I am still working on the new survival mechanics. Hopefully will be able to show you something shortly. Don’t worry – at the moment the idea is that they will only work in Challenging and Cruel. Harmless will stay as it is, or at the very least will have a much nerfed variant of the survival.
Having so many of you to bounce ideas against is great. You spotted something which I haven’t even thought of. If I make it so that the player needs to sleep regularly, he will be forced to sleep outside of his house while on long journeys. This will invalidate the last spawn position, and the compass will no longer work. Finding the way home will be difficult.
Fortunately, there’s an easy way to fix this:
A magnet is a new block being introduced in 1.22. Once placed, the compass will point towards it. When more than one is placed, they will point to the nearest one.
It will be crafted from iron (obviously), but I also want to add some other ingredient, and I’m not sure which yet. If you have any good ideas for magnet recipes, please post them below in the comments (preferably the whole recipe, including the shape).

Also kaalus, if u want a magnet, u have to make a mineral like cobalt, nickel blabla. Well, in order to be a magnet, u would have to get an electron magnet processor and get the cobalt and then let the cobalt infuse with the magnetic field from the processor. Here’s the idea, u make a machine, and make new minerals, cobalt blabla again. So u make the machine and u get cobalt or blabla and put it in and put a switch then turn it on. Oooorrrrr, u can go to caves and reach a magnetic field radius which the stone is magnetic, that’s where in real life, they magnetized it from there, but that’s too difficult

Why not add more crops and armor for horses and us. Also add a gun to craft like u need to create a bullet and gunpowder and u waste those to shoot but will take a long time to reload. Can u please add more minerals like gold, graphite or what ever. Ik ur gonna add a hunger bar and or thirst bar, OH YEAH, add a sprinting mode but a stamina bar too which if it lessens it uses up the hunger bar a tiny bit. Ok just add more weapons, there’s only like two weapons. I might be lectured here but kaalus did the werewolf right? So I want this game not to be realistic all the time, what I’m saying is this, I want unique creatures and temples or villages or NPCS which we need. And u should add a new system while killing an animal, like if u jump up and hit it on the head, the damage is strong. Like if u aim a spear at the head it will receive alot of damage. They’ve copied us; I don’t see why we can’t copy them. They stole coal blocks and modded them so that they smelt 72 items in the furnace. I don’t see the deal with that. They aren’t found naturally but are crafted with nine coal chunks. 9×8=72 because each individual coal chunk smelts eight items. Stupid! And they stole horses. They’re not poets, they can’t steal Kaalus’ s hard work!!! We should steal Redstone for a tiny update on Google Play’s Bug Filter (the people with Google Play and survivalcraft). Then when the first complaint comes through Kaalus could take out Redstone. Probably not a good idea, though. Don’t do it please, Kaalus!

Yes, a renewable food source is definetly needed. Milk may be renewable, but because it’s not stackable, it’s useless for long trips were you need more of food in a small space. What about rice, which could grow next to water (unless that’s to much like minecraft:/)

Ferrite
“Ferrite” would be iron; we’ve got that. If Kaalus is going to add nickel and/or cobalt, it would be nice to have at least one other use for them, besides making a magnet.

Maybe you can make multiplayer mode. For example you can create a world with a friend or friends. It will make the thinks more faster, obviously you have to make a chat (maybe videochat) orvoice chat.
You can already chat just use a sign attached to a switch write something and flip the switch boom instant message. There you go

I had a bug once where I left my house for a while, then came back (to the chunk after sleeping elsewhere) and all my horses and cows had despawned. It hasn’t happened since then, but it’s probably not a good sign

Well you don’t really need a battery to make a magnet, but what I was thinking of is if u wanted it to be more realistic u could make it so you have to smelt an iron ingot to magnetize it and once u smelt it u get a magnet, and u could also make it even more realistic by having to dye one magnet for the colored side of it and maybe a crafting recipe like this…. 1=Iron 2=Magnet 3=Colored magnet N=Nothing

Iron may have natural magnetism but when heated they lose most of it. Iron can be repolarized be running electric current near it or by wrapping it with a wire running current, aka an electromagnet. Maybe a battery can be implemented into the crafting recipe, maybe as the following:

Consider that this would make a huge convenience for any player, but convenience should be balanced by the cost of such luxury. Personally, I prefer he second design, which can logically make sense in re magnetizing iron, but it’s still debatable.

Why flint? Never heard of it ever used in a magnet before. Keep in mind that realism govern SC elements and mechanics.
[edit] I just read your second comment a minute later after typing the above. You have the right idea, having the magnet being crafted as an electromagnet. If your design is considered I would personally would have iron bars be replaced by iron blocks, or at least mayb the bottom ones to add a challenge.
It’s survival, so convenience shouldn’t just come cheap.
Inventory space NEEDS to be increased!! Can You add some sort of piston block? That would be AWESOME! Also torches need to give off heat to melt snow (snow is annoying). Also add different colors of wood/paint.

For those of you who don’t know what lodestone i s it is a magnetic rock. This would require addig lodestone. If lodestone is added when underground compassescould point to lodestone.
This is rather important to consider:
What will the compass point to is you craft that first? Does it point to the “poles” of the SC world like a real compass (sun/ moon AKA north/ south? By the time a magnet is placed this can be removed of course, but I was just wondering the idea.

The magnet should be made with copper and iron and in a U shape in the crafting table with the tips of the U being copper and the rest iron to represent the magnet. Or probably u could add the ‘sacagewea’ method of finding home where u smell the floor. u could add a button for finding ur way home to start smelling the ground or u could train wolves to know their way home another thing u could do with dogs is to make them sit and stay, attack, hunt, and secure area. to give them a command tap and hold till a drop down menu pops up with a variety of selections.

Let’s say the player wants to go to another location(which has a magnet at its location), how would the player go to that location if the one near him is at his location? Maybe the ability to swap in-between magnets will help, allowing us to write on magnets(like signs) and open a GUI which will allow us to switch the magnet we want to go to(being recognized through its name).

Right, say as a player I want to put magnets down at certain “landmark” points during a long excursion, then I get to the end, do whatever I want to do, and start heading back home. Compass points to my nearest landmark magnet. When I get to it, I can’t find the way to the next one along the way home because the one I’m standing at is the nearest one. Possibly make the compass point to the nearest magnet, unless you’re within a certain number of blocks of it, in which case it points to the *next* nearest one (basically, a magnet within say 5-10 blocks does not count as a magnet for compass pointing purposes). Then again I guess when I get to the nearest magnet, I could just dig it up LOL. Maybe never mind?
Nah, that wouldn’t work either, because when I leave landmark magnet 1 heading toward landmark magnet 2, as soon as I get 1 block outside the ignore radius, compass will start pointing back to it again. Yeah I could dig them up one by one but I might want to go back along that path again later. Best option is something like labels on magnets with gui on compass saying “which one do you want to point to,” or map with placed magnets shown, or a combination. Then I could place a magnet at my house, label it as “home” and always find my way back. Might be difficult to make a map of a dynamically generated world though, I don’t envy you trying to implement this Kaalus.

Since theres iron the tips should be something that has a pull so the compass points there do some research on it maybe and you will probally have to add some kind of ore because copper makes no sense im not sure but lead might have a pull so make sure its realistic

Im loving SC so much kaalus!! Could you please add some kind of minecart ir similar into it as well as powered and unpowered tracks? I want to build a railroad so bad! If you can add this, it will make SC eons above MCPE!

Everything seems great so far. Thanks to survival craft Ive taken a huge interest in electronics, and started creating my own static Ram in survival craft-with a decoder and direct connection to registers for a cpu. I’ve managed to buy two books on electronics, and can nearly tell you everything about ram.
Ive also constructed an 8 bit counter and everything easy with the help of SR latches.
Adding math equations can be tedious could you make it easier by adding a half adder as a gate in the game?

And there should be added some rocks with magnet inside. They will change the direction of the magnetic line. It can make you feel doubt of where is your house. But from this rock you can get the iron, copper and something what from you can make a magnet.

This is based on the fact that you can magnetize a steel bar by striking it on a hard surface (thank you MacGyver!), and also lets you make the compass more realistic and easier to get by replacing that diamond at the center.
Kaalus, i know this is kinda off subject but, do u think you could do solar pannels? Have it help by increasing lighting in house also to keep the Magnet running and have it charge the battery so when the sun goes down the battery makes it last all night . I for one think its a great idea. It may take some tome to make it but hey you have to wait for things in life

Since you’ve already included electronics I think it should be an electromagnet and a bar magnet instead of a horseshoe. By being an electronic components we could also use it for mag-Lev and possibly pistons. In the future they could even be components in portals, railguns, timed lifting blocks for controlling slice gates on dams or whatever you’re imagination can come up with. An electromagnet would give you a myriad of uses whereas a fixed magnet would only serve a few.

I have an idea! Could we place metal collars, bridles, etc on animals and when we walk they will follow? I know ropes would be hard so this is my idea. I’m personally thinking this would mainly be for wolves, boars, and bears because there’s already the whistle for others.
Plus, an addition to survival struggles with a collared wolf on the full moon! >:)

is no one using the sun , that great big shiny thing that comes up in the east and sets in the west, as does the moon. if your very lost wait until you see the path of either, chances are your first builds are gonna be in south east where you land at begining. heading east towards the beach and then following it south should get most to somewhere they know.
When you head out leave markers or signs as you go make paths or corridors or just note your heading.
A watch and shadows would make it more realistic otherwise that magnet contraption is the equivalent of a satelite and the compass a megellan or (sat nav)

If you really want to make a magnet without the old way of continualy striking an iron bar that faces north with another iron bar (by the way this is real science try it if you like)
But you want a craft recipe that’s realistic then its (cu) copper wire x3 top line (fe) iron x 3 on middle line than (cu) copper wire x3 on bottom line . this mostly resembles the iron nail with copper wire that when electricity is introduced becomes an electro magnet so yeah create. then add circuit with switch and light or diode showing its on. hope this helps

what i should note is that magnets can only be made using ferous metal you cannot magnetise copper although you can magnetise copper coins that contain ferous metals. the addition of copper in coils around the iron with energy passed through create the magnetic affect.
You get electromagnetic fields from overhead power lines usualy alluminium (Aa) or Copper (Cc) the reason for this is because they both contain ferrous metals to give them strength. Allowing for larger spans and cost reduction.
Hey kaalus so since your working on survival aspects of this game such as enhanced compasses and boats and stuff, do you you think you are going to come out with armour like leather armour or fur armour or even plated armour like when you enhance iron with diamonds?
Lots of perfectly good magnet ideas posted already so I wont add another recipe. I like the loadstone idea best I think. The only problem with adding another mineral is that if I understand correctly it wont show up in areas that you have already explored and/or built around due to those parts of the map already being established. Still…it would be worth getting another mineral.
Also I like the idea of being able to add a switch. This way if you are standing next to one and don’t remember the direction to head to the next, you could momentarily switchit off, note the direction, and switch it back on. Then head in the noted direction keeping the compass pointed behind you. After crossing the halfway point the compass would spin around and point to the destination
Sorry…but I don’t personally care for the idea of adding villagers or space travel to survivalcraft since the point of the game is that you are stranded on an uninhabited island. NPC’s would be awesome for adventure maps…but shouldn’t be in survival mode.
Another idea for resource….straw. grass drops tufts. two tufts crafted vertically drop four straws. six straws give straw tile, nine straw gives a block ect… Maybe even a straw hat could be thrown in the mix. ;-) Straw blocks (or call them haybales) could be put in horse/cattle pens to keep them from trying to escape maybe? As long as there is a nearby block of straw the livestock will hang close to it. This would stop a lot ofcomplaints about peoples livestock getting out of the pens.

The paint is just so that the tips of the magnet would be red.
Then, i have an idea, there could be different magnets, for each compass. I mean that if you use different kind of paint when making the magnet, a compass with the same color code would point to that specific magnet. In the current compass, the arrow that points to the spawn, is red. So that means, that if you want to use a magnet, you have to use red paint when making it. So with a green magnet you would use a compass with a green arrow. Kaalus, please tell me what you think, and others too! :)

Might I suggest a GPS instead of a magnet. The device would be expensive, but would allow you to lay down waypoints, and even have a map of the area. It could made with a compass on top, and a glass middle, a battery on the bottom and iron copper or germanium caseing to the right Or left.
How about flaming spears? When crafting a spear you put a chunk of coal and a math on it and when you through it catches fire and lights what it hits on fire.

Hello Kallus im from poland so sorry for bad english.I have very cool emm winter summer clothes firecamps .clothes we made from leather and we need take skin from wolfs bears wich knife 2 seasons when is winter on all world only no desert .will snow but no only half block but more we must use shovel .temperature will go lower we must use campfire or create some to get hot.clothes helpbto stay hot longer y.ou stay hearts go blue and stay ice when its get soo cold you will die . Clothes looks some like.you know. Summer get hight temperature you must drink water.on desert you must have turban or some to defend head from sun .in summer will rain thunder etc .that cycle can hmm 14 day winter 7 summer and that will cool for farming you now but that must be longer hmm winter 30 day summer 15 and you must take three on winter to burn it in campfire or something like fence to temperature .hungry bar be awesome on winter hunt for deer etc but that not easy on winter will be more wolf soo they kill animals on summer it will normal .farming will cool too beacuse you have only 15 day to plant hmm somthing to make bread that grow 6 day and we must geting water beacuse summer is hot and our plant get you know.that all what i say now i lm think for more to.like that will be survival

Fabulous game. I’m addicted. One question I had about the magnets. Lets say I’m coming back home from a long exploration. I am at a camp with a magnet and I just came from a more remote camp with a magnet. I leave to get closer to home. Wouldn’t the previous camps magnets affect the compass if they were closer than the next stop I want to get to?

Hey kaalus why dont u add chickens? But instead of chickens they could be junglefowls! To me, junglefowls are a wild bird that u would find in the open. Chickens like from minecraft are pets. But since junglefowls are not yet implemented in minecraft, u should take advantage of this idea. Junglefowls could be found in herds or 4-6 and eat grass. They could glide only for a short while and run fast making them one of the hardest animals to catch in sc but using a whistle could drive them.

Kalus, could u please ad corn and farming? Because if we need food to live we cannot go in our horse to go hunt some cattle every day and bring them to kill them, dont you think so? Also, if u could could ad some new things or features like quartz, rubies, bronce, gold, silver, platinum, preciuos gems, obsidian, pumise ( or however it is written), volcanoes ( THAT WILL BE AWESOME), make diamonds harder to find, add sheep and be able to collect their wool to make clothes, add whales, bigger sharks, ad squirrels, more birds, more food, be able to make an iron boat to navegate through lava, ad a radio to hear news ( THATS SILLY),add villagers, ad a flute craft from 3 irons in a row that can be used to call birds or just to entertain yourself or even use to make ourself sleep or ad a pan flute use fot the same purposes, ad a chair and desk and paper and pencils to make our lives in the island more fun, ad dogs to help hunt chickens, ad chikens and farm animals, ad bows, and cannons!!!!! That will be really helpfull to blow up a mountain that wets in my way O_o, and snakes and insects and scorpions and eagles and zebras and jungle biomes and bigger lakes and more scorpions and snakes and everything else!!!!!!!!

For a magnet, you could use iron, you don’t have to make a whole new mineral. You could also come up with a way to make plastic (if you really want to make more minerals) to create a tracker of some sort out of the magnet. SO you could place your base or ‘trackable’ in several locations with different ‘signal waves’ made by a code of two or four different colored buttons on the trackable. You can then plug that code into your tracker to find any specific location using just one device. You should also make boats but that’s just my opinion… XD Let me know what you think of these ideas, please. I’ve got a million more if you like my ideas. (good at coming up with ideas for stuff but I have no way to implement them into anything)

Maybe you could use malachite, I think that’s how you spell it, to color the magnet, then you could see it from a distance, if you don’t have a compass… I don’t know the whole list of ingrediants, so sorry about that!
You should add volcanoes, hurricanes, and tornadoes it would make the game more realistic. But don’t add guns because a person who gets stranded on an island, can’t just bro and build a gun. I also think you should remove electricity.
