Animals persistence video

I am finally getting somewhere with the new spawning system. Animals now stay where you left them, and when you fence off the area no animals will magically appear there when you go far away and come back.A good solid feature to have, which can be useful later in many ways.

Here’s the video: http://youtu.be/zqbcCb07cTk

Forgive me the music but that’s what I was listening to and it got recorded with the video by accident :-) Hope Iron Maiden guys will not send me a DMCA for that.

My field is set and ready for livestock. (if only I had peasants to attend them… Haha)

quick question, does the fence have to be completely enclosing? for example in my town there are openings in the fence to walk through, will things still be able to spawn inside the fence?

The land animals will only spawn once in any given area. If no animal is inside your fence and you walk away, when you return nothing will be there. Of course unless some animal walks through the hole when you are still close enough.

Nice kaalus. Two quick questions: will there be: special doors for the fences(normal ones don’t look good when built in a fence) and will there be kind of animal spawners, because I actually don’t know how I should get cows onto my island in the ocean cause they don’t even follow me when I hit them…

I thought about gates for fences but because of the fence layout around the central post it’s not trivial. Minecraft does it in a hacky way. Animals spawners would be good for creative, not sure if I manage for 1.13.

I believe there should be some way to breed cows and tame them so that once you have two cows (same color) in a fence you can make more cows

cant wiat! hope you dont mind a technical question but i remember you saying you were having problems with it and flatmaps because animal spawn was calculated based on distance from water. did you use the original calculation with the ocean for your new creature persistence or did you have to rewrite it?

No, distance from ocean bit is still there.

        And hum kaalus, great works..
but just a thing, can you add bait, to attract animals into a direction.. That can be useful to construct a farm..

Kaalus what are you working on now?

    • Posted June 25, 2012 at 00:47 | Permalink | Reply

I have to take a break from spawning. There are still some bits left to finish but I leave it for later. I moved to something very different right now.

How do you milk a cow?

    • Posted June 25, 2012 at 21:22 | Permalink | Reply

Get empty bucket in hand and click a cow. Watch out for bulls. Note: milking does not function in creative mode due to creative mode inventory preventing changes to the bucket.

will coyotes spawn in unight houses? and do the only spawn at a cetain level beacuse i made somethg in the air and they dont spawn in it.

    • Posted June 26, 2012 at 23:47 | Permalink | Reply

Coyotes will only spawn in open air on sand in hot and dry areas. Light does not matter, but there are more of them spawning at night.

also i foung that if you literaly throw something like a snowball, rock chunk, spear and other chunks onto lava it will bounce back to you un harmed

If you are standing close, try throwing when standing further away. Lava consumes items.

Classic Iron Maiden from when I was young. Makes me want to pull the disks out and listen again.

Does that mean, if you catch birds, they will stay as well? Or are they different from land animals?
