Deleting furniture

I see there is some confusion on deleting of furniture designs. There isn’t a delete button or a trash anywhere in the UI.

furniture-ui

You cannot directly delete a furniture design.

Why is this so? It’s because there may be existing instances of this design somewhere in the world, or in your inventory, or in some chest far away.

If you deleted the design, they would all turn into some other random type of furniture, or even make the game crash (due to the way furniture is implemented internally). We don’t want to do that.

So how do you get rid of a design you don’t want?

Move it to Uncategorized set. As soon as the game detects there are no more instances of this furniture used anywhere else, it will delete it automatically.

I know this is not 100% intuitive, but it was the best I could come up at the time. Maybe there should be a delete button that would tell you “Cannot delete because there are N instances of this design used in the world” instead? Would that be any better?

What about “would you like to delete this instance and this instance from the world?”

Yes, that would be better. And perhaps, like that one fellow said “and instances from the world”.

Yeah, it needs to be a little bit more intuitive. Maybe go a step further and have deleted items moved into a hidden uncategorized folder that works the same as the current one. Once all instances are gone it behaves the same as now. However, instances of deleted items in that folder in the world would be highlighted in some way for ease of finding and manual deletion.

I have the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the sounds (Example: When I pick or place an item, when pushing UI buttons) are very weird. On my tablet they’re normal

I created a “Trash” folder for these

I like the idea of counting how many item counts are being used.

It would be a better option as mentioned, especially for newcomers.

How about a Delete button, that moves it to “Uncategorized” or maybe a new category (renamed?) called “Pending Delete”. Then Users get the nice feeling of “oh, I deleted that” and it still works the same behind the scenes as moving to “Uncategorized”.

Thanks, Kaalus. That helps a lot! Even if I am two days late, I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas, and a happy new year. Bye!

You can make a button “Remove furniture from the world, which is in this group”.
