Long sleep time

I am aware of this problem, but there is no easy fix.

The problem is, the game is fully simulated in the background when the players are sleeping. This must be so. You want the animals to get to you when you forget to lock the door. You want your crops to grow. You want your food to rot. You want your electricity to work. And so on.

Of course, simulating entire night (8 minutes of real time) plus a usually a good part of the day, depending on when you went to sleep, is not going to take a few seconds.

What I am doing for 2.1.2:

  • I optimized away certain things to take less time during sleep. For example texture animation was done unneccesarily.
  • I speeded up the time even further. This means you might get really choppy framerate while sleeping. But I don’t think the Zzz… moving smoothly is the most important thing in the world.

What you can do:

  • Reduce your visibility range. The larger the amount of terrain loaded, the more work the simulation has to do. For example, the game is constantly scanning the entire loaded terrain so that every block is polled at least once per game time minute. The more terrain there is, the more polling to do. Apart from animals physics/AI, this is the most time consuming thing.

Should be releasing 2.1.2 soon.

But are you going to do anything on the other requests. It is really quite difficult to even survive in harmless now. I get it is a challenge, but this will drive away casual players. I am repeating all the concerns here.

By the way, even though I’ve been here very long, this is the first first. hahaha. You don’t need to be a kid to enjoy this. Just joking.

Survival craft is far from hard or difficult to play, even with challenging. I had my house on the beach, not in the deep forests. So I don’t get tons of predators out of my house all day long. Besides, easy way to prevent animals around your living spot was by building fences surround your house. Make plenty of light also do work. Torches, light bulbs, jack-o lantern, or even christmas tree helps. This is for challenging, if you consider it difficult to play harmless, that mean you are just a rookie to this game, learn how to punch trees first.

My boys just told me how they just died over and over, panthers, rhinos, tigers etc everywhere, flu, hunger and more and that in harmless. They also mentioned that a rhino and others get through a one block hole many times. Is this normal? Things are getting a bit bizarre.

Yeah I agree, I also think that there are way too many predators spawning, can’t even make a step out without being attacked by hyenas, a couple of wolves, lions and leopards xD this even at daytime… we kinda don’t stand a chance as they run way faster than us and kill us within two or three hits.

I would like the day to last longer, lost 15 minutes or a little less because it is going too fast, besides I have a doubt, as I do for my character to want to eat what I give, I have to wait a certain time for it I crave it or what? And lacking a medicine for flu is very uncomfortable

There’s a thought — when you have the “flu”, grab some now-mouldy bread, make/extract penicillin (with near-zero shelf life), and eat it to help get healthy faster. :-) (I know, influenza is viral while penicillin is an antibiotic. However, Survivalcraft’s “flu” seems more like a placeholder for “got sick from being cold / having a weakened immune system” (vs. actual influenza), so it’s at least plausible…)

Kaalus, have you contacted the buyers of SC on Windows store that had the same issue as me over the “,” that causes it to crash? The rating on Windows is store is very low because of this.

Concerning Windows, I must admit I’ve been playing on Windows only, and now went back to Android. It is much more difficult playing this on a phone than with a keyboard and a mouse. Keep this in mind when you plan new difficulties, because I suppose you also mostly test this on Windows.

    A bit busy tonight…

Kaalus, you have freed up quite a bit of texture space, could you please give us some custom texture blocks that we can assign to what we want to. Let say you give us 5 or 8 blocks and you can just make them coloured blocks which we can change as we like in texture packs. You can just add them to construction and only for creative, not craftable. They can be mined though from a build. Just an idea that won’t take a lot of time.

You’re calculating the total slep time wong. It should not be “entire night (8 minutes of real time) plus a usually a good part of the day”, but only long enough to fill your “tired bar” (yes, I know that isn’t really a thing.)

You should tune the sleep time so that you normally sleep about 1/3 of the game day. If you decide to take a nap in the afternoon, it sshould be much much shorter. If you pull a marathon all-nighter after a full day, you should sleep more.

But here’s the most important part: you should only sleep as long as is needed to be rested, *NOT* until morning.

And because better than the night does not happen fast and only happens to the day without that the time passes would avoid that descent of frames

This is not about just playing SC, it is about the beginning. I can also survive in my current worlds. The beginning is difficult. If you choose a new world with a large biome and you begin in a cold place, you are dead, you’ll get flu straight away and die. This is unrealistic. This is just one example. If you spawn in a desert, you’ll have no wood, just sticks. Your best chance is getting birds, but now you are not allowed to eat just birds, so you have to get eggs as well, which now has decreased in big birds. Can you see the problem yet?

I’m with Johan on this… I find it to frustrating to start a new world. Unless you happen to “get lucky” on your starting point, you quickly get overrun by mobs. If it takes you a few nights to get mining started, coal, and find some food.. you are likely dead from the spawns on your “house”… not counting flu, starvation, etc.
