Full height elevator challenge

Now that the terrain is 256 blocks high, the obvious question is: can we make an elevator that goes from ground level (~64) all the way up to the highest mountain (~250)?

If you’ve ever built an elevator in Survivalcraft and understand how it works, you will know that the plain vanilla one will only reach 9 * 8 = 72 blocks high. This is because each piston extends by a maximum of 8 blocks and can push a maximum of 8 more pistons. Plus 8 blocks from the stationary bottom piston, gives 72.

piston3

Can a better elevator be built?

I would also like to add a restriction: no pushing of player sideways. That would be cheating :-) The elevator must ride up purely vertically, without moving player to the side. It can stop for a while though, to reconfigure its inner workings, if needed. It should also be able to come back down.

If you manage to build one, post the link to the world in comments. Having seen the 3d printer world and some others, I have high hopes. But I don’t know whether such elevator is even possible?

I really like your design Staminus. It came as a surprise to me to see how simple it was. Before you made that I tried myself a little bit but I kept reaching that 8 piston block and I couldn’t really think outside the box :/

hey kaalus, I would like to draw your attention to the problems with the spear, judge for yourself: low chance of hitting, low damage, you always need to pick up after the throw + easy to lose. you could increase the strike range, because the spear is 1.5-2 meters long and the machete is up to 0.5 m. So the spear would become a special weapon with a large radius to keep predators at a distance

it would also justify its high cost compared to other weapons

That’s certainly how the early elevators worked, before pistons were added. As long as the timing is right, it works great.

I know that it is completely possible to get within the top 10 blocks. The secret is to have a pair of pistons at the bottom to push the car up, then to swap in more pistons to continue pushing the car up. When you reach the top, you use another pair of pistons to push the car back down. Once those pistons are fully extended, you retract them and substitute in another pair until you reach the bottom. Hopefully that makes sense. I would build it but that would be extremely tedious.

It is both feasible and probably what he is looking for, but I am more interested in an actual one car elevator. No strings, no sky high wires, just the elevator. I’m not actually sure it’s possible seeing how a slime block alternative hasn’t been added yet, but I’ll give it a shot!

you are worried for nothing, kaalus, it is quite possible. remember the video about the piston self-propelled? it was added by the player as soon as the pistons were introduced. just build this device vertically and get an automatic lift! nothing that he is a little slow and moves like a goose, but it works! it is advisable to make a ceiling of diamond so as not to destroy the lift when it reaches the outside world.

Here is my train which is in my Real Color TV world. It uses the maximum you can do in a straight line with pistons. I have done this about 2 years ago. It will be the same for vertical elevators as well. I used a cage (furniture).

So, in a sense I have already done this and only note realised it.

The train is just after the big bridge. My world is in CC, but keep on being demoted. Kaalus please fix that again so it is at least a bit higher up.

Whilst on my endeavor to create a flying elevator I found a glitch. In both creative and survival, when a piston moves the battery which is powering it, and you change it’s voltage, it tries to break the battery, but instead it duplicates it. I can now have infinite batteries in survival. A battery farm. I think it should not be broken and remain solid, but should stop the piston from powering.

Ya, I had the simple design worked out shortly after pistons were introduced cuz I chose to play with them rather than the furniture first. But going up was boring so I made an infinite horizontal mover. It was on CC but it’s been long gone now. I’m now putting the finish touches on a more complex (but smoother) design just because. Maybe someone will keep at it and have something truly unique.

I think it’s interesting that some random person makes a proclamation and the evidence of its incorrectness is right in front of him. Like I get people asking how to find this site. Dudes, it’s right there in the game – just pay attention to what you’re looking at!

        • Posted January 7, 2020 at 05:49 | Permalink

Your design is simple and rough but still gets the job done, the only issue with it is that perfectly timed machines can mess up if you either double and triple click, or when you press the button while the machine is still going

I have tried uploading it as Real Color TV 2020, yet SC says that there is profanity in the name. I get this sometimes with names that are in no way offensive or profane. Why is this?

    I’ll try other names.

OK guys, I have done something that will help the creative guys immensely. Do you want more colours? I have created a new texture pack that uses the textures of marble and sandstone to give you more colours. I never paint those textures and I suppose not many do. I could use basalt as well. I have however done the same thing as with wood (see previous post or just try it yourself).

The texture pack is called Johan More Colours Marble. It will something similar on CC. I’ll post it now. Since it takes a while to get published, I’ll post the direct link here. Please just rate it later on, if you want though. This will almost triple the available colours, except for the three darkest colours.

I have created a new texture pack for creative building. It almost triples the amount of colours. I have changed the textures of sandstone and marble, since we rarely paint those.

Does any post work? Paint marble and sandstone and see the difference with this new texture pack. Compare with clay.

More like paint sandstone light grey and compare with sandstone. Srsly Igor Kalicinski, what was wrong with the old limestone texture?

This has nothing to do with Kaalus’ textures. This is a separate texture pack that gives you more colours. I had other posts that WordPress deleted.

My improvisation of an elevator in Elswyr x6 before pistons made it into the game would work, there is a few of them through out the world. There is no height limit in that design because it is a loop function that just relies on delay gates running into each other.

If you want to check it out just download Elswyr EPIC x6. Last I checjed it was pinned to the server, head inland to the twin tower thingys there is one in there.

Before I knew of the pistons I used trap doors for the more piston lift makes it easier.
to the point that my brother and I are very much a survival craft fanatic and we really wanted to play multiplayer but we only have one ps3 because there was no release for such a platform and why you don’t work on a mobile multiplayer version.
This is a great wish of mine to play with my brother this wonderful game.
    37/5000
please try to accomplish this feat

it is unlikely that kaalus will read this, better move the message to a newer post. And he won’t even think about it until the game is complete. but as we know, callus infinitely improves the game!
        so chill
