The Big Thing

Seeing that 1.17 does not have showstopping problems so far, touch wood, I am starting work on releasing the Big Thing. I don’t know how long it will take because it’s the first time I am doing it, ever.

No one has guessed 100% correctly what the big thing is yet, but some people were close. So I’ll dispel the darkness and give you a monster hint. This will only leave you to guess between several possibilities. It is not a feature. It took a long time to make. What could it be? Congratulations to bartekxyz who (I believe) was the first to mention that possibility, on 9th of October. Great insight – so little clues and such a good guess. Made me blink a few times when I saw the comment :-) It is a new platform, yes. What remains of the mystery is what platform it is. Sherlock Holmes would surely be able to eliminate large number of platforms straight away based on what was said in this and earlier posts and comments :-) In fact I think only 2 platforms remain as reasonable contenders, so please keep guessing, but I will probably tell you very soon anyway.

Kaalus…. Are you saying that the big thing won’t benefit the game variety/features in game or its existing players, (ok, so you could move a saved game via dropbox onto a different console) but apart from that not needed feature, for existing players, this “big thing”, in general, would only benefit certain new players who have these new consoles and you? Meaning that, its not so big…. (and for the record, I have no idea what a platform, computer wise meant until now, and im no wizz kid with computers, so if everything i have said is wrong, then do forgive me :P )

I’m guessing windows phone 8 obviously, Xbox 360 and possibly windows RT

      Hi Cooperdan,

I will explain how it will benefit Windows Phone 7 users in the next post. But yes, you are right, there is no immediate benefit from the big thing to WP7 owners and it bugs me as well :-(

Well, it is big if you think about it. It means SC will expand, greatly increasing it’s community. It is more of a benefit and a big thing for itself, it’s developer, and it’s community it’s in general. Would you not be you content if it became the next MineCraft, or better? Anyways, congratulations on the big achievement kaalus! Fighting!

I am guessing that the new platform is either IOS or android. Xbox would be the cooler choice though especially since it involves Microsoft. Some downsides about it being on the Xbox though is that it might end up costing $20 bucks or something expensive like that. Also if it is going to be made for a new platform updates will take longer as Kaalus will have to switch between platforms when updating. I am a little disappointed about the “Big Thing” as I thought it would be a cool new feature to the game but I guess a new platform (as long as it is not android) is ok. As mentioned before in a previous post please add “Redstone” devices to the game. I really want this badly and I feel the only way to do this is to copy exactly what minecraft already has.

Also remember to include the option to send a gamefile from the phone to the other platform. For example (if the new platform is a Xbox) you can send some file to the Xbox and back and be able to play it on both.

Sorry to disappoint you jriot10, it is Android :-( But the good news is you can share the world files between devices.

For me it was pretty obvoius it has something to do with different version as you said it’s not a feature but something different and time consuming. I put my bet on Windows 8/RT as it’s now popular for WP7 developers to port their apps to W8. But if it’s not that…. Maybe it’s a specific WIndows Phone 8 version written in c++ with directx and what not? Survivalcraft in 720p making use of Adreno 225 would be more than cool. Not some shabby WP7 port running in stretched WVGA.
