite into gray,it won’t be cyan.and if i add malachite into olive,it will be red not green.i think it should be green not red.maybe the dark gray plus malachite made a mistake,it will be dark gray and that’s meaningless.so i guess there’s sth mistake.

I said it in many posts but i’ll say again, i not ask for an large updates fantasy things or something like this , just improve the inteligence of the animal, make them run and not respaw near light or fire, because if i hide in a cave and sleep when i awake have a lot of hunger animals near, how i’ll survive this way?

What program are you using to make them? I’m using photoshop, but it keeps giving me partial transparency and I don’t know how to make the brush only colour 1 and only 1 pixel…if that makes sense to you.
To revise that statement, I set the brush size to 1 px. But it is circular and colours the pixels around it when it is slightly overlapping between multiple pixels.
The pencil mode has a square brush and colours one at a time,with no partial transparency. But it doesn’t allow me to change the colour…

Survivalcraft needs multiplayer, I bought minecraft for that one reason, though I still think SC is better
Seriously, you wasted your money on Minecraft, just because SC doesn’t have multiplayer yet. I’m just kidding. The demands for multiplayer are getting higher. SC will probably have it somewhere near March(guessing) because it usually takes 3 or 2 months for him to finish an update. Multiplayer might be harder, so it might take a little longer. And player customization is needed first. We need to be able to set the players apart from each other. Like Minecraft skins. CREATIVITY.

3# a cart the can be pushed by a horse

5# we need clothing its cold in there :p

for NPC how about others like us stranded trying to survive plus villagers
I don’t agree with guns. It would make the game too easy. NPC could happen, but I think villagers would be a little to civilized for this game. Maybe Indians, Cavemen, Immigrates or pirates. Minecraft claims to be a survival game, but having an ending, makes it fantasy. Survival games are suppose to be you vs the wild. We could just hide in villagers houses for protection, we need someone in the same state as us. But NPC is still not a bad idea. Fruit on trees, If that’s not what you meant. He is going to add clothing. Cart PULLED by a horse. That was a very good idea. And instead of just one horse, we should be able to add up to 5 horses, to move faster, to pull bigger and more carts, filled with supplies and the player, because instead of being put on top of horses or donkeys, they should be pulled by carts by horses. I think the only .thing that could replace a furnace is a campfire. I like your ideas though, especially the fruit tree juicer.
For guns I meant those olden day rifles
For the npc some civil some not although pirates highway men maybe some Tarzan and apes. Indians and cavemen and maybe other shipwrecked and abandoned NPCs
Maybe they can even take or make stuff like us ex. We put stuff in our box and the NPCs can steal em so there should be the ability to make a padlock and key and a safe and we can take stuff from em and they keep on make more stuff(the NPCs)
The rifles wouldn’t be needed now, because except for the rhino and the bears, no animal could withstand one shot. And we wouldn’t want everybody to forget about the bow and arrow, right after they are now being used. And now I understand your idea for NPC’s. I want other people, I just don’t want them to be extremly sheltered like in minecraft. Padlock and key should be added for sure. But I think he might add multiplayer before any of this.
i have some ideas, possibly to be used in a later update. i dont know how difficult it would be to make them possible, but anyway:
More food – pumkin pie, sugar, eggs, etc. (using existing food in more advanced recipes, and more new food) also fishing rods for easier fishing
Easier farming – crops don’t disappear when walking on them, only when jumping
Decorations – carpets, bookshelves, flower pots, shelves, paintings, etc.
Players and People – makes it optional to switch between a basic boy and girl (girl could just be boy with no facial hair and longer hair – maybe swap pants for shorts), npcs with villages and multiplayer.
Better boats – easier to control and possibly have a sail.
More transport – trains, mine carts and a sleigh, and maybe something that files like a balloon of plane? (reindeers or wolves could be used to guide the sleigh)
More pets – dogs, cats, birds and bunnies!
and also clothing and armor.

We have bacon, bird meat, and bread, so what can you make with this? Sandwich. We have milk, so why not cheese? We have leaves and bacon, and with cheese, you have a salad. What im getting at is we need more food variety, like corn, peppers, rice, beans, onions, walnuts, fruits, and maybe something to drink like water and fruit juices.
We have danger so why not adrenaline rushes, we have fire but no smoke, we have many items, but only one way to store them, we have electronics but no radio transmitters
