Windows and Amazon available too

Windows Phone, Windows Store and Amazon have Survivalcraft 2 too:

AmazonAppStore

WindowsStoreBadge

WindowsPhoneStore

I think only Windows 10 users may need to wait a few more hours before they can download it. I will update the links in the sidebar as they start working.

The price will stay $1.99 on all platforms for a short period of time yet before it goes back up to $3.99.

Btw. Do you thing it was a good idea to make buttons control (as opposed to pads) default?Personally I prefer pads, but I think most people are used to buttons. Some complain as they do not realize you can change them in Settings/Controls.

I think it should be buttons, but without the “WASD” keys on it, and just make the “WASD” on the buttons an option.

Kaalus will survivalcraft demo will be stuck in 1.29?

    • Posted December 15, 2016 at 15:50 | Permalink | Reply

I think he must leave 1.29, since 1.29 will be around a while longer. Remember people might still want to reinstall their SC if they are not buying SC 2. Survivalcraft 2 must have its own demo. Please just do one thing and make the demo a bit more worth it. The time limit is so frustrating that you cannot properly test the game. Rather disable certain features, like saving your worlds and uploading content. This is enough incentive not to just keep the Demo. The rating of the Demo needs to be high as well otherwise it will badly affect sales of SC2. With a new Demo 2 App, new ratings can give it a much better rating than SC Demo. Also fix SC demo as well concerning limits.

I recommend to keep SC 1.29 alive and bring its price down to 99c or something like that. Also rename it to Survivalcraft 1 and highlight the fact that there is a version 2 out. Also fix bugs on it, making it ver 1.30. It is an APP in its own right. Community content is the only place that might be complicated as new worlds will not properly work on SC 1. That needs to be done anyway, because there are current SC 1 users that are not going to buy the new version and you cannot just drop support on them.

      Anybody agree?

      • Posted December 15, 2016 at 22:34 | Permalink | Reply

Completely disagree with everything, No offense just my opinion. Kaalus knows what he’s doing just let him be. Everyone should just buy the Survivalcraft 2 app since its just updating content. It will solve the whole issues of community content. I think the first version of Survivalcraft should be left alone since it shouldn’t be used anymore in the first place, just get Survivalcraft 2. The app is not even that expensive, if tou can afford a bag of chips and a soda than you can definitely afford the game. Although I understand those who don’t have a credit card or any card to buy the game with, I don’t know how to help you there honestly, sorry. Other than that, just buy the game, problem solved, Survivalcraft first version is not necessary anymore.

I personally thing that when starting the game the first time, they shoukd have an option about choosing the pads or buttons, especially since the pads ARE easier, much much easier in fact,

  15. Posted December 15, 2016 at 15:37 | Permalink | Reply

I’d say buttons as default because everyone usually comes from Minecraft and I remember seeing videos all the time of people trying Survivalcraft for the first time, but they’d constantly complain about the controls being awful. So I say give the option as soon as it starts or make buttons default.

    • Posted December 15, 2016 at 15:39 | Permalink | Reply

Plus when they get better if they want to change to the pad by then they’ll probably know you can.

  16. Posted December 15, 2016 at 15:40 | Permalink | Reply

Pads are a lot better, but I have read some of the reviews where they bash SC because it is not the same as MC’s controls, which I think is a lot worse.

I think it is a good idea to keep it at buttons for those people who are a little less fortunate in the neuron department to go into settings.

Btw. Could you made wood blocks useable for making furniture. Wood is a common construction material, and frankly we have almost zero things we can use for brown except wood planks. But maybe I missed something, only been on 2.0 for little more than half a day.

BTW it looks great so far. Already made a fully functional archery range with flags that pop up on hits, long lasting campfire pits for a campsite, tents with far smoother sides using 8x8x8 blocker bisected accross the diagonal, and stadium bleachers.

Buttons, I have tried the touch pad idea but prefer buttons – probably us ‘older’ gamers from the late 80’s / 90’s are more used to buttons! for example I have a touch screen laptop with awesome touchpad – BUT i ALWAYS take my laser mouse with me – even for work purposes. so buttons and physical mouse – even when gaming survivalcraft on the laptop.

  23. Posted December 15, 2016 at 16:02 | Permalink | Reply

I do not care which is default, but I’m glad that there is a wasd pad option, as I use a key mapper to play it with a keyboard :) It would be still cooler if there way native keyboard (WASD and space would be enough) support – Tincore is a bugger to set up these days ;)

I don’t nessasarily think SC1 should be free, but I agree on a name change to something like “Survival Craft Lite” at a price point of $0.99 and it should mention first thing in the description there is a 2.0 version with significant additions. And I would say axe the “Day One” and provide a time limited, feature restricted version of SC2. And the time limit should be significantly long enough to get people hooked,

    • Posted December 15, 2016 at 20:58 | Permalink | Reply

Old worlds are loaded just the same as always. A world I have been making for 4 years perfectly imported and plays flawlessly on SC2. The only exclusion for old worlds is that full stats are not kept (which I personally think should be changed so at least stats since upgrade are kept). But otherwise you can’t even tell the difference importing old worlds to SC2.

Make sure you are saving to Dropbox in SC1. Go to the single player worlds screen. Select the world you want to save to Dropbox. Tap the […] button in the lower right corner. Select upload at the bottom. You might have to go through a Dropbox setup if you haven’t already got this setup. I’d walk you through that but I already removed SC1 so I have no frame of reference to guide you.

Anyway, once saved go into SC2. Select “content” on main screen. Select “private”. Again you may have to setup Dropbox here too. Once Dropbox is setup you should get a listing of the worlds you have saved there. Select the world you want and tap download at the bottom. Once downloaded go back to the main worlds screen under single player and it should appear. And yes your textures and skins for that world will come over too. Select and have fun.

I was taken aback by the buttons. I don’t like them and changed it. However I think this change might actually help you retain customers. When I transitioned from Minecraft PE to Survivalcraft, I almost quit and went back to PE simply because the controls were hard to get used to. Then I finally got used to them and preferred them. Having the buttons could definitely help with those first time players and make them more likely to come back and play it again.

There is no real mods per say, modding would require illegally distribution of parts of SC2/sc’s apk, along with illegally modifying it and it would then only be available on Android. Despite this people have made modifications to the apk and released it privately around the web, but they are mostly changing the playermodel into something like bread or adding a singular T-Rex to the game, sorry :(

I think we can all agree pads are the better option, but the main reason buttons control is there in the first place is to let new players get used to the game, It might be best to have a setup screen on first installation giving players recommended settings and a brief tutorial.

The tutorial wouldn’t go super in depth, just direct you at the different settings, show you the help and recipedia options, and show you how the content works

  61. Posted December 16, 2016 at 05:04 | Permalink | Reply

Guys, please read what Kaalus asked. He is not asking which option is the best. He is asking which is best to be default. The reason is that many MC users find it difficult to get used to pads. The buttons help these guys not leave because they cannot use the pads. Many kids just leave the game when they struggle with the controls. I prefer pads, but think it’s good to make buttons the default.

Kaalus – I have a suggestion that relates to both items from this post. Now that more people are playing the game on laptops and/desktops is there any possibility of customizing the keys used for control and the functions of the mouse buttons. The gameplay is much more simple with a touch device – but computers offer most people better graphics options and a faster game. The problem is unless you have a computer/tablet combo machine the controls for a computer are cumbersome. Right click to place blocks, no easy way to get to your quick items (other than touch), and for people who use the mouse left handed the most cement keys are awkward. I have no idea if this is easy or difficult, and maybe I am the only one who has this issue – but hopefully it is something you can incorporate in the future.
    Thank you

To turn your “head” just to place the next block or break blocks, make me sea sick. Is there maybe a way to freeze the screen and then the mouse acts like the screen of a phone, so that you can build without “turning your head.” This would help a lot. Maybe in that mode the arrow keys can take over that function. It would help me a lot.
