Underground

1.29 brings improvements underground as well. With devices becoming faster and faster, I can tweak the numbers and make the engine generate more stuff without having 90% of the users complaining about low framerates.

Here come massive magma chambers:

UndergroundMagma.jpg

This chamber is huge and more than 20 blocks deep, reaching maybe all the way to the bedrock.

All in all, about 15x as much magma than in 1.28. No longer is it safe to blindly dig ahead.

2x longer caves, with wider corridors and more branchings:

I am going to complain (I have an Iphone 4). You should add an option for less verbose terrain generation.

    • Posted January 9, 2016 at 18:56 | Permalink | Reply

“Verbose”? Do you mean too complex? Perhaps that would help make more recognizeable terrain landmarks.

Nice all we need now is goblins or other beasts to wreck havoc in the tunnels good luck to any want to be miners out there.

+1 i love the idea of some civilizations being in the game so maybe instead of villagers Kaalus should add goblins in the underground, with their kingdoms, mining for gold , working as a tribes. that would be cool and original.

You guys should begin to realise that SC is not like MC. SC is al about realism, not fairy tales.

      • Posted January 10, 2016 at 13:39 | Permalink | Reply

SC has Werewolves, and not all islands are isolated, we need civilization, like tribes and villagers.
        Please Kaalus, add them.

        • Posted January 10, 2016 at 14:09 | Permalink

And some of us are not very impressed by the werewolves. And also, that is the only weird creature.

Kaalus, you are wonderful. btw, is it possible for me to be killed by magma in creative mode? If you answer, I think I’ll faint. :-)

    • Posted January 10, 2016 at 11:54 | Permalink | Reply

I’ll help you not to faint. Magma does not kill you and has not killed in the past. Why would it kill now in creative. The only things that kill you in creative as I have it, is going to high, a tree growing through you or a trap door snapping close on you.

greetings Kaalus, i love your work, never stops amazing. I was thinking about how convinient flashlights (or maybe headflashlight) would be when in caves or outside during night time. Just suggestion

That’s be nice. The design would be like a Button Followed by a Semiconductor, then a light bulb surrounded by Iron, or something.

    YAY ADVENTUREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!

  24. Posted January 9, 2016 at 19:28 | Permalink | Reply

Can we please have more creative options and tools, for example, more customisable options when creating a world. Be able to create much larger islands and adjust sea level / average land level without only using stupid flat terrain option. And faster / better creative tool options for building ( plenty of ideas in forum ) saves me going on and on..

After all creative mode players make a lot of worlds for survival players. So please help make our job easyer and make an update about this. So many players have quit great worlds because the work load becomes to boring and tedious. We need to speed up creative building to make it more enjoyable and keep the interest in a world a player is building alive.

You know it makes sence Kaalus.

Kaalus has changed most of the terrain. he has changed the sky ( bigger sunset) , he has changed the ground (spruces jungle) , and he even has changed the underground (deeper mine). I wonder, will he changed the ocean? The ocean ground is too “lonely” maybe he can add coral or underwater plant, that will be soooo nice. And anyway,i like the flashlight idea,or a hand torch, because the caves are way much wider…and longer…and scarier….

      1. he said that the bigger sunset was cropped on the dispenser post, 2. there are no proper jungles, 3. there are no mines, only caves.

  28. Posted January 9, 2016 at 21:09 | Permalink | Reply

But what does this mean for our current worlds? With the edited chunks having minor caves and the new chunks being completely different as they are generated, I don’t think 1.28 worlds upgrading to 1.29 is a good idea.

There NEEDS to be a toggle for this, and worlds being upgraded from 1.28 and below the toggle will automatically be off. That is my only compromise.

No, I do not hate the idea, I just don’t want to lose the maps I’ve been working on throughout many versions to be lost.

The new trees also threaten these old maps.

@Kaalus, I’m really hoping for a reply on this one, I just don’t see how it’d go well.

    • Posted January 10, 2016 at 16:25 | Permalink | Reply

There is no way of it ‘ruining’ existing world’s. Only unexplored chunks will use the new world gen, so unless you don’t like the new terrain (which is fair enough I guess).

You will not ‘lose the maps’ you have been working on.

Also, how can new tree types threaten existing chunks?

      Regards,

      CC

      • Posted January 10, 2016 at 20:46 | Permalink | Reply

By your argument, you are saying that [for ex.] the ground that happens to be 20 blocks higher in the new gen than in the old gen’s ground would be perfectly fine. Same goes for trees, you are basically saying that if some random leaves happen to be floating or some cut off trees surround your edited chunks that would be normal. And old gen caves colliding with new gen caves? That would be HORRIBLE! My tiny little caverns could be flooded with lava, my tiny paths could be openings to gigantic rooms, and my hallways could be sideswiped by nothing but lava. How is this not a problem?

Great! When playing in cruel mode, staying underground was my primary easy way of staying alive and establishing safe passage ways… This would definitely up the challenge in surviving!!! Next you should add new underground animals like moles, snakes, and ants that will move/burrow and make new holes underground and attack you… So those dirt passages would need reenforcements to be safe. I also think it would be awesome if you added in occasional cave-ins for unsupported large areas, and methane leaks that build up underground that would ignite with placed torches! You’d have to mine with a methane meter or a new canary bird in a stick cage to do so safely. Methane could be eventually harvested and combined with pipes that would be used with items line gas stoves, lights, explosives… Just imagine the challenge when mining and then being told the tired messages… are you really or are you about to DIE!!!
