Sea Level?

I realized that there is no reason I only allow changing global temperature and humidity in creative. So, in the next version you can change it in Challenging modes too.

But that’s not all, have a look at that:

Yes, you can also change global sea level!

Setting it to +16 is pretty extreme. There’s sometimes no land in sight when you spawn. And as you well know, the lonely guy is not a great swimmer. How are you supposed not to drown?  What about the sharks?

Well, I made a little tweak. If you spawn in water, you at least get a free boat :-) And it has 50% more strength than in 1.29.

Nice and cosy.

To really test yourselves, how about setting temperature to -16 and sea level to +16? You will end up in the ocean all right, but it’s a frozen ocean. So no boat for the poor castaway. If you survive the first day in that, hats off!

I tried, and was promptly eaten by a polar bear. On the second try I froze to death in minutes. On the third try, I frantically reached an island, with screen almost totally frozen over and 3/4 of health gone through frostbite, and (clever, clever) made myself a dugout!

Temperature simulation in Survivalcraft is pretty good. It’s fairly warm in the dugout if it’s small and you seal it. You can survive and even unfreeze your screen a little, wearing just old shirt and trousers. But you can only jump out into the open for a minute, or you’ll freeze in -16 environment.

So I was trying to get hold of some fur for clothing and wood to make weapons and a crafting table, all in one minute bursts, when a tiger got me. Bad luck!

Back to work!

I am sure you’ll fare better. Or maybe you won’t. For extra difficulty set humidity to -16 too, and game mode to Cruel. Don’t forget to record it, so that you can post replay on YouTube as a proof. Otherwise no one will believe you :-)

Maybe one is the magnetic platform and the other two are the induction units. Maybe the one push and pul directly from it, while the other sideways. Just thinking…

As much as I want to believe the pistons are induction based, I’m not sure the video gives us reason to think that. It would not be too hard for the pistons to have been sitting one on top of the other. After all, the tower sat on quite a plinth. As for the fact that there were seven steps, maybe a miscount of some kind? The appearance closely matches MC pistons, after all.

    Small theory about the Pistons

Normal Piston = Similar to MC’s Piston
Iron Nailed Piston = Similar to MC’s Sticky Piston
Copper Nailed Piston = Quite similar to Sticky piston too, but eventually gives an electronic signal to the block attached to the Piston, of course only to blocks that can interact with Electricity like Dispensers or other Piston themselves

I think, wooden piston only pushes (like Minecraft piston), piston with copper pushes and and pulls at one block (like Minecraft sticky piston) and use digital signal (0-7 and 8-F) and piston with iron pushes and pulls at 8 blocks and use analog signal (8 for 1 block, 9 for 2 blocks and etc)

Another Bug on iOS version only: No Stars at night

Please add a slider for Mountain nights as well as valley depth, which I suppose you could get by lowering sea level and increasing mountain heights. With deeper valleys, you should be able to have deeper oceans without increasing sea level.

I would really love higher and steeper mountains .maybe there could be a slider for steepness as well or rather wavelength in a manner of speaking.

And please give an option to disable the damaging lighting effects, especially for creative mode. Also give an option for disabling werewolves, it is unrealistic.

        OK my rant is over.

        • Posted December 6, 2016 at 21:00 | Permalink

Disabling werewolves would make the game easier. Also, they are not the only thing that is unrealistic: the world IRL isn’t made of metre cubes. The game can never be 100% realistic. Maybe give a disable option for creative mode. The lightening damage effects in creative mode could be harmful to some builds. An option here would definitely be useful. Also, I don’t thing AI path-finding should be optional as not having that also makes the game easier.

        • Posted December 7, 2016 at 06:05 | Permalink

The blocks in the game cannot be changed and is intrinsic part of the game, werewolves are not. They can be changed and do not need to be there. If he wants the wolves to become more dangerous twice time of the month, that is OK, but keep it realistic. Disabling them in creative does not solve the problem. Challenging needs to be realistic too, not just creative.

        • Posted December 6, 2016 at 22:31 | Permalink

You can just turn off weather effects in creative can’t you?

        • Posted December 7, 2016 at 06:08 | Permalink

That is like cutting of your foot because your shoe has a hole in it. I want the weather and even the lightning, just the damage must be able to be cancelled in creative.

        • Posted December 7, 2016 at 16:39 | Permalink

True, true destructive lightning has screwed me up on creative cause I wanted to leave weather on and paid the price…and I don’t think werewolves should be done away with permanently, but there should be an option like you said. I just think its unrealistic that werewolves give you diamonds…kind of a random drop but hey its useful to me…

        Using windows, so no.

But basically I’ve been playing for years, and I’m pretty good at killing things like polar bears, so I like to challenge myself by making a super cold world and trying to survive.

Its still really hard, especially in cruel, but once you get fur clothes its just devolves into normal SC stuff. One thing is that you cant make a bow, so hunting birds is also harder, and cotton wont spawn, so you cannot farm for cotton to make string either.

Since you have obtusely addressed terrain generation in this post, could you possibly look at giving us the ability to alter the size of ‘biomes’? Perhaps a ‘sensitivity’ or ‘variability’ adjustment to the temp/humid variables? Many cruel and challenging players would like to have it MORE challenging to pass through a frozen area for instance, and most creative users want a larger consistent environment for their builds.

“For extra difficulty set humidity to -16 too, and game mode to Cruel.”
I took a look at the landscape of -16 humidity and -16 temp. It’s an icy wasteland without any trees whatsoever. Survival is possible though because the many grave structures /might/ supply you with sticks or wood. If the water level was +16, you could only survive a few days at most until your starter clothes break and you freeze to death (even in a ‘dugout’). I’d recommend that you can destroy your boat and receive 4 wooden planks so that the player can at least make a crafting table to branch off to clothing, etc.

    • Posted December 7, 2016 at 00:26 | Permalink | Reply

You can’t use the graveyard structures on +16 water because they rest underneath 16 blocks of water that’d freeze you instantly. Grave structures do not spawn on mountains, where you would spawn on +16.
