1.16 is here

1.16 passed the cert a short time after I wrote the last post. Should start appearing in the marketplaces later today or tomorrow. Please give it a go and tell me if the freezes are gone. And watch for these polar bears.

So far I was lucky and haven’t had a fail from Microsoft in the 17 submissions of Sc I made. One of them was a near miss with the back button not working properly on a Dropbox message box, but they passed it conditionally. Let’s hope I’ll be able to keep it that way :-)

Anyway, all is not rosy over here, because I screwed up often enough on various other things, such as memory leaks, pink screens and old worlds not loading. My testing before each release is getting more complicated with every version. So bring it on and let’s see what is broken in 1.16…

    Making mistakes isn’t an issue.

The important thing is fixing them and you always fix them Kaalus.

At this point in development we (the players) are more of a branch of testers just submitting bug reports to a higher power. then we count on you to eliminate these bugs so we can then continue to help you create the amazing game that survivalcraft is turning out to be. We are more than thankful that you act so quickly to fix these small errors so we can even further enjoy this game. I think I speak for many of us when i say thank you, and keep up the good work kaalus!

As the fellow players mentioned; this game is only in alpha, and yet it plays perfectly fine with the exception of the occasional mishap. It is bound to happen, and we are more than happy to help you find them. Not every game incorporates its community into the build process as much as this one does, and you should feel proud for that kaalus.

The mistakes are inevitable, and ok, considering that you, as one person have created a big game.
why not consider hireing someone to help you, or even check your code?

How do you get kaalus’s textures ????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

    • Posted September 14, 2012 at 01:00 | Permalink | Reply

What textures do you mean? Texture packs? You need to setup a Dropbox account and download them from there in the game. If you mean the default texture pack so that you can modify it and create your own on a PC, it’s here: https://kaalus.files.wordpress.com/2012/03/blocks6.png

I got the game update!, is very beautiful and is working very well for me! great job kaalus!! I love the new function of painting :) … but I have only a very small bug in the game:

    – collapses after an hour and a half of play, but is solved by restarting the game, I think that’s not a serious problem, losing only 5 minutes and restart to continue enjoying the game ^-^

I found a bug, I think, as it was not mentioned in the update list. When “digging” a gravel block with the hand tool, it produces a random number of pebbles and a gravel block, which displays the same properties as the first one.

Clarification: the second one produces random number of pebbles, plus a gravel block. It is a never ending cycle…

      • Posted September 14, 2012 at 21:43 | Permalink | Reply

Yep, haven’t thought of that. Good eyes! It should probably produce either pebbles or gravel block, but not both. I was so eager to try out my new block harvesting engine that allows random numbers of stuff to be dropped that I failed to notice that. But it’ll be easy to fix.

Speaking of eyes, it seems the polar bears have short -sightedness. I managed to hit one from far off with a pebble, and it kept on going although it was facing in my direction. I was standing behind a one block high window (no glass) when that happened.

Would it not be a good idea to release a BETA testing version of the game, similar to other games i have seen in development, it would be updated as you make progress so bug testing would be seemless, you could add some sort of wordpress link that allows you to automatically report bugs as you find them. I am not sure of how feasable this is but i thought id mention it anyway
    :)

Microsoft Marketplace would not allow it, as every update must go through them first. But the WordPress link sounds good. Although I think kaalus already has one in the forums…

Are you sure? I killed a bear by dropping sand on it, so I am sure it works… Make sure there is no sand stone beneath the sand.

Yep, there’s a bug in 1.16. Thanks for pointing this out to me. The new damage system damages all blocks and prevents them from stacking with other blocks with a different damage. They will never actually break (their damage resistance is infinite) but they cannot be stacked. That’s bad. I just fixed it, so expect this to work properly in 1.17. Although existing “damaged” blocks will keep their magical non-stacking property :-)

Kallus I have a feature request, that would be useful. In creative make a back button.
This would be helpful when some accidentally dumps lava in their all wood pirate ship. Really hard to put out.

sorry should have added ..yep freezing def gone .. running in south to north corridor nearly next to nothing froze …game time about 2 nights from half way point. 1.16 real time took for ever. 1.17 so much quicker. things look smoother. freezes about…. 0.01 sec if that. vert unoticeable. Question .. is it possible to find the far north of an island (say the beach at the most northern part or does the north regenerate all the time.
i decided to put a corridor from east to west and north to south from a position near the landing point. i havent found a north beach (sea) yet. should i continue, it was all about resporning in the early game and getting back if that makes sense.

sorry sir knight as i type i am bowing to you there is an east beach and as you go very far north the east beach still exists, i went west and i think i have found the sea but i must go and proove that i will let you know, as i found lots of shore line but still much land onwards, i will let you know..

        • Sir Knight
          Posted September 16, 2012 at 01:55 | Permalink

That is interesting, I have never reached any other shorelines… I shall go find them.

        • Sir Knight
          Posted September 16, 2012 at 02:05 | Permalink

Hmm… By east beach, do you mean that the shoreline is in a south to north direction, the west being land, the east sea, or do you mean that the shoreline slowly moves more to the north in a “northeast direction “? I have found the latter case in my worlds.

Sir Knight no offense intended, but after awhile it does begin to feel as if you are spamming the page with comments. You have as much a right as anyone to state your opinions and thoughts, but please be mature and reasonable, two or three comments are one thing; 6-7 in a row is just excessive. This is not twitter.

I’m really glad some one actualy does really read the comments on here. I too get a bit fed up reading some peoples comments about the same old questions like,How do i switch on the game, or how does dropbox work , or how do i load texture packs. it annoys the hec out of me, so i do understand. I do really try to add knew comments and ideas that sometimes helps Kaalus to the direction of the game. I dislike retorict on here though. especially to new peoples ideas. I have read back many pages and i will give you the idea for bats that you first posted long back. I did guess it would be the spooky creature before i read your idea though. but you posted first.

There are two ocean shorelines. One is on the east, i.e. where the sun rises. You always spawn on this shore. The other one is in the south and will be many thousands blocks away. So there is a corner where two shores meet. The terrain generator often makes massive lakes and lagoons, it’s easy to mistake them for a shore.

that makes complete sense as have not tried corridor to south yet. and travelled very far north and no beach apart as you say you head towards sunrise area(east) and shore found easily.

How about different types of skins, then if someone played on multiplayer like in minecraft then you could see who’s who.
