Nice to see even though it was expected. How are you going to keep all these in the inventory? There should be only one LED in inventory otherwise it will be a nightmare. Another way is to select the colour when you choose the LED. The same goes for other colour options.

The best would be though to have a block selector as mentioned.

As someone who likes quantum mechanics, the blue LEDs made me squeal a bit… Three physicists won a Nobel Prize for making the Blue LED (which, given the way semiconductors work in terms of LEDs, with interacting carriers on both the conduction and valence bands of semi conductors and the way they interact to emit photons, is pretty impressive). Enough physics gobbledegook though, MERRY FREAKING CHRISTMAS!!!!

Kaalus…. I know that this is going to sound useless but please consider it….. Can we have smaller mem banks that can only hold 16 numbers/letters…. With no clock input ….. Just 4 lines of 4 digit code…. To would be a life saver….. You may be asking….. How on earth is it going to translate 16 voltages into 4 possible voltages to find what digit to read… Well that’s simple… The first 2 voltages correspond to the first of the four lines of code…. And so on and so on… This would make it much simpler to do simple electronics that only require 16 total digits but heads them in the 4 by 4. Format simaler to the 16 by 16 format of the existing mem banks…

    • Posted December 24, 2015 at 18:44 | Permalink | Reply

Just only use one input and you access only the first line. Or is you use the second input you would access the first digit of each line.

We’re gonna end up with 512 colors… 32 bits, 16 colors in games. 32 shades of each of those colors. 32×16=512. I’m counting the shades of colors already in the game as a color. There will be a color wheel in creative, when you get a paint bucket, you’ll have the option to pick a color from a wheel of colors, then there shades. Each color with shade will have a number so you can remember it, or write it down so you don’t mismatch colors. This will allow for some pretty intricate art. My odd ball guess, but to use 32 bits all at once requires a lot. And I think this might be it some how. Late night Christmas eve thoughts.

    • Posted December 25, 2015 at 03:20 | Permalink | Reply

Might want to check that math it takes all I think 16 bits to make all colors of paint not one bit for each set of 16 colors

    • Posted December 25, 2015 at 05:25 | Permalink | Reply

Since we have doubled the number of bits I think that means we square the number of block variants. This would mean 256 potential paint colours, or 16 on stairs.

    • Posted December 25, 2015 at 07:47 | Permalink | Reply

I am quite sure that Kaalus is not going to use all the bits just for colours, do you? I think we might get 16 (4 bits) colours.

      • Posted December 25, 2015 at 07:52 | Permalink | Reply

4×6 bits = 24 bits. Even this is too much. Maybe 3 bits wil be ok, 8 colours. That will be 3×6 (six sides) 18 bits. Eight cookies will be a great improvement even, but 16 will be better. How many colours Kaalus? Please let us know, also if sides can have separate colours.

        • Posted December 25, 2015 at 08:02 | Permalink

I have a feeling that Kaalus might sacrifice 6 colours per block to have more colours. Which would you prefer, 16 colours for each side, or 65K colours for all sides? Difficult decision.

        • Posted December 25, 2015 at 08:17 | Permalink

I count 12 different colours on the tree, so maybe it will be 16 colours.

The reason for that was that you cannot mix two blocks. With water it would have been a mix of the water block and say the stairs block. With 32 bit he might be able to use one bit to include water and maybe even sand (then 2 bits). 32 bits sounds like a lot, but you can easily run out of bits. This is a good idea though.

Kaalus said that the 4 bits are for extra data. Now I understand a bit more. I was understanding that the new 32 bits must contain all the data. No, this must only contain the extra data, like colours and rotation already done by the 4 bits. So the 28 bits can all contain new data. That makes a big difference. There can be more than 16 colours, maybe 16 bit colours (65535 + black)

Does block have memory or extra capabilities (like dispenser, memory, chest or workbench): 0 or 1 (1 bit) – this is already done so I won’t count it

The rest of the 28 can be:

    1. block direction or rotation: 3 bits (maybe just an extra 2 because it has been done already)
    2. block colour: 16 bits
    3. block slope or angle 1 bit
    4. Can block flow like water or sand: 2 bits (water keeps on flowing. You can have two types of sand also, sand that flows and sand that just falls Just an extra bit for sand(s).
    5. Block animation: don’t have a clue how to do this in bits. How does the torches animation work? Lets take 1 extra bit for vector.
    6. Can block float (maybe a good option for future use) 1 bit
    7. Is there water or sand in a block, like water in stairs. 2 bits 0,1 or 2.

This brings us to 24 bits with 4 bits to spare. Kaalus can use it for more colours or rather keep it for future use like arcs and other vector options, maybe smoke animation. Just a few thoughts. I must say the game will be so great with 65K colours. Just give us an option to colour sand as well, even leaves(?), wood, rock, orr etc. Bits will also be needed for rail or other transport blocks. Please also make lights to be changed with colour. 2 bits can be used for cracks as well.

You got that totally wrong. The 32 bits do have to store everything the old 16 bits had to store. That means you only have 20 bits for extra data.
4., 5. and 6. are unnecessary. Already included in the standard block information.
      That leaves 20 bits.

      • Posted December 26, 2015 at 15:33 | Permalink | Reply

You are right. I’ve got it wrong. I don’t know how I’ve missed it. That makes the idea of colouring different sides impossible, there are not enough bits. Colours might be 4 or 8 bit (16 or 256). On 4, there should be one bit to say it is water. I added one more but for Sands. On num. 5, I added 1 bit for vector graphics. Current animation is just bitmap. Not sure about 6. That might be true for items that are not placed. There is data though that makes stairs etc. dislodge when in water. I’m not sure if that should be counted as floatable.

      • Posted December 26, 2015 at 15:35 | Permalink | Reply

And remember that the four bits you mention is already used up, so it is only 16 bits extra from what it was.

Also, Kaalus, can I have some insight on how the new block’s structure will be?

Currently 8 bits are used to tell us what block it is, and the other 8 bits are used for specific data. You will be adding 2 more bytes to that somewhere.

I’m guessing it’d just be two more BlockData’s, like:
      byte BlockType;
byte BlockData1; (The current one we have)
      byte BlockData2;
      byte BlockData3;

      • Posted December 26, 2015 at 17:32 | Permalink | Reply

Don’t look down on others, even if might not know a lot. People here are trying to figure out Kaalus’ riddle and sometimes make way out remarks. Not all have all the information, but I bet you quite many know quite a lot about bits and bytes.

    • Posted December 25, 2015 at 21:06 | Permalink | Reply

Bits are rows of pixels…32 by 32 means 32 pixels up, and 32 pixels sideways.

      • Posted December 25, 2015 at 23:01 | Permalink | Reply

No dude, that is definitely not what a bit is. Like I said, most of the people here have not even a clue what a pixel is, and you are one of those people. A bit is part of a binary number (i.e. the one’s and zero’s that a computer reads). For example, in this binary number, 01100101, there are 8 bits. 8 bits make one byte.

In SurvivalCraft, these bits can store settings on each block. The current block structure takes 2 bytes, aka 16 bits. The new structure will take 4 bytes, aka 32 bits. 8 of those bits are to determine what kind of block is used. The other 8 bits (currently, but in 1.29 it will be a grand 24) are used to store block-specific settings.

OK this may be wrong as I have never programed a game before but if you wanted to make placed block bouncy you would nead a way to make a placed block an entity like an animal… This has many issues…. Size causes lag once you make a massive destroyer the size makes it extremely difficult for the game to keep up… Possible bugs.. If the game losses track of any single block it could end up completely destroyed With blocks seemingly floating alongside the boat in air and would crash the game…. Another problem… Say it was an iron destroyer…. Iron would be considered a block with no bouncy…. It will sink…. To fix this you nead to program the game so that it calculates the volume of the inside of the boat… Then it needs to take this and find wait…. Calculate volume and wait … Then find how far the boat will sink into the water before it finds an equilibrium…. Problem….? When it sinks into the water the boat “being an entity” will fill with water…. How do you fix this problem…? Well to do this I believe you will nead to make the ocean itself an entity to move out of the way so you don’t droun when the boat seems to fill with water…. HUGE problem… The entire OCEAN becoming an entity combine with the size of the boat being an entity combine with the huge amounts of different things being calculated would overpower the games/phones ability to process this information and eventually crash the game …… I can think of several other things but it is not necessary….. It is a programers nightmare……

        – ability to “lock” electrics from being edited/moved/destroyed… Can’t tell you how often im crafting and accidentally break something… Oh, for both creative and adventure mode.

        – also ability to hide electrics from view, or toggle them invisible… Sometimes they’re just unsightly and you don’t want to see them.

Can you add option to disable weather effects in adventure mode????? (lightning usually destroys trees etc)

I’m longing for this as well, but just for the lightning and for all modes. I hate this. It is actually unrealistic. How often in real life is your house destroyed by lightning?

Actually, would like to have option to disable lightning in challenging-mode, but i tink its meant to be part of survival experience. Thats why i only asked about adventure-mode

After some research in an old world I have come to the conclusion that the time whether swatches on or off is actually written into the game… There will always be a rain on the first day and a day or two later it will do it again and if I had enuff patience I would without a doubt be able to make a Survivalcraft calendar to predict with perfect precision at what time a day rain, Snow, or dessert thunderstorm will occur or end and have it written into a memory bank hooked up to a real Time clock… Whether is not random as you would think and that is why I think he has not added an option to change whether in game or set whether to a constant rain for adventure maps

Really? And I have noticed it usually rains the first night….it happened when 1.26 came out to me….I lost my default clothes the first night…:-(

Yup… If you play long enough you notice that the weather always seems to have the same very predictable schedule…. Today’s forecast…. The same a last times……. :-)

If you made the Environment “Static” instead of “Living” the lightnings don’t destroy anything…

Kaalus, Could you make it that spawn eggs work in adventure mode?/I’m creating a gladiator arena and it would be awesome to use the new dispenser to spawn animals for my battles. Thanks!

It does work. You must just load the dispenser with eggs and shoot them.

I don’t think so. I have a mac and it does’t have Survivalcraft in the stores.
