Today I added a new interesting game mechanic. I thought I won’t have time for that, but Apple is still reviewing 1.20, so I do (I guess Apple are not really doing anything, 1.20 is just sitting in the queue).
Here’s a video of this new little shiny thing:
I think it will come quite handy and was easy to do.
Leaving the game aside, I am looking for some advice from the audiophiles among you.
I want to buy a decent pair of computer speakers. To stand next to my desktop. I used to have Creative T2900s (http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Inspire-T2900-Speaker-System/dp/B0000AZJZB), but they’re rubbish for listening to music. The satellites have tiny speakers (about 2 inches), and the subwoofer, which is about 4.5 inches, does not provide any middle tones. I guess because the circuitry cuts it off around 200Hz. In short, they sound horrible, completely without a middle.
This time I wanted something without a subwoofer. I definitely didn’t want rumbling bass – this is good for watching movies or playing Battlefield, but for music it’s useless.
I’m not an expert on the subject, so I just bought a pair of these: http://www.samsontech.com/samson/products/studio-monitors/studio-gt/studiogt/
And guess what, I am extremely disappointed. They may be sounding “true” and have “flat response” blah blah blah, but they’re absolutely no fun to listen to.
I don’t want rumbling, booming bass, but it doesn’t mean I don’t want any bass. And there isn’t any. To me, these Samsons sound like a speaker from a small, old FM radio. I actually compared them to Creative T2900 satellites (no subwoofer), and they sound pretty much the same – crap. Despite allegedly having 4.25 inch woofer vs 2 inch in the Creatives. I don’t think they produce any audible tones below 150Hz.
So here’s my question: does anyone know about good 2.0 speakers (no subwoofer), active (i.e. with amp built in) that have decent bass? Also, they cannot be too big, up to about 200mm wide and 350mm high, otherwise they won’t fit where I want to place them.
The Samsons will be going back soon.
