Block stacking bug

As with every version, 1.16 must also have its share of problems. Fortunately this time the issues seem to be more benign. You might have noticed that when you use e.g. a block of dirt to dig something, the block of dirt becomes “unstackable”, i.e. you cannot stack it with other blocks of dirt. This happens for all blocks, not just dirt. Sand, stone, torches, sticks, everything.

The reason for this behavior is when you dig, damage is applied to the dirt block, even though it’s indestructible (and will never actually break). This damage makes it different from all other “normal” dirt blocks, and prevents stacking with them in a single inventory slot.

Unfortunately to heal the block, you would need to use it exactly 65535 times more for the damage counter to overflow and flip back to 0. I guess this is not really a usable workaround :-)

Thanks for all those who pointed this issue out to me. This is already fixed for 1.17. I hope this is only slightly annoying in the meantime.

    Kaalus,
I’ve noticed an issue with falling blocks of dirt and sand: right after reaching the floor after falling down, the upper side of the block turnes of +90° if I’m not mistaking. Can’t it be a source of diminution of the framerate or even a source of freezing? On my Omnia 7, it is slightly visible but maybe not an 2th and 3th Gen. By the way there is maybe some optimization to do around this point.
I can make a thread on the forum, with pictures and futher details, if you need.

Hi Korbak. Well spotted, I haven’t verified this yet but if this is happening it’s purely a rendering issue. No performance problems there. Falling blocks are drawn by a very different code than static blocks, hence the rotation.

got my update 4th september. (uk) silly question are you connected to internet one way or another, and do you look in the marketplace window on phone. this usually has a numeric say 14 on and clicking on it takes you to a page which lists your games etc. and on the bottom a line telling you say 14 updates available?

Kaalus, I have a small suggestion regarding the spear; I feel it should have a farther “melee range” compared to the machete/axe, as it is a polearm. Also, considering that the machete have a bigger cutting edge, but requires only two iron bars, i think that should be made to be proportional; the spear has a much smaller edge. Maybe it should be crafted with two sticks and one iron bar, and reducing the shovel to only one stick and one iron bar.

This is generally a good idea but I prefer to keep the shovel the same way as it is in Minecraft to avoid new player confusion.

True. This is my first “block-world” style game, so I am used to referring to the recipaedia, but I guess it would confuse others with prior experience.

are there planned uses for cacti in future versions of the game

    • Posted September 17, 2012 at 22:43 | Permalink | Reply

I don’t have any ideas yet. Initially I thought I’ll use them for green paint but then I went for more realistic paint mixing model which did not require green.

The Chinese used to make scale armor out of paper during the middle ages; that would make for an interesting low level armor. [Followed by leather armor, and iron plate-armor…]

well wool can be turn’t into balls of wool then coloured in different paints and then that could be knitted using twiggs, turning it into a hat and jumper, that could be worn in the cold snowy areas. not much of an armour but you’d look smart.

I like the idea. Once temperature turns into a survival factor, that would be very useful. It should also limit the amount of armor that can be worn…

sir knight your one could be done i a grey colour and shaped like knights crusade head gear and and shield animals from any distance would probably leave you alone.

I’ll be glad to have any sort of defense against the wildlife, but true, considering the technology level of the game once iron can be smelted, that type of armor would be possible. But kaalus will add in the armor once he feels we need it. For now, personal experience is that the best defense is ofrense; a machete and two spears on hand.

Yeah, I’ve gotten that same kind of sense from Kaalus, too and I also think it would be cool to know more about Kaalus. One thing I’d be interested to know is how this game for started, what was his inspiration, etc.

if you portal, like a matter transporter. one exists, but i only does half a job.
this is how it works say you wanted to collect lots of sand and bring it back to your castle. head out to a sandy area armed with just a shovel or two and a chest, when you get there create a crued shelter and place you chest in it , sleep the first night, following day work all day collecting sand leave your shovels in the shelter, and when your pockets are full run walk back to your castle, fill several furnaces and leave all your sand behind now go and jump from top of castle, when you wake up you’ll be back at dessert area. repeat as many times as you like.

Could it be undone if you place a damaged block and have it dug up again? I haven’t been playing in a while, so I can’t test it yet.

    • Posted September 20, 2012 at 13:58 | Permalink | Reply

That’s a good idea actually. It might work, although I can’t say with certainty without testing it. I am 90% confident that it will fix it.

    Posted September 20, 2012 at 20:01 | Permalink | Reply

unbroken turned into broken ones yeah, but it changes when you use the block as a tool on a said block. you can break all and harvest say all with a pick and they will all go in one block but are different to fresh harvested blocks, and harvesting with a block changes too. make sense. as far as i am aware there are only two types(important i think)

I think you should add guns in the next update, and you build it with planks and iron bars and you stack gunpowder on it to make it shoot. And when you have it equipped crosshairs and a little fire button below the sneak button.
