More Electrics

I am churning through the list of remaining things to be done for 1.19. It’s still quite big…

I know you would like to see pistons added in 1.19, but there are two problems with it. First, it would take a lot of time, on top of what I have planned already. Second, it’s exactly what Minecraft does! As you’d expect, I don’t want to copy it, unless there is no other sensible way. I haven’t thought about it enough to know whether there is or isn’t. Personally, I haven’t done anything with pistons in Minecraft, and I don’t know if they have any weaknesses, or if something else could work better for shifting blocks.

Maybe you have some ideas?

Anyway, here’s a new video with some more electrics for you:

Perhaps electric actuators as an alternative to hydraulic pistons? Either way I really hope you integrate a way to shift blocks because in my opinion that is one of the most enjoyable aspects of minecraft. But dont kill yourself trying to cram it into 1.9. You’ve done more than enough already Kaalus. Cant wait to see the new update.

How about winches, motors, and hydraulics.
Winches would look like pulleys and would move certain blocks up and down, an application would be a elevator
A motor would be used to move a object used eventually to make vehicles, but in the meantime would be used used to craft winches and hydraulics.
A hydraulic is a super piston, that can move up to a 9 by 9 square of certain blocks(sand gravel planks iron and copper)
Might use a few to many block id’s but would be way cooler then minecraft.

Perhaps you could make conveyor belts for moving blocks long distances, and air jets that would move a block up 1 or a player (standing directly on top) up 2 blocks. The conveyor belts would be able to move many blocks so you could build a small house on one and move it between many mines!

Don’t kill yourself over this update and trying to add everything at once. Its already a pretty awesome update! Also I may have missed it but have you mentioned any device that could act to delay an electric current (like a repeater in minecraft) or a dispenser-like object or have these planned for sometime in a future update? As for an alternative to pistons I’m not quite sure but if you end up making pistons, you could differentiate them from minecraft by instead of making sticky pistons, because we’d also need to pull blocks back, with some kind of goo (slime in minecraft), using the spike trap. It would suggest that the spikes are stabbing the block thus creating grip, and it would be a bit different from Minecraft while still providing the same functionality. I just now realized that a suggestion like this probably belongs on the forum, so I’ll also I’ll make a thread there and perhaps describe my idea more clearly. Anyway great, job kaalus! Keep up the amazing work.

I like this idea too. I had thought of it but kind of ignored myself after I thought that it would be pretty tough to make a single crafting recipe for it. The way you’re saying, kaalus might have to add magnetic plates, something to hold them in the same vertical/horizontal-one-block area, and maybe something else. I’m curious if you can think of a crafting recipe that would have as little of an impact on available block IDs as possible. Great idea nonetheless, and this may be the more creative way to go about it.

          Posted December 3, 2012 at 22:10 | Permalink

Here’s my idea for a recipe: have copper, make copper wires, make copper COIL, add a piece of electronic, and you have a electromagnetic half block, then use new material Magnetite to create a magnetic platform that can rise to any level . Plus the electromagnetic blocks are connectable to form a futuristic railway that can run on walls and ceiling :-D

That would be cool where you could place a magnet to one side of a block and another magnet with a different or similar polarity with it allowing one block to be pulled or attracted.

    • Posted December 3, 2012 at 06:00 | Permalink | Reply

Perhaps to save block ids Kaalus could add a GUI to the battery that only opens when you hit it with an iron block, ingot, (whichever would make the magnet depending on difficult it should he to get them) and you would place the soon-to-be-magnet in a slot to charge the metal and make a magnet. However it takes a long time for metal to become magnetized. And when placing it on surfaces you tap once for one polar side to face put, and tap again for the opposite side to show l, for repelling and pulling. and they could be turned on and off with buttons, levers, ECT. (perhaps multiple switches for more power) or maybe directly to the battery?
I really like this idea! It’s great. Hope I could help. Btw total block ids: 1- magnet

I take the latest video almost confirmation of the possibility of multiplayer gaming, also a very cool tool now for those who already have made some adventures. your use of the six sides does make alot of sense. Can those trap doors be used the other way and if so could sand or gravel be placed on them? In other words a trap door that could turn electrical energy into kinetic energy. Can you see where i’m Going?.

I ralise the trap door is already kinetic energy but using it to say drop sand blocks etc may be used to close off water or turn it on for that matter. i’m sure other actions could be obtained from that.

Ooooh, instead of pistons, there could pulleys, as a few have said. Hmmm, there could also be floaters, which can be put under a block/chest, and it will cause it to have little to no friction, and have it float a block above the ground. From there you could make cars, trains, moveable castles, villages, even cities! But, that’s going a bit far. You could set the Floater on the ground, and it would stay static until a block is placed on it, and you could build blocks off of it, making possible to have a few chests being pushed ahead of you. And because it floats above the ground, it could go places you could. And maybe float on water? Well, maybe that’s a bit much, but it sounds pretty good. Anyway, that’s my weekly input for ideas. Thank you for considering it, even if you end up not using it.

you should make electric boats and cars. you could also make and electric generator that runs on wood/coal and water, sorta like a steam powered generator with unlimited power for 1000 square blocks.
maybe you could also make and electric miner that digs blocks in long straight lines and stores stuff in chests.

another thing that would be great is triangle blocks that can make a slope?

also another thing that would be great is having a larger inventory possibly?

Here are some ideas, Teleportantion able to not only transfer people but also carts like walking into a stargate. Mine Machines, Sateliite block able to track the character, a machine that aids in showing location of different mines underground, Large Mine Carrier that can go any where and even underground housing in mine tools and vehicals. If you add vehicals to the game before minecraft dose it would be interesting. Vehicals that build tunnels, gather resources, tranfers and all. Like a modern miner with lasers and all. Ropes, Mountain miner, space mining, water mining, ice mining and make deep unground harder enough to need special equipiment. Space mining ahh… Make just get like a Large building or a door to the space version of the counsel but large enough to send other vehicals their or so Forgive my crazy mind just adding my two cents in their.
