1.21 Is Out

1.21 is now out on Google Play. In a couple of hours you should be able to download it. Please give it a thorough wringing!

This was the longest wait yet, almost 2.5 months since the last release. It would have been out about 3 weeks ago, had I not screwed up so much with Apple. On the other hand, there would be no cowboy stuff in it then. So, all in all, I think it’s alright!

There are so many little things in 1.21 that I forgot to mention during the development. And it’s too late now, I would have to write a monster post :-) Instead, I’ll just let you know about some of the electrics changes I made:

• Lightbulbs are much bigger, spanning almost entire block. I think they look nicer this way, but this is to allow making of more seamless electric displays
• LEDs are much bigger as well, and most importantly, the glow size grows with distance, so I think they should be preferred over lightbulbs for making screens. They do not slowdown the game at all when they change state, because terrain lighting does not need to be recalculated.
• Wire-through-block elements should allow you to make densely packed screens, unlike in 1.20 where you had to separate the bulbs by at least 1 block to make space for wires.
• There is a XOR gate. It’s a little thing, but I kept getting a lots of emails mentioning it, so it’s there.
• Another thing is the random generator, which has already been shown some time ago.
• And of course the signs can be connected to a wire and display their message on screen when activated. Some of the existing community maps have placed signs near wires (accidentally). They will start firing their messages now, so it may look a bit silly.
• Finally, the SR latch behavior has been fixed (when the clock input is connected). The unfortunate effect of that is some of the existing devices will stop working, because they were built to use the old, broken latch. No helping that unfortunately :-(
• The pressure plate now triggers reliably when placed in a 1×1 hole and something is dropped into it.

I’ll post the full 1.21 changelist next time.

Ah, of course, the extra animal. It’s a surprise, find out for yourself. It’s pretty conspicuous, but not so common, so you may need to do some travelling. Kudos to the first correct comment saying what it is!

The latest blocks texture for 1.21 is up on Files/Technical page. Please update your block textures. Please do not report it as a bug if you see mushrooms, but you are using a custom blocks texture that turns white flowers into them. This is a user error :-) Also, using a blocks texture that does not support the new 1.21 blocks will cause pink pixels to appear on your screen – no reason to panic, switch to the default one.
