Windows Store Update

As you know since the last post, Survivalcraft is available in Windows Store.

You can now play it with mouse and keyboard on your powerful PC. Happy days.

In the meantime I have been fixing some issues. First of all, when you buy the game it does not immediately detect that you have done so. I rely on an event in Microsoft API to tell me that license has changed, but apparently it never fires.

I should have known better, these days to rely on any API to work is madness! Always assume it will not work.

Therefore in, after you bought the game you need to restart it for the trial status to go away. But it’s not easy on Windows. I don’t know any other way of doing it than either switching off the device, or using Task Manager to kill the process. Anything else merely suspends the app. Another not so good decision on Microsoft side, IMO. All other mobile platforms let you kill apps and no one is complaining. Why take it away?

Anyway, the update should fix that. App now checks the license status every time it’s activated, not just on startup or non-firing event.

Another improvement is that dragging with right mouse button only takes one element from stack, not all of them. This should make it easier to split stacks (the hold method still works, like on phones).

Yet another improvement is more help text! Especially a long topic about electricity in the help section.

I am sorry that at the moment people in Russia and Brazil do not have access to the game. This is because these countries require special age certificates to publish a game. I skipped them from initial release to make things simpler. This update should fix that, as it is marked for distribution everywhere.

That is: everywhere apart from Korea and Taiwan :-( These countries have really atrocious age certification schemes that require you to have a physical representative in the country to obtain one! Because I am not currently planning a trip to far east this will have to wait. Sorry.

Please keep downloading the demo from Windows Store.

You can kill the app, when on the main menu move the mouse up to the top and the bar will appear and X out. Assuming you have 8.1 that is.

That doesn’t kill the app, only suspends it.

I went ahead and bought the full game. Couldn’t resist.

Kaalus, for some reason the version that downloads on WP 10 is 1.27.12 It constantly fails to recognize my purchase… that API must be driving you nuts. I know it is me.

There is another way to restart apps in Windows 8…not easy to find though. You drag an app down from the top, then keep you finger on the screen when it is near the bottom, and it will flip over. Then let go and it relaunches.

Unfortunately no, swiping from the top doesn’t shutdown the app. It only suspends it. When you “launch” it again, it’s only resumed.

Will the update appear in the Windows 10 Store (last time it only showed up in the Windows 8.1 Store which is buggy in Windows 10) or do you not know?

Is now Survivalcraft on PC available in Europe?

  13. Posted April 17, 2015 at 22:00 | Permalink | Reply

Well that’s horrible on Microsoft part and especially Korea and Taiwan. Especially Korea which is a large market. LG and Samsung are from there! Seoul is there etc, South Korea that is, not the North :-). Hopefully this API mess gets fixed.

Kaalus, this is a bug report to the IOS. Everytime I type something in the IOS’s own UI, it scrolls down to the very bottom and I have to scroll up or tap it to stop it for doing that (when it only shows up)

Kaalus, in a previous post you mentioned that you could set your viewing distance to 1024 on a PC. I can only set it to 256 in the trial. Is there a way to override this? I see this on Android as well.

And I do suppose if I want to have SC on Windows as well, I have to pay for another license. I have bought it on Android. Just checking.

Please also support keyboard and mouse support on Android.

Dragging with the right mouse-button doesn`t for me. Am I too dumb for it or am I doing it wrong. Can one of you tell me if this is working for you?

    • Posted April 19, 2015 at 18:10 | Permalink | Reply

It’s because the update is not out yet. Wait for, it’s still in certification in Microsoft.

Hello loyal Survivalcrafters! We asked you if you wanted merchandise and you answered! We will be starting out with this limited edition shirt to see how sales go, and if it’s a success we will make other shirts with other designs, such as the Candy Rufus Games logo, the Survivalcraft logo, and maybe even a Nkiruka shirt!

Help us reach our goal of 5 shirts and support the site! (We’ll try to think of a reward for those who purchase, don’t worry…)

(Yeah, I’m aware these are quite pricey…that’s why we’ll try to come up with an extra special reward for those of you who buy it)

It certainly is…just to let you know we’re getting rid of this shirt. I’m sure nobody wants this. We’re going to have a plain white shirt with the actual Survivalcraft logo in the center. That will sell better I hope.
