Shooting video

As promised, here’s the video for you:

I worked hard on the shooting effect, it feels powerful. There’s noise and loads of smoke. There’s recoil and ricochet sounds if bullets strike something hard.

At the same time I increased speed of arrows and bolts, I think originally I made them a little too slow.

    Hi Kaalus, I am AuraSphere999999. I am a big fan of SurvivalCraft. I played since the 1.21 update. The Diamond Edge Machete, Diamond Edge Axe, and Diamond Tip Spear have the same attack power as the Iron Machete, Iron Axe, and Iron Spear. Diamond Edge Axe has the same hacking power as the Iron Axe. The Diamond Tip Pickaxe has the same quarry power as the Iron Pickaxe. The Diamond Edge Shovel has the same shoveling power as the Iron Shovel. These tools’/weapons’ Attack Power/Quarry Power/Shovel Power/Hacking Power MUST be corrected by the next update.

    Here are correct Weapon Powers:

    Diamond Tip Spear: 9

    Diamond Edge Machete: 10

    Diamond Edge Axe: 11

    Diamond Edge Shovel Shovel MUST have a Shovel Power of 3.5

    Diamond Edge Axe MUST have Hack Power of 9

    Diamond Tip Pickaxe MUST have a Quarry Power of 10.

    Recommended Attack Powers:

    Wooden Spear (thrown): 4

    Stone Spear (thrown): 7

    Iron Spear (thrown): 9

    Diamond Tip Spear (thrown): 15

    Spears should deal more damage when thrown, due to their massive spearheads (this is just RECOMMENDED, NOT REQUIRED).

    These errors were in the game since the 1.22 update. Kaalus, PLEASE FIX THESE IN 1.28! Thanks!

    Kaalus, is there a 50% chance of a keg launching instead of instantly exploding? I want to fire them out of a cannon but I can’t get more than 50% of the kegs to fire

      Even if that was added (which I doubt), I don’t think it would be worth the cost to maintain a machine gun. You’d have to consistently clean it and keep the operating system oiled. You’d have to produce factory-scale quantities of spitzer ammunition as well as the belts or magazines to feed the weapon. Furthermore you’d have to have a method of moving the whole thing around using only one person. But that aside, it isn’t happening anyway, as automatic weapons (judging by the time period this game most likely takes place in) don’t exist yet.

    We need more biomes seeing that there is just a snow biome and a field biome, it gets boring we need something like underwater plant life (A reason for us to actually risk the swim in SC), or naturally spawning abandoned windmills with fields of rye or something, also there needs to be a goal in the game unless it gradually gets boring, and my favorite idea is… more forest life, in my area, the forest has bushes and it is just full of random paths and plant, in SC maybe he should implement that.

      This all sounds really nice, but I would caution that the game must be realistic and sometimes having so many dangers, is not realistic. For instance, the piranhas attacking a boat or werewolves. I do not like these elements. Keep it realistic, otherwise it becomes like Minecraft. Did I just say that?

    This is really great and I mean it, but without multiplayer it does not bring enough for many. I know it is a lot to ask and what you have created is really great, so I really do not want to bash you for one second. I do not have a clue how difficult it must be to do this. Do not try to go to big, WiFi is OK, we do not need cloud multiplayer.

    I want for next time a double barrel shot gun same look just a bit fatter and two barrels instead of just one. This would only be able to shoot buck shot but with the same straignth as the single ball would for the musket except for the shot gun there would be 8 balls more spread and best of all 2 shots instead of one this would be great what do you think kaalus? What’s your opinion on this idea

          Nice… though it makes me seem acward in how I do things it makes me very unique in many ways that few other people can really experience it has actually helped me get the highest score on a test called the nwea in caro high school history so it may do some harm but at the same time it gives me an advantage over others in a way it has inspired me to do computer programming and video game design for my career choice…. With the help of Kaalus the best game designer of all time

          See I want to… But sadly I have such little training I couldn’t make a game if I wanted to… The only game I have ever made was many years ago in a school called arora hills middle school and it was to make a froger remake with a program that did not really give you real coding experience instead it only let me input a specific command like up makes you hop. And a simple reaction like trucks explode and scream when you touch them an that was years ago. I have seen the codes for sc but its a hole library of commands and punctuation I am not familiar with…. Yes I will get into programing but I don’t have a chance until next year in 11th grade. But the wait will be well worth it kind of like this update was worth the wait my time to make the sandbox game of my dreams will come but in the meantime I have to wait. ;-)

          Honestly I have no interest in fantasy games like kaalus I want to make the most realistic game possible just the name makes my skin crawl…. Legends of fantacy……. If I made a game like this one it would be named something more like…. Crafty cube or cubey Craft. :-)

          Not only that but I want to be original….. Minecraft is fantasy…. Survivalcraft is realistic…….. crafty cube well…. New…. Not a clone more like all the other people make …. The theme of the game would be set toward exploration of a blocky universe were you start out on earth in an olden day earth… As you play the word around you will come to life with city’s that grow using only what the natives have access to… The only way into space would be to build a big blocky rocket to get you there… This is more of a Brain Storm than an exact plan for the game….. just by the sound of it it would require Codeing never before thought of….. And a lot of it….. Just to make the rocket you nead some way of converting your exact build into an independent object subject to forces like gravity magnetism pressure damage and more….. Not only that but this needs to work without lag…. Bug fixes that nobody has ever done….. Calculations that may be impossible for phones to do in the speed that I would want this would be tons of work…… But the hardest part of it all…. Nobody has ever put all this in a block based game before….. One day I will be working on this find of Codeing but not till I get training for it…… ;-)

          The game is set in 70 AD. I am trying to make the foundation of it as realistic as possible, but also have fantasy elements such as goblins and magic. However I want to make them seem as realistic as possible, goblins using neurotoxin and magic, well I haven’t figured magic out yet.

The gun looks awesome, watched the video and I have to say that I immediately felt like playing challenging mode with a gun :D haven’t really even turned the game on for months so this is exactly what I needed to get back into the SC spirit, just in time for Xmas holidays wooo sorry kids dad’s busy this summer lol.

    Glad to see u back, Kaalus. We all need a break from time to time. It’s all too easy to get burnt out from things…even if it’s something you are passionate about. Good job on the gun. I always thought it would be too OP……but now that I see it in action it looks like it’ll be a nice addition. What about a bird trap that could be set on the ground. Use the seeds to draw the bird in. That would be a cool “survival” feature for this game. Anyway…..glad to see you back working on Survivalcraft!!!

    Please, just please, add some generated structures like some abandoned houses. So that it would give some goal to venture out into the dangerous outside world. Maybe more structures with traps. Also, add more pressure plate types because I am a fan of marbles because they are beautiful, quite expensive, but still beautiful but if attached with pressure plates, it looks awful. So maybe add this things that I am suggesting,

    I like this addition as it isn’t horribly overpowered like some of the suggestions on the forums, but while I watched the video I spotted a little mistake in the mechanics.

    Rain wets the gunpowder and makes it unusable until it dries. :D That was a big pain back then.

    Therefore, I suggest adding a factor which checks if the player is dry; if the player is completely dry, he/she can shoot a gun. Otherwise, the gun may not be used until that time.

    Off-topic here, I love that SurvivalCraft is back on the move, but I truly hope that other game modes will be supported. What I mean by this is mainly Adventure-style maps. Most of the items in game are not suited to being used in ways different from their intended purpose/ innovative uses.

    For example, trapdoors are used as elevators, and spikes can bounce items around.

    However, there are very very few blocks that can interact with the world.

    If you don’t fully understand what I mean…

    Think about a SurvivalCraft chest. All of the items placed in the chest were put in there by the player.
    Think about the world. All the blocks placed down are there due to the terrain generation or the player.

    A really good Adventure Map can tell an entire story to those tired of creating their own, or pull players into your own world. It’s unique and interesting. However, the blocks we are given simply don’t interact with the world. The electricity feature is extremely advanced and can be hooked to lights and doors…but that’s it. They don’t modify the terrain (unless you connect them to kegs…), and that is limiting players from making innovative things.

    Another example of the limits to Adventure Maps was pointed out by another comment poster: “Kaalus, is there a 50% chance of a keg launching instead of instantly exploding? I want to fire them out of a cannon but I can’t get more than 50% of the kegs to fire”

    In summary, I thank you for making a wonderful game, and would love to see more additions that can be used in ways different from their intended purposes.

    …..I don’t like pointing out problems without providing a solution, but since I cannot actually create the solution, I will instead suggest ideas as solutions.

    – Moving blocks by use of electricity
    This is probably the second most suggested idea (after Multiplayer) and for good reason. With the power to move blocks, hundreds of things can be made: sliding doors, more complex/compact circuits, additions to every possible game mode including Survival.
    I myself I have written a post on electromagnets, and many others have suggested pulleys, pistons, and levers. They are all different, but have the same purpose: to interact with the world.

    – Inventory interaction
    I mentioned chests in one of my examples above. Every item in a chest is placed there by the player. There is no way of editing that inventory outside of tapping on the chest or blowing it up. If this could be changed, more possibilities would open including key/lock codes, item sorting, and transfer systems. Ideas for implementation include pipes, ducts, and vacuum cleaners (wait what?).

    – Block interaction
    The title of this idea is similar to the first, but this one is different. By “Block interaction”, I mean unique properties of blocks. For example, what is the difference between copper blocks and iron blocks? Sand and gravel? Malachite blocks? Allow me to clarify what point I am trying to make. Adding special properties to blocks would be very interesting. For example, Electric Detonators could cause nearby kegs to have a vastly increased chance of becoming projectiles. Malachite blocks cause bubbles to appear around it if the block is in water. Blocks can drop items if powered by electricity, or grab items out of a player’s inventory if said player walks too close. Limestone blocks slightly improve the lighting range of light blocks placed on it. Rye plants grow faster and have better yields when specific blocks are nearby. Block properties and interactions like these would make SurvivalCraft more diverse, unlike its current state (This block floats. This block falls. This block has a slightly higher blast resistance.).

    – Edits
    I’m not sure if this idea is actually on topic, but it is quite powerful (although simple). By “Edits”, I mean ways of interacting with blocks AND entities AND mechanics remotely or through electricity. Examples of this would be ways of setting a player’s respawn point without having to sleep (sudden idea spark: Journals. Placing these on blocks and adding electricity set the player’s respawn point to the block that it is on), summoning animals, and large edits to a world without having to place each and every single block. Of course, this sounds overpowered in Survival, but keep in mind that these examples are general ideas. “Summoning animals” could be “Lure Traps” which attract nearby creatures, and “World editing” could be a tool which places multiple blocks at once.

    I typed a lot, but the ideas here are suggested quite commonly. I’m sure that the forums have seen these suggestions before.

    Thank you for creating an excellent game, and please consider keeping these ideas in mind when adding the next block/mechanic/creature to make SurvivalCraft even better.

          O nice… Love it….. I kind of wanted to name mine charlie but that’s what I named my donkey…. Then butter but for my palomino horse…. Then charcoal for the black horse…. and paper for the white horse….. I don’t like any other rideable animals so I don’t name them… O can’t wait for the update when I can finally see lil Smokey in person….         Many things were made for military use that the military doesn’t even use. Microwaves for example were created for radar uses and now they are used to cook food. Just like the musket traded uses at the end of the war.

          No. Lol. At the end of what war? They were used for over 100 years, untill phased out by rifled muskets in the early 19th century. The smoothbore musket wasn’t really accurate past 50 yards, but it went great with military theory at the time. The only way to fight with projectiles was to use a whole bunch at the same time. The musket was a great military weapon, but a rifle was better for hunting. You could argue that even a bow was better for hunting.

          I have been planning for multiplayer war for a long time. I have come up with the closest thing to camouflage this game has to offer and it works! :-) I now have many of my own tactics and strategys that work as well! :-) each designed for protection, flying under the radar, and for taking out any fort man can build! :-) I just now discovered a way to make a fake grave yard that explodes when you break one specific grave that’s complete undetectable! :-) wen someone sees it that will think its real the underneaths of them is hollow but one specific one kills you when broken! :-) its the first real land mine that doesn’t need pressure plates on the surface to work! :-) yay

        Exactly muskets were used for hunting between wars people used them for very long periods. Muskets were and are still used for hunting because half the time you won’t see anything more than 50 arms away in the first place. Even with .308s nowadays you’ll never see one sighted in to 100 yards or more. Muskets are great for hunting and were largely used for that purpose. That’s why muzzle loaders are still arguably the best hunting rifle out there. By the way muskets are muzzle loaders, they just increased accuracy. Also, muskets are a lot more accurate than they get credit for. British muskets on the other hand weren’t because they were made significantly shorter. American muskets were long, heavy, and had a spiral. And all of which are great for accuracy.

          Something with a spiral isn’t considered a musket, that is a rifle.

          You can use a sword to split wood, but that wasn’t its purpose.

          I stated that the musket was designed for the purpose of killing people, not that it wasn’t used for hunting.

          Hunting with a musket(the name of a special type of firearm, not every muzzle loader) was not the intended purpose. It was designed for combat

I said the military sometimes doesn’t use things they were originally supposed to, however, I said nothing about their creations never working, quite the opposite actually maybe you don’t use microwaves but about everyone else ever in this world does.

        Pardon me, you are right about the spiral making it a rifle. Muskets being created for war is also right, but I never said that was wrong. Let me explain. I think everyone assumes this game takes place during present time right? Therefore, muskets have already been taken out of the whole war picture. Also, if there is no wars in the game why would he invent it for war? Because it’s not, it is for a cheap, easy to build, powerful, ranged weapon for hunting (in the game). You should know (not saying you didn’t) that muskets are possibly the easiest firearm to construct. In the Revolutionary war in America it was much harder to find someone who couldn’t make a musket than someone that could. Which is why there are so many different variations like the double barrel and duck foot. So since muskets were so powerful and easy to make that’s why they were picked for the game for hunting, and because they are a muzzle loader. (And yes, muzzle loaders aren’t muskets, but muskets are in fact muzzle loaders.) Muzzle loaders can also kill stuff as little as squirrels without ruining them which is why many hunters like them, they have a large range of things they can use them to kill.

    It would be interesting to find a deformed ball in the animal you kill. Since it is iron it wouldn’t splinter and spread out when it enters flesh. If we could melt them down and remake the balls then it would be pretty cool, and a more survival friendly weapon

I think he should maybe make that the way to even make the musket balls in the first place. One iron ingot in the furnace= about 3 or 4 balls. Two ingots in the furnace= 7 or 8 buckshot. It would be a new way to use the furnace mechanic.

    kaalus at 1.28 add more animals, people to not be alone, more objects, clothing, vehicles and even till an option to change the language to Spanish because I speak Spanish and play do not understand anything of what he says, to make these comments traducctor use google and I want to agrar least this option

    I love the new addition of a gun, very useful, that is, if you can find the materials for it! I’d feel a lot more safe with this by my side.

    I am an animal lover, and have seen the amazing work you’ve done already, so I’m wondering if it’s possible in the future for you to create animals that we can tame? It gets quite lonely… even with the horses to take care of. XD

    Two things I want one is a given…. Multiplayer….But the other one would be Auto built structures like old ruins and maybe houses or old dungeons just a idea thought that would be cool

          Usually things like natural disasters mess up thing and becomes very unrealistic. Just look at simcity where it becomes ridiculous. Even the lightning in SC is unrealistically severe. I wish I can switch it off. Now I have to disable all weather effects. The lightning destroys too much. I really do not want to go around just fixing things all the time. In real life you have maintenance, but we do not have the same time as in real life. If the game will have spent 50% of my time to maintain stuff, I’m out.

    I just embarked on a 5.2 jurny to the other side of the world where the shore changes direction and made it! I want to start another world do go on strike and protest to try to convince kaalus to update his blog today but it is pointless because I am doing nothing more than keeping myself busy so I don’t go crazy waiting for the blog post to come. :-P

      You can check up on wikipedia on how a musket works. It is there to keep the gunpowder inside. Sometimes they one to keep the bullet inside as well.

    Kaalus, the last updates you have brought were great, but almost all of of it applies only to survival mode. Can you please bring some enhancement for creative mode, like new blocks and items for building. That is however still subject to multiplayer. Maybe you should open up a bit and allow people to write mods to help.

      A revolver has a big difference though, they are way more advanced they use bullets and casings; while muskets only use musket balls. Revolvers are a little advanced, but maybe flintlock pistols with multiple barrels

        Well accually first revolvers like colt or remington system were percussion firearms. They were loaded by separate bullet , black powder charge and the percussion caps as a primer. Modern casing arms are later invention. Check thdsis one out

        In my theory, because of the clothes, ship, and weapons, I’d say that the year is 1790-1830.

        From wiki “The first guns with multichambered cylinders that revolved to feed one barrel were made in the late 16th century in Europe. They were expensive and rare curiosities. Not until the 19th century would revolvers become common weapons for non-rich owners. One of the first was a flintlock revolver made by Elisha Collier in 1814.”

    Kaalus, I have just found a bug.

    A projectile of any type has a 100% chance of penetrating armor. A arrow going through armor is fine, but 100% of the time any projectile going through and doing full damage isn’t realistic. How is a stone arrow going to pierce iron plate? You should be impervious to all arrows below iron. Heavy objects such as bricks I guess should still do a little damage

      You’re right! And do cactuses hurt you when you’re wearing armor? How about a revolver that takes less time to load (no cotton wad) but does less damage.

        I agree. I hate the monsters and rubbish of minecraft. All the unrealistic stiff is nonsense. I even do not like the werewolves. I would however like rails or something like it. And then there is multilayer…

    There is a major problem with a major block: bedrock. It isn’t a bug, it’s the block itself. Bedrock is actually a very thin rock that can literally be peeled into sheets. It is similar to mica, except mica is a mineral. So, to be using one of the most fragile rocks in America as the indestructible force preventing you from passing the world border is a bit crazy.

      In a 1 block deep pond, you can kill a fish with a stone arrow. Try to hit it from as close to directly above as possible.

      Hunting. Lots of hunting. Noblemen did it way back when muskets were the very top of technologies, and some people (like me) still prefer to use black powder and ball shot to hunt today.
