Easy

So far almost all my posts announced new features that make the game more difficult. But it’s not the case at all. Have a look at these small tweaks that will come in 2.2:

  • Reduced Piranha attack strength by 50%
  • Reduced amount of spawned cats
  • Food takes longer to rot
  • It takes longer to get flu when being cold
  • Increased damage dealt by arrows, bolts and bullets
  • Reduced player food requirement by 20%
  • Reduced probability of predators attacking other animals
  • Made creative flying faster by 33%
  • Reduced amount of sharks, barracudas and piranhas
  • Made boat stronger
  • Made leaves drop sticks 15% of the time
  • Player can swim for longer before drowning
  • Crafting ladders produces 4 ladders instead of 2

As you can see, a lot of aspects will become easier.

It is very natural and very human: every time I add a new feature I have a temptation to make it very prominent. Take flu. Once I added it in 2.1, I wanted everyone to get it. It was so new and shiny :-) So I made it way too easy to contract. Bad Kaalus.

In the many tweaks released since, I have been steadily reducing the probability and increasing the time it takes to get flu. The 2.2 update makes it harder still. Hopefully we will now reach the point where it is properly balanced.

Please it would be good to increase the duration of the days, and also if you can, increase the time in which the objects are eliminated when they die, so as not to lose them

Add smokers, only op wolves and tigers respawning instead of moose cows and other normal animals. And finally world sounds like cricket sounds in the forest or wind. I’m basically begging but I would love these features, thank you for all you have done.

Yay! I love that you balanced out all of those aspects! I’m sooo glad the food takes longer to rot, the player’s need for food consumption goes down by 20%, the reduced chance of getting the flu- all of it! I love these tweaks! You’re doing amazing things Kaalus! Keep us up! No matter what issues may come ahead- if there are any major ones- they won’t stop you from continuing to develop this wonderful, beautiful creation of yours. This game is yours, it is your work, your art, your time, your effort, and 8+ years of your life. We love what you do and we know you love what you do. we also do not have a cure for poisoning, I suggest that it is treated with charcoal, since no one produces it because of its expensive cost (at least 8 boards for one coal) so it would find a sign of accusation

Hey Kaalus, very happy to see the activity!

I’m quite glad to see that you’ve made things a little easier!
I do have one problem with the jumping/block placing change though, it’s one others have already mentioned (Just looked back after writing and it was a bit more than I thought!).
This change makes the already annoying and unrealistic process of clearing out remaining wood and leaves of a tree even more excruciating.

Trees really need fixing. There is a big different to Minecraft and Survivalcraft trees. In Minecraft there are very few large types, and these large ones are often 4by4, meaning you can make a stairway up, In Survivalcraft ALL of them are large and a bit of work to clear, with no think trees to staircase your way up, even for the really tall (and beautiful!) spruce trees.
I have few suggestions to fix this

There is a mod for Survivalcraft that effectively gives wood and leaves the same properties as Graves and this essentially chops down the full tree whenever the bottom is mined. This as well as changing how long it takes wood from a grown tree to break can make trees still have a long chop time while having no mess to clean up (esp difficult when you can’t tower up)

Preferably you’d tweak it more then utilizing existing code, but it’s a good example of something that already sort of works already there. You should also change trees so that grown wood is different from chopped or fallen wood. Currently in my first few days I exclusively look for fallen over trees. I really like this factor and still think it should be the first step/easier to do so (maybe especially easier if without proper tools). If possible scaling the chop time to the tree size itself would be great. Or maybe giving each type of tree a different chop time to simulate a similar but less exact change doing so. You can also make tree generated wood a different block from mined wood, with fallen over trees being mined/”placed” wood type, having a shorter break time.

    • Posted December 13, 2019 at 13:57 | Permalink | Reply

Now this next suggestion is probably a bit unrealistic for mobile (but if not please!), and will likely take a lot of time, likely requiring a future update dedicated to it specifically, but I’d LOVE if you managed to do so/do similar. The Minecraft mod Dynamic Trees gives beautiful growing trees put into the world. Trees actually grow from a Saplings up until they reach full maturity. Forests over time can actually grow back due to occasional falling saplings. Tree wood yield is based on size (so is break-time), anything not making it into a full block is converted to sticks. In the mod it’s set up so fruits like apples can continuously grow and get replaced on an apple tree. These trees more properly require light and will even grow towards more light. Trees can have rooty soil, with some types (dark oak) having visible above ground roots. The trees have “growth rates and mature sizes that are biome, temperature and rainfall dependent”. Branches that can be semi-climbable like ladders. Etc.. Did I mention these trees look absolutely amazing!

Again I have my doubts on the ability for mobile phones to handle, but am not well knowledge. With the complexity limit increased I feel this has a much stronger shot again. I can run the mod fine on older, rather slow PCs.

Here is the curse forge link, that I’m breaking apart because I have a strong feeling it won’t go through otherwise :)

I don’t cut the tops of the tree, but burn them, and put the next trees in a funnel of 4-5 blocks in depth and drag them to the tops and chop from the top

Matches aren’t that easy to come across early game

And you should NOT have to burn down a tree to get rid of it. It’s just silly.

Kaalus, I’d just like to ask you if the reduced food requirement can be turned on or off, food is already pretty abundant and even with longer spoil times we will still be unable to eat stockpiled food if we have a reduced need for food, so please make it something toggable or remove the 20% bonus completely on Cruel. Also please, I hope the increased time it takea for food to spoil is not a measure you are taking to delay/not add ways to conserve food such as drying racks, smokers and salting meat. These are a MUST for Survivalcraft after the spoilage update and I really hope these will be added on 2.2

I have to say…. Thank goodness haha. I haven’t played much since the “cold and flu updates” This was mostly due to how hard it made the game in general. I think I finally put it away after my food started rotting, lol. It might be time to pick SC2 back up again to work out a new survival workflow. Sometimes we old guys get so caught up in how things used to be that we forget to enjoy what “is”. That said, hell’of’a’game Kaalus. *thumbs up*

Can we get tree felling? Hack the base of the tree and it falls down? It doesn’t require anything new in the physics… just make the materials fall as they normally do. Each block can act like it is being struck when the base of the tree is struck, so that they all break at the same time and fall down. Please good sir, I would be eternally grateful. My children’s children will likely sing your praises in the land of Honalee!

Once I rode a donkey and with me were all my things that I found. I wanted to move to a new place. I have gone quite far. But when I walked past a tree, I accidentally pressed the touchpad and the donkey jumped up. I died of hitting my head on foliage. Very stupid death. I was reborn far from this place and when I came there again, all my things, along with the donkey, disappeared. Maybe he stole them? Never mind. But I want to say this: you need to remove the damage from jumping to the ceiling when you are on a donkey or a horse. Or at least reduce it. It was very disappointing to lose everything. I wasn’t even eaten by a tiger or a rhinoceros trampled. Just hit my head (((((((

I’m going to call this update “A Return to Sanity” because we have needed most of this since those OP features were 1st added.
I don’t get the elaborate ideas about trees / chopping. But lightning strikes seem too prevalent and always hit at or near the player in bad weather.
Need wolf spawn rate reduced or add a new predator to thin them out a bit more (like you did with rhinos).
Maybe when freezing to death don’t 100% white out the screen. You should still have a (small) area where you can still see to place fire or navigate to a warmer area. This may be the last vestige of overpowered ways to die in the game.
**Any way to increase how long it takes for dropped items to disappear when you do die and have to backtrack from your last spawn point?**

Kaalus could you please make the day/night cycle longer? It would give players more time exploring/gathering during the day and opportunity to venture farther in the world, as well as maybe even decrease lag during dawn/dusk.
Also, could we have a reason to use Starfish, Seagrass, Kelp, and Sea Urchins? I believe these are the last “useless” items in the game.

Kaalus, would you consider adding Iron chests?
Nothing fancy, just a reskin of the wooden chest, without the flammability.

If you are feeling generous, Kaalus, I would recommend giving people a tabbed survival mode inventory. If you allow us 3-4 pages of 16 items each, people would surely appreciate it! Sometimes, the smallest changes make the most difference. The game would feel quite a bit “newer”, with more inventory to spare.

The single biggest inventory-space-waster is clothing.
