Getting there

I think I have cleared all major obstacles on the way to the big new feature for 2.1. What remains are plenty of minor things and a tiny detail – actually making it playable! That means adding loads of new UI.

I have been working on this monster flat out for almost three weeks now. My list of “things to check when I’m finished” (i.e. whether they are not broken) contains pretty much everything that is in the game.

I hope I’ll be able to show something to you soon.

      Since 1.20 Survivalcraft isn’t in alpha anymore… Just look at the version number in main menu of the game…

    Kaalus, I think one of the new survival machanics that will be introduced in Alpha 2.1 will be poisoning according to an image on an older post on this upcoming update.

    Terrain and ui changes? Hmmm… This sounds big, but other than that I’m stumped. Maybe npc’s but I’m thinking it’s gonna be a bit more unique than that.

    New UI? It could’ve possibly been another new feature for Creative similar to Electricity and Furniture but since Kaalus said it was Survival based, it could be (wrt to new UI)

    1) Multiplayer (OMG yay if this happens, its so hard doing stuff alone in SC even though I’ve been playing for 3 years)

    2) Villagers (probably for trading, but seems unlikely as Kaalus said lots of new UI)

    Just my two cents on this post. If it’s Multiplayer, I cannot thank you enough Kaalus. I will ditch MC forever.

      Remember, this was a sidetrack from his original 2.1 plans. So, it may not be a survival mechanic.

        Hiiii, remember me from your wikia? (I contributed to quite some pages by updating the crafting recipe pictures)

        I doubt if this is a sidetrack. Multiplayer has never been more needed than now.

    If it is not multiplayer, NPCs or generated structures will it be?
    I was reviewing for hours the photo that I posted kaalus in the entry “2.1 progress” something tells me it has to do with something bellicose, but I do not know.

        I believe what was meant was clothing that lowers the probability of animals detecting you, as indicated by the rest of the line after the comma. A comma usually means there’s more, but, y’know, could be wrong.

    kaalus, I have an idea, if you are up to in the future when you aren’t so bogged down and can handle the requests, i would like to have the ability to “create” bedrock

    the fact that i can now build structures using bedrock is overwhelming me with hopes and dreams of building castles in survival mode made primarily of bedrock, as of right now, such an ambitious project would require roughly 64 game years to complete, one year being 65536 game days, so, 65536*64 = 4194304 game days

    depending on how you measure your game time, this varies greatly but this is the scale i chose to go by

    i won’t tell you how to go about your job but if you could make a way to produce bedrock, it would cut down on build time by around 75%

    these are all approximations but i found that in creative in a regular world it took an excessively long time to build a 5*5*5 hollow bedrock cube which i am basing most of my approximations on…

        two words, “survival mode”
        it is possible in survival mode, so i am basing my approximations on survival mode work ethic / build time equivalent
        i want it to be done in a real world, not the ugly thing that so many people use too often for their builds

          Really? Once you get the germanium for the right amount of pistons, its very easy to mine bedrock.

          Made a mine that produced 3 blocks every two minutes till the pistons had to be moved. Its was pretty therapeutic to use pistons in that way, and I did start building a room out of bedrock too.

          Not sure how you went about it, but you want a main lift, made of pull or strict pull pistons, and it should be able to reach to bedrock.

          Then you can use pistons to pull bedrock out of the ground, use more pistons to align with the lift, then lift it to the surface and transport to the build area.

    Since you’re messing with the UI can you make it so you can sneak while holding crossbows, bows, and muskets? As of now you have to switch items.

      He said like 6 month’s ago multiplayer will be in update 4.20 maybe check back next week, maybe towards the end of the week… Better chance it might be then, never know.

      As I see it, the contents are linked to a specific location and not as such to the chest itself. This might be one of the reasons a rewrite was needed.

    OK kaalus, I wanted to keep this quiet, but you need to know this. When playing on Windows using a mouse, throwing stones are way too powerful. I don’t even use any other weapons any more. You can shoot stones like a machinegun and quickly kill any animal. I even kill birds with it, just two stones and they die.

    This makes the game too easy.

    Has anybody else found this out? It is like the old bug with coal.

        It does not work well with bricks. It is slower and bricks cannot go through grass, which is silly. If an animal is in grass, the brick does not hit the animal. So, no.

    Let us brain storm a bit. What would need a new UI as well as affect almost everything in the game in a Big way?I’ll try a few things, please add:

    1. Of course multiplayer (but I think we might need to wait a bit more, but as you can see, number 1)
    2. Higher terrain or infinite terrain. This will also include a new terrain generation engine, with many options and maybe biomes that are bigger. Better seeds and structures as well.
    3. Vector graphics (probably not)
    4. Chests and other containers of data being movable (too small though)
    5. 64 bit blocks (way too soon)
    6. Higher resolution texture packs or bigger texture packs. Would be great, but not that Big a feature. Please give us 128×128 or even higher.
    7. Prebuilt shapes like with Lego worlds or the ability to reverse furniture to use as prebuilds. This would be a very nice feature, but does not need such a lot of work.
    8. Block erosion, giving smoother landscapes. This would need vector graphics and 64 bit blocks though.
    9. Transportation as I have proposed before using induction. Don’t think so though.

          Well a smaller world that loops around would be fine. 100,000 blocks by 100,000 blocks “island” would be plenty of world for anyone. I’d be fine with a super small world of only 1,000 by 1,000 blocks if I’m going to be the only one in it. I might mine the world dry at some point for giggles, but it would be fine with me.

    Kaalus also said that he mistakenly (my understanding) made assumptions about the game’s future that needed the rewrite. What could these assumptions be?

    1. The world will always be 128 blocks high
    2. Chests, memory chips, dispensers, ovens will never move from their place.
    3. Animals will always disappear when you are no longer near them, giving problems for multiplayer.
    4. That the world is one big island and real islands or other worlds off in the ocean is not possible. Currently this is true. All animals want to return to the mainland and this makes sea islands sterile. This will require a big rewrite and compatibility with old worlds well be an issue.

    Kaalus give us some more clues please!

      Animals DO spawn on islands, if they are large enough. Sadly most of the animals I’ve seen spawn on islands are hostile, making me think the game is pre-programed to kill the player, but while out on the ice on a frozen island I saw deer, moose, and once even thought I saw a buffalo. So one decent sized island “could” spawn in passive animals.

    This is probably going to be npc’s and friut trees. Friut trees will effect the way every map is rendered. And npc’s will create new ui for trading and conversing. Both could be the oversight he spoke about.

    here’s a suggestion, It took a while for you to add left hand controls, I notice when you aim a ranged weapon it follows the right hand control scheme, meaning when I put my finger on the center of screen(or reticle)the aiming sight is left of center when it should be right of center, now the current targeting scheme is proper for right handed people but for lefty like me it means my left handed finger has to go all the way to the right to aim at the center of screen, the aiming sight should be right of my left finger , not left of my left finger

          UI doesn’t necessarily mean the UI during game play, could very the User Interface for all the weather settings… potentially a lot of variables

        This is not a bug. There are white bulls in the game on purpose and they are very rare. You also get white tigers. I’ve never seen them myself though. Since the latest update, tigers have become rarer as such. I think the increase in diversity has caused this.
