All The Cats

There are more animals coming in 2.1. Meet two new dangerous cats:

They all spawn in caves too. Jaguar is almost impossible to spot in the dark and it jumps high, so beware!

I’ve also noticed a lot of people complain about animals spawning in their houses / gardens, even though they are enclosed. To prevent this from happening, keep them well lit and buildĀ artificial floors or pavements. Animals will not spawn on man-made surfaces, like cobblestone, planks or bricks. They only spawn in a natural setting, and when it’s dark.

Rot!

One new survival feature for 2.1: food rot! All food will rot after some time, no more stacking forever:

Eating rotten food has dire consequences, see for yourselves:

So, the funky yellow and green image I showed you a few months back is actually a rotten egg. Congratulations to the person who guessed correctly – great insight from such a little clue!

As you can see, there are new 3D models for all food items. More info about new survival stuff coming soon.

Multiple players

The biggest feature of 2.1 will no doubt be ability to have multiple players in the game. I will stress this again – this is not yet a true network multiplayer, but split screen multiplayer on a single device.

Network multiplayer would be ideal and is obviously a long awaited feature, but make no mistake, split screen might at times be just as good if not better. The advantage is that you are right next to each other, not in different rooms or even countries, and so cooperation comes very easily. We’ve played the split screen with my kids for many, many hours now, and it’s an absolute blast. At least once you get used to gamepad controls :-)

Anyway, here’s some UI screenshots. That’s how you edit players in the game. You can add or remove players at any time:

That’s how you set up a player:

You also need to decide how you want your screen split up:

Plenty of different layouts are available:

When’s the release? My todo list for 2.1 is down to 11 items from 16 at the last post.

Next time I’ll show you some of the survival goodies coming up. Remember the funky thing you still cannot figure out? There’s a lot more to it now :-)

Default boys and girls

Meet the new default skins. There are 4 for males and 4 for females. Yes girls, you will be able to play as a girl from 2.1 onĀ :-)

Being a girl in Survivalcraft is not only about different looks. Girls are smaller than men, have less health and cause less damage when melee attacking. But they move faster and require significantly less food to stay alive.

Every skin has a different set of clothes they will spawn with. Some have better shoes but no hats, some have leather jerkins but no trousers, and so on.

My TODO list for 2.1 has 16 items remaining.

And I haven’t told you yet of survival enhancements coming in 2.1.
