Resource density tweaks & more

I’ve seen you complaining that there isn’t enough copper and iron in the world. Spent some time today reviewing this, and indeed I think you’re right! So, I made the resources more abundant. Plus some other changes, see below.

I’ve just published 2.1.13 to Google Play. Here’s the list of changes:

  • Tweaked cave generation algorithm to make the caves go deeper on average (it’s easier to find certain minerals deeper)
  • Increased amount of iron, copper, coal and diamond ores
  • Increased armour durability (especially stick armour – don’t overlook it, it’s very cheap to make even on day 1, and more than doubles your resilience to attacks)
  • Made boat stronger and reduced chance of fish being able to attack you on the boat (instead of attacking the boat)
  • Fixed player digging blocks behind animals when trying to hit them but missing, in creative mode
  • Increased digging time of all stone types by hand by about 25% (more incentive to make tools)

I think player-in-boat damage system should be updated too. It’ll be more realistic if only big creatures with strong jaws (sharks, orcas and so, but not piranhas) could “hurt” a boat.

      Makes sense

      • Posted July 24, 2017 at 07:48 | Permalink | Reply

No, how about only Tiger sharks, Orcas, and whales hurt the boat? Because it’ll be way too common to be sunken in the middle of nowhere because of having your boat broken because of bull sharks (small default Survivalcraft sharks) or also because of BARRACUDA, DON’T FORGET THE BARRACUDAS.

Bull sharks must not destroy your boat that’s because they aren’t never aggressive against an object larger than them in real life, they only attack if the prey seems easy to hunt down. Bull sharks are smaller than the boat, the boat in Survivalcraft is bigger, so why not? Why not cross out bull sharks and barracudas at attacking boats?

          Posted July 25, 2017 at 16:05 | Permalink

Yeah, but then how would I hunt them for food? If they dont follow and attack me, I can’t attack back and then I die because fish is one of my main food sources.

        • Posted July 25, 2017 at 16:07 | Permalink

No! It’s just they can’t break the boat but they will swim towards you and keep on circling around the boat, or push it? Or follow you until you leave the boat?

Ah, ok. Although I still don’t really like the idea of no danger from them. But I guess that would be a good compromise.

        • Posted July 25, 2017 at 17:34 | Permalink

I will tell you what’s interesting about why I think this is will make it better to have specific boat damaging creatures:

This is because you may not be seeing this on the perspective of real life, it’s fine, read all this and you may get the idea. A carnivorous fish won’t destroy your boat unless the boat is smaller than it, also because they don’t like the taste of wood, they don’t bite it, they might only smell it to see if it’s edible but not destroy it.
So my theory is, I think a piranha, barracuda and a bull shark shouldn’t damage your boat. The only ones should be the tiger shark, orca whale and beluga. If you don’t seem to like it, think about it, it makes more sense, it’s how it works in natural and it’s pretty simple, it’s not a suggestion of adding 200 animals, it’s a pretty simplistic and useful suggestion. You are going to be attacked and damaged by tiger sharks and they seem pretty common! They sworn the sea but not as bull sharks, bull sharks are not aggressive with an inedible material, they have small teeth and they don’t desire to break a boat larger than it, they don’t have the potential to.

Ok, wooow… same, I do play nearly all actual good survival games like Survivalcraft, Ark Survival etc… it’s cool how a community here in Kaalus’s WordPress are all with similar game interests. But Survivalcraft is at the top of the list on best fun realistic games, I played SC for 4.5 years and I love all this history of updates and the times of enjoyment in my life with Survivalcraft and I have shared so much fun and really imagined how interesting playing Survivalcraft is… especially the update versions 1.2, 1.27, 1.29, 2.0, 2.1
Aw… who remembers the first clothing and temperature update! So memorable! Way back in December 2014

I would like more speed on the boat, I think it is a good idea, or maybe you can add a new boat, but if it is stronger, bigger, faster and more difficult to do, it would be a good idea to explore

    • Posted July 23, 2017 at 20:34 | Permalink | Reply

I completely agree with this, I already told Kaalus many times that sea adventures/expeditions are nearly impossible nowadays with the new water transparency and tiger sharks, so adding a better boat that is not only way more resilient to damage, but that also allow the player to store a few itens in it and sleep on it is a must for the next update.

The possibility to repair boats should also be taken into account

    • Posted July 23, 2017 at 21:42 | Permalink | Reply

I also agree with this, it would make exploration out to the sea much more attractive and not to mention, it would be good to go on long river journeys with some sort of reinforced boat!

    • Posted July 23, 2017 at 23:41 | Permalink | Reply

Maybe simply let the possibility to craft an iron boat, same recipe as wooden boat, but with iron blocks instead of planks. It could be a couple times stronger than the wooden boat and why not a bit faster, I think that could be a good option.

Yeah, you should never use iron on sea, it will rust in a few days, I mean it’s in contact with water!! Water is a source of oxygen and the iron will oxidate in a few days

      Like a sail boat.
String is already in the game for rope. And cotton to make the sails.
But how to build a bigger boat with the current crafting table, or is a bigger one needed, or combine a couple or four or eight?

Big enough to hold a couple of chests, normal crafting table, furnace.
And shelter to sleep in it – travel the seas.

Agree! Sail boats gave me an idea! Let’s say:
Tier1: A simple raft (holds 1-2 players and one free block but has half the normal boat durability)
        Tier2: Boat (NORMAL SURVIVALCRAFT BOAT)
Tier3: Fishing boat (holds 1-2 players and only 1 free block e.g crafting table, chest, dispenser, or furnace)
Tier4: Sail boat (holds 4 players, 3 free blocks only and can only damaged by whales or belugas)
Tier5: electrical Steam boat??? (Holds 1 can only be damaged by whales or belugas) Or? I don’t know a name… but it requires advanced materials like electricity or a complex powering device. It shouldn’t be very necessary to be added but this gives more use to electricity which is good. (More use for Germanium/copper/iron)

Agree with the sails! In fact I’m still stunned that rope isn’t in the game, like it is in Minecraft, where animals could easily be tied in a spot so they won’t roam.

Agree with you on the cold biomes, especially with rot since rotting shouldn’t be the same rate as those in warmer biomes. The cold should slow done rotting considerably!

Mabey it has to do with the big biome size…

Kaalus, this bug existed long ago on Samsung Galaxy tab 7 when I owned one even after you supposedly squashed it and now on my RCA tablet currently in use, the infamous “dirted trees” are back and I have sufficient information regarding it’s formation and trademarks of its presence…

    Here we go :-\

In my experience it occurs during the Advent of a game crash or an abrupt unexpected end to the programs execution (I.E. your battery dieing and the device force shutting down) this is an important piece of this bugs occurrence I think.

What I mean by “trademarks of its presence” is how it manifests itself in the world. What happens is that below the effected all grass is converted to dirt and the tree trunk and the leafs remain intact; whereas, the wood surrounded by the leafs is also converted to dirt.

I am not entirely sure what is going on, but I think it is an artifact of how you are managing block type indexing during a save. I may very well be wrong as I am not equipped with your source code but my theory is that you are, for a short time during saving, mixing up the identity of the wood WITHIN THE LEAFY part of the tree, or possibly compensating for the loss of data and recreating the unsaved and unedited chunk from scratch with flawed logic in your program.

You know better than I what is going on and this may be hard to fix as it has been afflicting my world’s long before the addition of stone fences, in other words it is deeply engrained into the game now

Please let me know if it can be fixed :-D

Stuff I would like to see fixed in a soon bugfix:
    1. More meat giving animals. There is NO meat anywhere within 2 days travel in most of my worlds. Cows = non-existent
    2. Audio in Android is still very buggy. I know this is an old problem, but literally 90% of my friends and relatives complain that there phone runs it very slow. I tell them to turn on audio catching and voila frame rates go up TONS. Like from 10 fps to 50!!! Simple fix, just enable audio catching on by default.
    3. Vines more plentiful sometimes growing in non tropical biomes.
    4. Ability to choose starting biome in creative. (Needed when you want a flat prairie for big builds but don’t want flat world.
    5. Players frequently hit players BEHIND them when trying to dig blocks.
    6. This one is VERY VERY annoying when 2 players are stuck in a hole 2 blocks deep and 1 block wide THEY ARE STUCK!!! at least until one eventually gets killed from accidental punches.
    7. We pretty much NEED boats to be stronger they are a death trap on the open sea.
    8. Fishing rods… Doesn’t need to be in a bugfix… Along with minecarts but that can wait…

Kaalus, I would kindly ask if you might like idea of being more realistic in ore generation. It’s simple, trust me.
In real life, every cave deposits a certain ore. It isn’t all mixes of all resources. This means that let me say: I found this cave and all there is, is just full of copper, the cave is a copper cave! You don’t find a cave that has coal, copper, iron, sulfur, germanium and diamonds.

And ores come in ore veins? No, they come in big chunks, the size of a school bus or a car and they aren’t common to find. So, if you like this idea Kaalus, let me know, of not, then ignore this comment. I hope you have time to let me know.

+1 but before rushing into slightly more realistic geology, make it fully realistic. There could be three types of caves. Magma chambers would be a couple of kinda circular rooms interconnected with 1 to 3 block diameter “corridors” where magma once flowed. They would be found deep underground, made of basalt and granite, would commonly contain sulphur, and sometimes be flooded with magma. Another type would be a water cave. These caves would be found just below the ground near lakes, seas, rivers etc. and would be made of limestone. They would have stalactites and stalagmites and be a range of different shapes and sizes. Finally the ravine type caves would occur near mountain ranges. They would be the shape of a crack either vertically or horizontally.

      • Posted July 24, 2017 at 14:08 | Permalink | Reply

I already know sulfur only exists by magma and it exists in large quantities.
Speaking of stalactites and stalagmites caves they must only be made of limestone, yes this is true. I just wish this happens in Survivalcraft. But I was talking about ore generation jot caves

      • Posted July 24, 2017 at 14:14 | Permalink | Reply

Ow and ravines only exist between tectonic plates and in canyons where limestone/sandstone is being forced to crack apart by the water flow of the river

I think horses need to be tougher and smarter. Realistically a horse would not allow you to ride it over a cliff. I think they should suddenly go stubborn like they do sometimes and shake their heads. They should also shy away from predators. They should turn to the side when they come close enough to a predator. And I didn’t say dangerous animals because a horse and a rhino should get along like the horse does with a bull. I also think the horse should slow itself when going down a steeper incline so that they don’t hurt themselves. But since they seem to hurt themselves so easily it would be easier to make this possible if horses were a little tougher. They can only jump down three blocks or else they get hurt.
One other problem with horses is that sometimes if I have broken a trap with grass on it and kept going without picking up the grass, I will dismount miles afterwards and my horse will trot off trying to go after the grass that is miles away. I think this is just a bug.

    • Posted July 24, 2017 at 15:37 | Permalink | Reply

I agree on the idea of improving the A.I. of the horses.
Aside from that, this has nothing to do with the horse’s intelligence, but I would like to let you know that jumping in a roofed shed 3 blocks high while riding a horse kills the player. Jumping under leaves 3 blocks had also killed me. Maybe a bug? The reason of death was “impact with the ground”.
(It kind of reminded me of the SNES Mario game when Mario gets crushed by the blocks. lol)
It would more realistic to just fall off the horse.

Anyway, this game is still one of the best app I have played so far, and multiplayer mode has definitely increased the joy in playing this game.
I am playing this with my girlfriend, and she is enjoying it very much too!

    I mean:
I started a new game:islands type, 30×60 area and the other parameters were default.
I spawed an icy area with two very small sand islands. The temperature was -500°C, and no grass, no trees, just snow, ice, sand.
So this map is unplayable, because i cant craft campfire, clothes, items, tools.
So the game should check the map, and if it is unplayable, should recreate, or spawn the player(s) to somewhere else.

I have 2 ways that could actually help:

Maybe you should look for graves because graves could now drop planks, any types seeds, saltpeter, saplings, compass etc… You can make a crafting table because you planks, you could plant even in extremely cold area if you plant underground with torches and you could fertilize the plants, you could get infinite amount of wood because you have saplings (you find spruce most of the time in graves). So you map is definitely playable in any circumstance as long as it’s a large land in continent mode of generation but in island, you’ll probably be unable to survive.

I have an idea, don’t say the map is unplayable. I know it’s impossible to survive an island made of ice and snow. (No dirt, sand or gravel) but if Kaalus actually made a mechanic that detects if it’s playable or not. You are right, you made a good point. The only way is to add a starter kit in a chest beside you. The starter kit should have:
      • saplings that grow in the temperature of the area
(If the area/island is too dry then you should get):
      • 40 planks
      • all types of seeds
      • a hygrometer

An other idea is to have a type of a large dry bush that drops one oak wood block or a bush wood? I don’t know for the name, but it drops wood that could make you craft planks.

So there! There should be something that helps you start surviving the unplayable map.

I have tried this. You should do these:
Requirement: Your Clothes is enough to keep you warm( you wont get freed if you are in your house)
      – Make yourself a house by digging dirt and stone on the ground.( this need to be done first)
      – Find some stone chunks, Coal chunks.
      – Get some wooden stick from dried plants ( those plants which dead but still have green leaf).( you should do this after finishing your house)
      – Find something to eat. If you are lucky( you can find coal and stone chunks on the first day) you will have some raw bird and can cook them. Hunting birds is much more difficult now because you cant throw 2 stone in one tine to kill a bird or eat raw food without getting sick.
      – Try to live untill your clothes wear out.
My best record in 2.0 is 30-40 day i dont remember exactly. I play cruel -16 temperature, -16 humidity and +16 sea level.
With the cold weather, you can walk on the ocean( icy sea water) and hunt animal. Just make sure you and some dirt block and camp fire to get warm when you are far from your house.

Hmm… ok but you said cook the bird, how do you cook it? You don’t have wood to make a crafting table to make a furnace.

Ok, but on my map there aren’t plants. There are ice, water, snow, sand. So, i cant’t get wooden stick.
(But, i can switch to creative, plant one tree, switch back to challenge…)

Wooden stick can make campfire to help us gain warmth faster if you cant find sticks, try using dirt to make a small shelter, that help too

        • Posted July 27, 2017 at 12:20 | Permalink

I usually begin to rather dig down to have an underground house. It is faster and then you have dirt etc. to later use. You are also closer to dig for stone etc. To build a shelter will take way too much effort in the beginning. Get enough wood first. I try to make a furnace very early using a wooden pickaxe for stone and make torches with coal from wood (charcoal). I then make a machete and spear with stone and gather food. Then get more wood with stone axe. I build a shelte much later. If you are close to a mountain, dig your house into it or next to a cave.

Where have you been since survival craft 2 was released? ALL maps can be made unplayable, just set humidity to -12 or lower.
No wood, no crafting table, no crafting just pure survival. Similarly setting the temperature to -16 will cause pretty much instant death too if you don’t spawn right next to a tree/coal patch.

    Its great fantastic.
Now can u work on rain.
Like rain level, rain hits the ground effects, rain direction, rain drops on trees and glass, mud or moving mud,the rain sound on glass and ground, when the rain level on the high level make torrents on mountains, and wet places after the rain.
    And the four seasons.
    Packbag for exra things.
At least work on rain program.
Make the horses get hungry to keep them alive.
And a rope to tie them on trees.
Fishing rod,its dangerous to go down the water.
    Add Thrist,bleeding,get damaged,and treat wounds.
And make a chance the make critical hits, kill the animal with one hit on the head with bow, cross bow, gun, and make chance to stap the animal.

Fishing rods are the simplest to implement. I’d really love to see 4 seasons. Make survival a lot more interesting.

Actually, fishing is a very complicated feature to implement. Just making a pole is easy – using it realistically is not.

Well i mean I can think through how it would work. Cast line near fish, fish gets hooked, reel in line, when line is all the way reeled in, fish lands on land near player and suffocates. But just cuz sounds sounds easy doesnt mean it is easy.

It’s coding would be WAY HARDER to make than the visual action. And when I said “No” I was talking about seasons.

I have a problem with playing with a Xbox one wired remote. I connect it on PC to play Survivalcraft 2 and as soon as I connect the remote, the audio cuts off. Any Suggestions??

How did you connect the Xbox one? Wired or wirelessly?

    • Posted July 26, 2017 at 22:37 | Permalink | Reply

Sorry I didn’t see when you said Xbox one wired,
      no problem, Ok here:
      – go to the bottom right of the screen, click on the volume icon and it will say Xbox controller built in headset and there are other options under it.

      – click the one that says PC speaker or something, or even better click and try all of them, one of them will be the computer speakers.

      – one of them will be the normal sound that outputs out of the computer which means the audio is now normally heard even when the controller is plugged and played.

Now that the problem is fixed, please let me know that it’s all issue-free. It should be.

I think it is about time we got some kind of animal that will defend us the way other pack animals defend eachother. I think a domesticated dog would be awesome, and out on the open sea dolphins could do it too. They wouldn’t have to be tame, they just have to be docile and if one happens to be there while you’re out at sea it will defend you. Maybe even bring you to the nearest dry land if you lost your boat. But dolphins are a cute idea wether they defend you or not. Maybe they could leap out of the water and chatter. 😍

    SUGGESTION:
Kaalus, can you please make spears hit reach 3 blocks? This makes so much sense because spears are known to be good at hitting targets and poking them from further reach. I don’t understand why in Survivalcraft, spears are so short, so you may want to tweak the model and make the stick longer. Please

    • Posted July 26, 2017 at 11:10 | Permalink | Reply

Also spears are quite expensive, they require three of the material to be crafted and they have less damage than machetes. So this may make it fair.

BUG ALERT!!! In Static Mode Sand Doesn’t Fall… I was experimenting with building a 3d printer that needed sand to fall, and I don’t want animals tramping around everywhere…
    Gravel doesn’t fall either.
Maybe this “bug” has been around for a long time I don’t know…

    • Posted July 26, 2017 at 14:04 | Permalink | Reply

Actually it is just a feature in static mode that blocks do not fall. Unless I’m mistaken, if you read the description of static mode, and I’m not sure where that is, but it specifically says somewhere that blocks don’t fall in static mode. It helps make adventure worlds if you have that feature. Because if you want to create some big sand or gravel thing and don’t want the whole thing crashing down while you’re trying to build it, but you want it to fall later, you have to build it in static so that doesn’t happen until you’re finished.

I think the four seasons should be added, likely is a lot of work, but worth it. It could be done by making biomes latitude dependent. For example, deserts and jungle would only be near the equater 0,0. It would always be warm there. Temperature drops the farther you go from the equater, and snow biomes would be removed. Snow would only fall when temperature drops below zero degrees celcius. If above zero, it changes into rain again. In summer, temperature heats up, and you can plant crops again, ( winter will kind of force you to hunt, which is cool.) In summer, tree leaves are green, in fall they turn red, yellow orange etc. In winter they are just a more dull shade of green. Biome size is still important, but the biomes only go in the right areas. We could have a calendar panel that can be opened from the inventory screen, each month could have 8-10 days so you can tell what month\season you are in. This would be a game changer, and would make SC a lot more interesting and difficult, depending on where you would want to live. Let me know what you think!

Hey, how about carrying item depending on the amount of weight a character could lift, since slotting is kind of unrealistic. for example, a sword weight 5kg and walter could carry 50kg of weight thats mean he will be able to carry 10 swords in his inventory. however you can carry as many different things you want, no limit of types. you can he can lift more than the limit of weight but he will move slower. toooooo heavy will cause player unable to move also, limit of carrying items increased when level up. sorry english.

This idea was tossed in with backpacks, and would be great because of all the cloths needed, but “true” multiplayer will make all that meaningless.

Kaalus… I found a big problem. This is related to sea transportation (no! It’s not what I mentioned before, it’s not about boat damaging), this is quite interesting, and definitely is not a bug but here’s what happened to me:

It was sometime today when I created a world and played in cruel, I decided to collect wood, crafted a boat and go to a nearby island I’ve seen in the distance, I was not stupid enough to just go in one boat… Or else it means death… so I carried an extra boat in my inventory and obviously as usual, my boat sunk because of frequent shark attacks, I was already planning this, i was ready! I was very anxious and confident i would reach the island despite the shark attacks because I had an extra boat, but it seems in Survivalcraft, that you can’t place boats on water, you have to place it on the ground in water! I knew this was in Survivalcraft for a longtime but…. and no! Placing it on a boat doesn’t work! I tried it!
How annoying is to be like this??!! Please fix this! This is nonsense, it’s so annoying and it means that boats are useless in the game in challenging or cruel mode! Please, it’s not a 4 months work coding! Can you work on being able to place boats on the surface not on the water bed/sea bed? Survivalcraft is becoming very annoying.

Kaalus, I have kindly shown you a problem, this problem takes simply less than a week to fix. Please include this fixed in the next bug update or in the whatever update there will be next.

I wonder in real life, will sharks attack us if we’re on a boat?

      • Posted July 27, 2017 at 09:07 | Permalink | Reply

        Answer:
No, they don’t have the power to break wood with their jaws, but if you were let’s say on an inflated raft, it will bite it because this a soft material that be easily cut their jaws. Sharks like the great white shark, have the power to actually damage your boat. No sharks somewhat have the desire to break it.

        Behavior:
The only things sharks would do is try smelling your boat to test it’s edible, they wouldn’t destroy your entire boat and keep spamming bites all over until it sinks.

An other reason is curiosity, this behavior will be seen as circling around your boat to find out if it’s food or not, if you fall to the water, one of them will swim towards you and try ending your life.

An other reason is when the shark has become annoyed from your existence in its territory. This in Survivalcraft would be if you hit the shark, this means that it will try attacking your boat or pushing you away from its ocean waters.

They don’t destroy your boat to eat you, keep that in mind.

    • Posted July 27, 2017 at 21:02 | Permalink | Reply

This is just like in real life, when you go around with a rowboat in your pocket. Why not swim down until you find the bottom, place your boat, there, and get a quick ascent to the surface in /on your boat? Just keep a sharp lookout for sharks… 💀

      • Posted July 27, 2017 at 22:48 | Permalink | Reply

I do this for emergency use. I already did this yesterday, I played cruel and I wore full copper armor to ensure full safety from bites and as an extra diving kicker given by the heavy armor which makes you sink to the bottom real fast allowed me to reach the sea bed to place the boat, after that, I just spam jumping! And phew, I have ridden the other boat which has just been placed.

this all is just too risky, I don’t recommend trying in a precious world were you reach level let’s say 28 and it’s in cruel mode.

      • Posted July 27, 2017 at 23:04 | Permalink | Reply

Yes, I did survive the sea expedition, how lucky! I went on a boat in the first place to find an island for certain exploration reasons, I did find an island and survived for one day, until I died getting crushed by gravel that wasn’t even under me! It’s a stupid feature in my opinion! Now I lost my level 3 cruel mode with copper and reached a faraway island

Guys, you die instantly if you got hit by small pebbles the weight of a human all of them together while wearing a helmet, but it takes 10 hits to die by a wild boar attack. <– we absolutely need a meme for this dumb situation. I'm serious!
