One new survival feature for 2.1: food rot! All food will rot after some time, no more stacking forever:
Eating rotten food has dire consequences, see for yourselves:
So, the funky yellow and green image I showed you a few months back is actually a rotten egg. Congratulations to the person who guessed correctly – great insight from such a little clue!
As you can see, there are new 3D models for all food items. More info about new survival stuff coming soon.

Great! I always joked with my brother about a vomit block. :-P
That could be a meme
And what is the leveling about?
And the yellow thing? Sorry about the triple comment. Now nobody can say first, second, or third! :-)
You mean the bucket?
Yeah
I think I found out what the Yellow bucket is. It’s cheese. I mean cheese is made from milk so I would have to guess that he added a bucket of cheese. As for the level1 thing and the bar next to it idk *maybe a new way to determine the temperature’
You are right. It can be cheese.
The early way to get cheese was to store milk in a ruminant’s stomach, so I doubt that will be added. Maybe a later way, though.
Colbyfranknorth u suck
Thank you. I tend to think people that use straws are stronger than those who use spoons. Can I get an amen?
Bad Omen
Sick and Poisoning… 3D Food… Interesting…
Also, I’ve seen a “Level 1” in the Hotbar, what exactly is?
Also, doesn’t exist a way for completely preventing rot?
Sure, may not be completely realistic, but seems a good idea Gameplay-Wise…
Also, I don’t understand if the music is just a random music or if 2.1 properly implements music
Salting, freezing, canning or pickling are simple ways to prevent rot.
Really interesting… That “Level 1” and the new temperature bar…
Honey
Don’t forget the match! They also need a 3D model in my opinion
Also flour!!!
SALT!! KAAULS YPU GIVE US ROT WE NEED A WAY TO SLOW TGIS DOWN! GIVE US SALT!!!
You*
Wow I cant seem to be able to type today… Lol We need salt.. Or food to be able to interact with cold. Ice blocks/snow should slow the rate of rot.
cooking the food makes it last longer. but maybe a freezer would be good to keep food to last longer
We have saltpeter, don’t know if there’s a difference.
+1tyul yeah but survivalcraft uses saltpeter for a lot of things and its kinda difficult to get. I think its used in gunpowder and for farms. I use most of my saltpeter for ammo.
LOL. Saltpeter would do the opposite of preserving. It’s a product of bird droppings! Used to be made from bat guano…
Actually, saltpeter prevents rot as well, so he would not need to create something new.
Turns out you’re right – as a source of nitrites, it does preserve food. Although it’s also considered a hazardous material and may even be carcinogenic. I just hope this wouldn’t be the only way to preserve food (if at all). Then saltpeter would become the most valuable mineral in the game! It’s already so hard to find a reliable source, just to use as fertilizer.
And paint thinner, which I don’t really understand…
Can we salt the meat to keep it from rotting please?
And perhaps create a cooler using ice or something to store it?
Pretty cool dude. PS any chanceyou might be working on a way to make survival easier at all? New tools? Settings maybe. Longer or length of day settings?
I called salt FIRST! :PPP
If I surround the food with snow blocks will it keep it fresh?
Like a refrigerator or cooler?
Yeah. It would be great if a fridge could be made as furniture and food put in it. The fridge could have snow blocks surrounded by iron or other blocks to make its appearance more fridge-like.
Yeah
Yes, we need something to stop the food from going bad. I love the game but you have to fix this food rot. I have stopped playing it until this is fixed.
LOL.
P.S.S.
You’ve been working on this game a long time! Its fantastic. I wonder what else you do. ;)
Nice! But I wounder about the sickness. It is made with many details. Just for the case that sombody eats bad food. Will there be another usage for sickness(poissoning animals?). maybe there will be an argument for eating old food?
It would be exciting if you are starving and start to eat old food because of the hope (maybe about 50%) there would be no sickness.
As the player now can get sick, I guess some of the other new survival stuff is gonna be about some kind of medicine to cure it? :p
It would be nice.
Hm, so we are going to get status effects in SC now(at least poisoning anyway) and by the looks of it EXP as well. Maybe we can get other types of “potions” as Well? Like you can make sone type of stimulant that makes you run faster or do a little more damage but you get tired faster and use up more food, that would be pretty cool
The only realistic way to implement that would be drugs, and that’s 1. bad for kids, and hopefully not but sometimes adults, and 2. they would come with nasty side-affects. Hopefully.
You have to remember, more things give you “effects” in real life other than illegal drugs. Caffeine gives you energy, therefore in SC stamina/speed. Painkillers could give extra health for a specific time. I’m sure there is more.
eating healthy, moving frequently would be a good implementation t’where if you don’t move often your character moves slowly but as they move more they gain more stamina, run faster, breathe longer, and gain more strength (damage). and if they eat way to frequent they become slower and jump lower. and if you eat right then you gain stamina etc… to eat right you would have to keep the hunger bar above 5 (Hunger bars) and below 8 HB.
Yeah even though this is a feature we’ve had coming for some time, I can’t say I’m excited for it. Also projectile vomit… yeah idk about that
Hey Kaalus, just a suggestion I had, keeping on the theme of realism with SC and this new feature, how about in a future update you allow players to create compost as an alternative form of fertilizer using the new rot?
>XO==3 This is a nasty idea by what if we could place a 3d bucket on the ground and be able to puke inside it, or puke in a 2×2 or 1×1 block area then be able to scoop it up, and combine the bucket(s) with a piece of dirt, sand and a bucket of water to create fertile land block where plants grow faster. Cant use saltpeter to increase the growth anymore. And after x amount of days the blocks either rots and unusable or turns back into normal farm land.
I mean cant use the saltpeter to increase the growth anymore on the fertile land block. it can be still used on the normal farm land.
Hmm, I don’t think puke would be suitable as fertilizer, rot would as it encourages bacterial growth which is good for plants, but puke doesn’t decompose, and is highly acidic, which plant’s don’t like.
Kaalus, this is absolutely amazing, food rot was definetely what survivalcraft needed to become a perfectly challenging block survival game. Congratulations for adding food spoilage!
Kaalus, since you are adding food spoilage, I think it would be nice to add drying racks to make jerky and make meat last longer, also, since eating raw meat may cause sickness, can you add the abillity to cook on campfires? I’ve been waiting for cooking on campfires for quite a while.
Did you guys saw a new type of food in the video? Looks like some sort of stew or soup inside a bucket
could it be cheese? I kinda see it as cheese. since there is milk and milk makes cheese and all.
I think it is spoiled milk.
Well it cant be spoiled milk bc theres a molded version or the yellow stuff.
A pumpkin stew would be a possibiliyy
When you have some durian fruit
You gotta make some durian tarts
Now there is no more bringing a bunch of food and staying in a cave for weeks :)) Thank you Kaalus, appreciate your works.
If you salt them will they last longer?
Maybe
Kaaulus if you give the animals rotten food will they get poisoned too?
they probably wouldnt go after the food. But who knows anything is possible.
Hyenas are scavengers they are immune to rott carcasses
omg what if we could give hyena one and it would become tamed. “No I don’t mention it bc minecraft has tamed WOLVES so for you ‘This isn’t minecraft’ Douches this response will most likely stop you. I really like games that have companions in them”
That’s unlikely Kevin Richardson can hang out with lions and hyenas he is an lion whisperer and a hyena whisperer
OMG!! You can vomit that so sick and realistic at the same time!!
Sick and poisoning now kaalus add honeybee so we can eat honey in a bee hive and the bees will attack in horde with a painful sting also poisonous animals like snakes, scorpions, spiders, and jellyfishes for a poisonous sting
So it was a rotten pumpkin that SighMoon saw in the Islands video. And 1tyu1 guessed it already in that post. WOW!
Huh, how about that! I had completely forgotten about that comment! It’s a good feeling when you learn that an old prediction came true.
Kaalus you should add some features about animals like this wolves should hunt or attack together like a pack same with lions, and hyenas, also add a female lion(lioness),also add juvenile animals like a calf, cub, pup, also social animals should be in a huge group of herds like gnus, bisons, reindeers, zebras, also same with birds
Hear me out Kaalus. As a ‘cruel mode’ player, I don’t like this change. Perhaps you should make something that will not make the food rot when you store them, like ‘refrigerator’ or ‘food storage something’ since refrigerator might be too advance do to realistically.
Hopefully this new “survival” feature has an OFF switch. I don’t see myself using that. Ever. Not your best thinking in terms of possible imporvements to the game. SMH.
Yeah, this will affect adventure maps.
That’s really cool! Does the same happen with unripe pumpkins?
An unripe pumpkin first ripens to a ripe pumpkin before it is able to rot…
I eat untie fruits is it a good idea to eat untie fruits?
Great idea. This could be troublesome for many adventure maps.
Hopefully, Foodstuff cannot rot in creative or adventure maps.
Talking about Yell Ow won’t STFU
I’m pretty sure that the bucket is full of honey.
Maybe some honeybees
I dont think so, it had a rotten verwion next to it, and honey does not rot. Atleast not in a few thousand years..
Yes it does I tried eating a 2 yrs old honey it taste bad and made me vomit
You probably had commercial honey which is not raw. Most honey that you buy in the app is rubbish. Real honey will not go off. Also, if honey does not become sand ish sugar, it is not Raw honey. People also dilute honey with syrup. This honey will go bad.
I see
now we need refrigerator :v
My guess about the level 1 thing in the video is that the player gets stronger and faster the longer he lives and each level up he does boosts his stats!!! But as soon as he dies he loses those stats and goes back to level 1. This makes it worthwhile to stay alive for a long time in challenging and harmless. Previously if I was hungry I would just kill myself in my house. This gets rid of that way to cheat. This feature would be awesome if that’s what it is!!!
Or maby it is a new mode that gets progressively harder the longer you play. So level one would be easy no animals attacking or lightning. Level 200 and you will be running for you life from a pack of wolves while a lightning storms turns you into burnt toast☺!!!
Remember he just started keeping track of many stats. When I saw that, my first thought was levelling up. And wishing we could access the stats in an adventure map…
I think I had saw many new stuff here, such as rotten food, level, and maybe you change the style of the status to be opened up. It feels different when you opened the status ( the big inventory)… maybe I was wrong and ….
I have bad english
The inventory and stats when you opened feels different and amazing
How long before something rots?
Pumpkins can keep for years where I live.
Will it depend on here it is? (Put it out side in the snow – with a wall around it so it doesn’t get eaten.)
Now all we need is medical items, bandages, cures and a more child-friendly drug system.
Aww no Green Eggs and Ham!
Kaalus why not turn on Likes for comments?
Great Feature!
Will this also affect harmless mode?
I like the new textures,
but what is the level 1? Is Exp?
Maybe…
Maybe
For people who play SC for the enjoyment of exploring the cool random landscapes generated, and mining for ores, and stockpiling foodstuffs and furnaces, and coal, this (food spoilage) is a total slap in the face. Now your chests with hard won meats and eggs, and pumpkins, will all decay and the prospect of eating it, is something worse than starving. If it’s an update (and not being not sold in App Store as: SC3) then I’ll skip the download and remain in the old, less ROTTEN version. 🙂
Hey, I have a BETTER idea… put more frikkin’ pumpkins 🎃 in the game so they are easier to find. And maybe have them grow back in the same place after an interval. Make pumpkins act like the vines they are, a living plant, on which the pumpkin fruit grows contnuously, until winter.
Make boats ⛵️ bigger, so they can hold the player with room for other items (crafting table or chest). If possible it would be great to have small sails so you can use wind to blow you 🌬 out to sea and back again.
For crossing large snow or ice-floes more quickly add sleds that can be pulled along by a horse 🐎 or a reindeer. (Requiring saddles, a boat or planks, iron – for skids, and rope). Maybe add fur blanket option using bear skins, so you can stay alive in Arctic biomes).
Thanks, Kaalus, for making campfires better, and able to last the night if stoked up in advance. Thanks for adding sticks as a resource as well.
We all should have expected this. Most of his survuival updates are on the lines of “Three exciting new ways to die!” with nothing in there to actully help the player.
For example:
* Cool Crossbows! – Except they are expensive to make, have a slow reload system, and don’t actually do significantly more damage than a normal bow and arrow.
* Awesome Muskets! – Even more exoensive to make, even longer to reload, *can* be a single shot kill if you’re lucky enough to actually *hit* the critter
* Clothing! – Ok, this one was actually nice. Except they wear out so quickly that it’s barely worth the trouble to use them and it came couples with an exposure system that basically means you freeze to death is you get caught in the rain.
* Weapons miss chance! – With no way to improve your “skill” with a weapon. Supposedly the axe will do “massive damage” with a “high miss chance” – except it barely does more damage than the machete. At keast you were right about the “high miss chance”.
And now… Rotten Food! Why? Just, why? Do you really hate survival mode that much?
Well Survival craft is suppose to be realistic after all (minus the blocky structure) you cant just wave a wand and have your crossbow insta reload, Muskets if you ever known one normally wouldn’t have good accuracy, again doesn’t need a wand to insta reload in real life a musket needs bullets and several materials to be choked into its muzzle. Clothing Sure I do agree the durability is either low or breaks fast but Then again what would you need the extra wool for. Weapon accuracy is realistic too. Not every swing that you throw in real life would hit the Critter
I beg to differ. This is SURVIVALcraft, not “ooh, look at the pretty flowers” craft.
And you don’t know the full extent yet. He always has something more in the releases that he doesn’t spoil (pun intended). Smoking/freezing/salting/canning/pickling are all natural preservation methods.
I would want to see all of this ideas in the game too.
OMG!!! That two seater boat idea is soo from minecraft. I’m going to have a hissy fit bc you mentioned something from minecraft. *This is a joke not an actual did*
:/
Hey, kaalus, when you vomit, does it put out a fire? If not, could you make it so if you vomit on a block on fire, it will put it out? Could be cool for adventure maps.
And also realistic.
I’ve got an idea, how about we can craft furniture with an ice block to make it a fridge where food won’t spoil! Also, does flour spoil?
This might also confirm we are gonna have a refrigerator.
Maybe
A real refrigerator!?
maybe we can do jerky and dried fish for preventing rot?
Or biltong… if anybody would even know what that is.
Beef jerky delicious
Rot a lot
Kaalus can we store food that can’t be rotten like a cooler or refrigerator
?
Something totally off subject… well… we should get medicine to cure the sicknesses/diseases. I also think you should get an infection if you’re bitten by an animal (I.E wolf, hyena). Also add more sicknesses. I’m the type of guy who thinks games shouldn’t be a field of roses. I think they should have some challenge (besides the levels). Also, a cooler would be nice. And, if not too much (or a much, much later update) add cars. I wanna drive my 1941 Mercedes down my cobblestone road. Leading to my giant how with rotting pumpkins out side it. Then I’ll go take a ride on my horse with a carriage. I’ll go to the store and grab some biscuits and eggs. Maybe pick up some cheese. Then I’ll pay and go home, and cook dinner on a gas stove. Kaalus, these are the things I want in ANY future update. Because (we all have to admit.. well some of us yes) that we want there to be cars and carriages, etc. So, world, consider my… idea.
Personally, I think there should be an option similar to animal tracking where it can be turned off. That way if someone is still a beginner and doesn’t want to experience the punishing world of rotting food, they don’t have to.
This is sick AF
@kaalus Good idea to add rot on food like on the real life survival.. But can you add some preseving method.. Like salted or sweetened or like icebox item that make food has more lifespan. So we will not hunt everyday for food and we can make other things like crafting and deco. And farming. Besides its based on real survival techn. Too.
I would like to be able to make milk into cheese so that it can be kept a long time.
As if it wasn’t hard enough to get food and survive in this game.
