Fixes contd.

Furnace problem is now fixed too – it was trivial. I think I will leave the long sleep problem until 2.3. I can’t readily reproduce it, plus if I am right about it, it would probably take a long time to fix anyway.

Additional changes that will come with the fix:

  • Limestone is made lighter and basalt darker, although not to the same extent they were in 2.1
  • You can use stone chunks instead of stone blocks to craft stone spear/stone club/stone axe.

Btw. the reason I kept the original recipes for stone tools is because I don’t want the players who don’t read the blog (or players coming from Minecraft) to feel lost. That’s why all the original tool recipes work. I don’t think it’s a big problem you can make a stone club from one or three blocks of stone. Up to you how much you waste :-)

Hello Kaalus. Regarding the tools tweak you are making, do you think you should make it so that stone tools recipes are craftable? I think it would be relevant as it would enable players that don’t have wood in harsh biomes to use sticks and stones found in desert and dry biomes? I don’t see the issue of changing recipes. I think the amount of sticks and stones made are too much and are irrelevant. Maybe a new system of crafting stone and wood tools without crafting table?

What about making is so that the number of stone blocks you use determines the durability? I know it might add too much complexity…. But it’s just an idea

And what about restoring tools also? For example, you have a iron pickaxe which is almost going to break, you put in the crafting table with 3 iron ingots and it gets restored.
But after any X number of restorations it becomes more expensive.

3 iron to restore a pick would be pointless. But it would be nice if you could restore it for 1 or 2 depending on how far gone it was.

Here’s a bug that is small but quite annoying. On an iPhone, if you receive a call while playing the game, answer it or hang up, then return to playing the game, the game sound no longer works. To fix this you must close survivalcraft completely and reopen it.

Wow! so nice to see all the activity and posts. I must say getting new content and updates to survival craft is always exciting. So far I’ve been in favor of almost all changes made but there is one thing that is minorly annoying and one thing that is absurdly annoying. The minorly annoying thing is that buckets can no longer be stacked. This is not only unrealistic but also very impracticable. The other thing that is absurdly annoying is that you can’t place blocks while jumping. This means you can’t tower up and you have to make a two block wide tower to chop the top half of a tree. I really really really hope this is a bug that will be fixed and not a feature here to stay.

    • Posted December 20, 2019 at 21:04 | Permalink | Reply

The impossibility to put a block while jumping is one of the big changes in 2.2, kaalus was talking about this a month ago. You must be standing on something to be able to place a block. Now, building a tower needs stairs or ladders.
If you really still want that back, use the Harmless mode, where that function is available.

Now granted the new update is massively better than 2.1 there are some things I would tweak.
I’m looking at the list of changes on Google Play and Starting from top to bottom…

Terrain height doubled: Absolutely nothing to complain about!
More inventory slots: Maybe a setting where you could get more or less even on a phone but at the loss of size.
      Fixed furniture glitch: Great!
Added flat islands: Maybe a way make a detailed design for an islands individual biomes, temperatures/humidity, and terrain heights.
Great white shark: Wahoo! Rhinoceros of the sea.
Tools overhaul: Well, I was going to say save the stone spear and arrow but Kaalus already did that… Splendid! Yeah, the only other thing I can think of is a way to repair tools but that isn’t too important.
New lighting model: Yay! this makes the game quite a bit more fun. I have seen people mention bugs with it but personally I haven’t had a problem yet.
Food rot: Sooo glad food takes longer to rot. Before you couldn’t have more than 2 or 3 bacon on you and if you killed bigger animal like the the rhino or a couple bulls most of the food would go to waste even when cooked. As for compost, I am really greatfull, now rotten food has a purpose. However, it would be nice if it could be laid on top of the soil like saltpeter but only affecting one block. It’s rather impractical to dig up your whole garden every time to richen the soil. Kaalus, take your time though. I know this would mean creating a whole new item with its own property’s.
Rain drops: Rain should be able to put out fires. This fact is widely known but there is a second benefit. Every time there is lightning it is also raining. One thing that is really bugging and not eye pleasing is when you see a bunch of half blown up trees or naked trunks stuck in the ground. If rain put out fires then the trees would not be as destroyed. Also if lightning can blow up trees there has to be a way for trees to grow their leaves back because I just hate my world looking ugly. To add to that building roofs of wood could be an option. Also pleeeeeease make there be a no lightning setting in survival as well as creative that doesn’t include precipitation. I like snow. For that matter all the creative settings should be in survival and you could just choose to use them or not.
Starting difficulty: Yay! idk if already is but if it isn’t, this might include what type of animals are around at spawn.
Mimosa tree: The bark texture is the same as spruce. There are different kinds of mimosas but from what I’ve seen in general the bark is light grayish (but not white) and fairly smooth (depending on age I think). Also the sapling page has not changed since 2.1 and I can’t figure out where to plant my saplings. IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE COMMENT!

Don’t get me wrong I love all these new features but this would be even longer if I expressed how much I like everything. If I missed something please comment! Also let me know what you think about the lightning thing. Because I hate their destructiveness but I haven’t seen it mentioned. Well I think that covers it.

Cool Kaalus, great to hear the changes! Also if it helps I think the long sleep time has to do with how slow the device is. The slower it is the longer the sleep time is even tho it doesnt necessarily look laggy. Maybe it has to do with how everything speeds up even tho you cant see it? Therefore the devices have to run something 3x as fast even though they have trouble running it normal speed

Dear Kaalus, I know that the idea of banning the placement of blocks in the air arose because the player could avoid death in a few seconds and attack the offenders with impunity. I like this idea, but it just annoys 90% of the players, and in no way adds interest to the gameplay, so I ask you to give people the opportunity to disable this in the options challenge mode, as well as disable werewolves

Water holes. No more bucket stacking. Plus that water was seemingly quantity-based (a bit weirdly dysfunctional though) in 2.2.10 compared to 2.2.10.2 where he reverted the water system back to the original. Thirst is definitely coming.

Kaalus said that there were 3 big upcoming survival features in 2.2, out of which he could only deliver one. We had a tools and weapons overhaul. We will have thirst. He said that our guesses about the leaves will not come in 2.2. I keep my guess: seasons. And what could fit better in than seasons after the new trees and the new height-based temperature calculation?

We can place ladders up to the top of the tree then chop the trunks, ladders fall off anyways, so dont worry about chopping the ladsers. So its not that bad in regards to block stacking.

Still wish predators are hostile towards each other.

Can you also implement a raft?
    -10 logs

I’m sure you get breeding requests all the time… but this would more or less break the hunger challenge of the game. That said, you can make it so you can BN only breed cows (as you have Male and females) in fields vs in a protected cave. Requiring that cows to have food(grass), water pond, and sunlight… and several days of captivity to adjust plus several days for gestation. Oh the topic of water, could you at thirst to the game for both the character and animals?

    Good day

When you get to it Kaalus, think of having a new texture for Mimosa wood and leaves. There are enough open slots in the texture pack and by the time you fill them up, we would have 48 or 64 bit blocks and you can have a larger canvas and use two bits to identify texture. I have made a texture for the tree from a non-copyright image of a real tree and it is so much changed that it cannot be linked to the original image. It is not perfect yet, but maybe you could use it:

Here is a texture for 32:

and it would be great if you would at least give us the option to use 128 pixels textures, or maybe even 256. PC’s are really fast enough to handle it.

    128:

I can do leaves as well.

Kaalus, i have a couple of ideas that aren’t necessary but would be a lot cooler if you added it:
    · make pistons able to move blocks with inventory(For things like miniguns and moving platforms)
    · the ability to mod the game
    · ability to add more that 9 states for furniture (Maybe add a new block similar to the crafting bench that allows more slots to add states to the furniture)
    · maybe add a scope for the rifle, which allows us to shoot futher distances more accurately
    · last but not least, add the same ability to turn furniture into buttons and switches to blocks like the crafting bench, furnace and even dispensers! This will allows us to create more furniture that actually functions.

      I forgot to mention:
      · a Radio block, this block allows us to add custom music or sounds in-game, the sound plays when it receives a electric signal, useful to make minigames more alive by using sound effects and background music

Been noticing for a while that there are some survival features which are still present in adventure mode with survival mechanics disabled. Specifically, the level requirements for diamond tools and “running barefoot is slow, wear shoes” shouldn’t be applied with this off. (The latter also occurs in creative, which should definitely not be the case.) These have caused several problems in adventure maps, where the player often ends up softlocked after dying. Using restart mode is not a viable solution here, since it would mean restarting the entire map rather than just going back to a checkpoint.

    1. OK, I’ll admit, I was a bit negative about the changes. I then played and sure did die. That frustrated me, so I tried again and realized that I just have to play very differently. This is even without new changes, still very difficult. Remember that Kaalus has not updated the Windows App yet.
    2. That said, when will the Windows update arrive?
    3. I can now live with the fact that I cannot jump and put a block, but as I predicted, I do not cut tress down as I used to. The whole world is full of half cut trees, which is a bit of a bummer.

    4. My biggest gripe as usual is still: WHERE IS MULTIPLAYER? This is just beyond me Kaalus. Some Russian kid was able to hack your game and apparently mod it for LAN MP. I say apparently, since I could not get it working. I do not know how to program MP and cannot give advice, but at least tell us why you are omitting it for so many years? At least just tell us if it is something, that is not your specialty or whatever. Why not ask these Russians to help then?

While these guys mod your games, they are also pirating it, since these APK’s can be found everywhere. The same goes for the World Edit MOD, which is extremely great and as I understand, not such a difficult thing to make.

Anyway, thanks for a job well done. Just remember that our criticism is not to put you down. I think it is just enthusiasm for the game.

    Merry Christmas!

Kaalus, there is a resource problem, especially if you do not have caves. Coal is very difficult to find. I have played quite a while and could not find coal. I had a lot of malachite, yet had to use wood. The biggest issue is to make torches with wood as well. Eventually I did find coal at another spot, a whole 24 pieces, yet not much in the greater scheme of things.

I also struggle to find iron. I did get 12 pieces eventually, after quite a few hours of digging. I used sulphur to smelt it, since now you cannot use wood (unless you make coal – charcoal). Even the sulphur took quite a while. I found zero germanium. I think this is only an issue when you do not have caves. Maybe you could generate more resources when there are no caves, or make caves in areas where there are no mountains.

Digging also takes very long in games like these. An option for double speed in survival mode would be great, but everything double speed, hunger, sleep, time etc. This would keep the survival element the same, but cut down on wasting so much time digging. It would be more dangerous as well, since lava will flow quicker.

This would even be great when you travel by horse or boat. The double speed button could also be great for creative, making it 4x speed or something. It should be fairly simple.

Hi I think I found a fatal error in Survivalcraft for PC 2.2
This consists of a big lag at the beginning, black screen and seconds later the game stops.
I managed to record a video but currently I can no longer access it since it closes immediately so I can not send an image of the game system files.
I have a PC with windows 10 of 32 bits (based on 64) 4 gigs of ram, 2 gigs video. Intel Core Duo 3.00GHs processor

I was able to play another game, and things are going good. I have lightbulbs as only light source, alternating food of duck and bacon.

If you find copper, make light bulbs and light switch and it works as great replacement for torches.

Could use ramp blocks to have more block variety.

Kaalus, please add custom blocks, unlike furniture. You could set apart 5 or so of the textures and give us free reign on them to make of them what we want. You could by default just give them a neutral textures which we can change in our texture packs. We could use them to make different kind of planks, building blocks, other glass, floor tiles or just other coloured blocks. You could also make some of them like the plants.

You have freed up quite a bit of texture space with the 3D dropped items. It is also not too difficult to implement, actually just a few settings. These blocks would also help a lot with furniture builds.

making iron tools with worktable is nothing realistic(there is no enough temperature to change the shape).the same as fixing them by adding some iron and place these tools on the worktable(tell me how to do that)

    Hello Kaalus.
So, I’ve been an old player of your game but I really think that even with a decade long run of the game, it seems quiet unfavourable in terms of survival aspects. I have loved this game and had been in touch for almost 5 or 6 years now (considering the years I spent on survivalcraft 1) always hoping that you would balance the survival mechanics, it’s not that you are not trying and we are really happy that you are doing your best but could you please add anything else to this game that would actually help the players? I mean, you could enlarge the games’ natural food varieties, try adding rabbits, sheeps, goats, apples, melons, bananas, pineapples or berries or edible roots or leaves, with the current stock of easily accessible food item, that has only the pumpkin till now which has made the game really a stressfull experience. Not that quiet enjoyable.

Also, please could you bring back wooden tools and weapons? Just asking.

And please, bring back the way of placing blocks below our feet.

And finally, please extend the daytime, survivng seems really harsh with such a limited daytime.
