Two-colored pointer

Yes, it’s a compass. I must be more vague next time, you’re too good at guessing :-)

It is a fairly expensive item, requiring iron, copper and a diamond (to hold the pointer). Compass does not show north/south direction (this is already obvious from the location of sun/moon), but rather it shows direction to spawn position, which presumably is your home.

New spawning system is almost finished, I only need to add special case for flying creatures so that they will spawn anywhere, even if they have been eradicated.

I don’t mean to sound dumb or anything but which one points north?
Which one is between the sun and the moon..

Also, you should add ACTUAL constellations.
    Like Polaris, Orion, etc..

Not sure how much time it would take to do that, it would be pretty cool and also useful. Since some constellations can only be seen during different seasons, we could determine seasons like that. Again, not sure how much time it would take. From learning the constellations, where they are… and if you add different season things.. it might take a REALLY long time, but they could be added over time.
You could also give up the whole season thing and just add different seasons.
Also what would be pretty coolio if you did that would to also include tornado season kind of thing… and rain and snowing and melting snow, and more snow the further north you go.

    Too many ideas??

Honestly in minecraft I prefer maps over compasses. However I’m sure they’d be much harder to make.

Wait, so in 1.13 will we be able to spawn animals in Creative mode? Because I think that it’s a hasel not being able too. And I wish we could turn it to harmless mode in the flat world to test things.

When you sleep your spawn point is reset so you don’t have to put your “bed” at spawn

But what about a compass showing your last sleeping position?

That is the spawn position. You spawn where you last slept.

Will the compass change its direction to where you slept or would it still be back where you first spawned

    • Posted June 28, 2012 at 23:36 | Permalink | Reply

It always points to the current spawn position – i.e. where you go when you die

You should make a permanent spawn point because sometime I go on adventures and make shelters along the way. so something pointing back to my house instead of my last shelter would be nice.

I couldn’t help but notice that the compass-in-hand and compass-in-inventory are pointing in different directions. :-) Is the compass-in-inventory a static image that always points N/S (never rotating, unlike the one in hand), or is it just an issue with the hand ending up holding it at a different angle?

If the inventory slot just shows a static image, the I’d vote for updating the code to rotate the needle in the inventory slot as well. Tying this back to the real world: you can attach a compass to your wrist (like a watch), or hang one from your neck / pack / clothing / etc.; that allows you to use the compass while leaving your hands free for other things. In SC terms, that would correspond to occupying one of the 4 always-on-screen inventory slots (so it’s quickly accessible), but not needing to select it (put it in your hand) in order to read it. (I realize this would likely involve new code, but you could probably do something similar to how you show tool damage (a “progress”-like bar overlaid on a static image), just rotating an overlaid image based on the angular value.)

Good idea I like it. Kaalus I think you should implement it

Both compasses show true direction. The one in hand seems to be pointing a bit off because you’re not looking at it straight on. I may need to move it to the center of the screen
