Moon phases

While doing the sky update I forgot about the obvious: moon phases. That’s now fixed and moon goes through 8 phases, advancing by one every night:

You can keep count of days in the game (modulo 8) by looking at the moon. Later on I can make certain things in the game only work at e.g. full moon. For example wolves could be extra active then :-)

I recently noticed that a lot of traffic to the blog comes from this website: http://alternativeto.net/software/survivalcraft/. But Survivalcraft only has 3 likes there, so is rather low on the list :-( If you have a bit of time, could you please go there and add a “like”?

Btw. thanks for the feedback about audio – I am aware that animal sounds have become a bit too intrusive since the last update. For 1.13 I plan to cut the range and frequency of mooing and barking. There is also an issue on the phone with garbled sounds that happens from time to time. I suspect I am playing too many sounds at once. The reduction should help that as well.

    Sweet I like that the moon looks so real other than minecrafts which is pretty much a square.

    You should also add eclispes that cause monsters to rise (or animals if you want to stay realstic, it would cause hords and hoards of them) and they happen occasionaly. Also the noises was a probelm cause i could hear howling while mining

    BUG REPORT umm… when you throw a coal chunk or anything alse that is throwable through lava, it comes back to you and lava makes no noise when it burns something.

    Kaalus, I have a question if you dont mind me asking, are you planning on adding new weapons and/or armor in the near future?

      Bow and arrows are top of the list for weapons. But not sure if they make 1.13. Armor is much harder, so will have to wait a bit more.

        before a bow and arrow how about a sword. I know you can use an axe for a weapon but a sword just looks cooler. Also in a while before you add armor make a way to view and edit your character such as being a boy or girl.

        Leave the swords to MC. I don’t think they fit with the whole “realism” idea, since nobody would make a sword to fight animals in the real world (unless you’re a matador Lol). Instead of the sword, we should make a machete, and maybe some kind of club.

        I agree, no swords. The axe is cool, but I think we need something else. I like the club idea (very similar to my mace idea in an earlier post) but the machete doesn’t seem any easier to make than a sword?

        If we can smith an axe or a spear, we can smith a sword-like object, the major difference is amount of metal used; a sword is much more “ore expensive”. I like the machete idea, or a Seax perhaps.

        Bows were added in Alpha 1.24 and armour was added in Alpha 1.26.

    Hey Kaalus…The coyotes are still outside my house when i wake up. Shouldnt they be gone when day comes?

    And they should drop meat when killed.

      The wolves and coyotes stay but stop being aggressive during the day. They may wander away on their own.

        I am not too sure about the non-aggressive part (a bug, perhaps)… I have been attacked several times during the day…
        Solution: Hunt the beast down one by one. Looking forward to the bow to help me do that.

        When you get very close (like almost touching) during the day they will still attack. But this has always been true of wildboars and bulls.

        The problem is, just like with the wildboars, they actively try yo get close to you on their own.

    I have been aware of that, the problem is that the wolfs/dingoes do not stop attacking even after my character wakes up while inside the house. I built the house using trapdoors in the “open position” in lieu of standard walls (to simulate the paper walls on traditional East Asian Hanoks). Perhaps that is the root of the problem?

      They should stop attacking at or soon after dawn. Walls do not matter.

    well the coyotes can hit me through leaves fences doors and othe things. i made a ducttape collar for my cat and it makes her look 2* as cute!!!!!!! i just need to tweak it a bit.

      That may fall off… My cat’s collars always fall off… And that is normal, for the wolves to damage you through doors and such, it happens with all the animals in game.

    Dear Kaalus

    My cool idea for an update later on would be, every four complete moon phases (32 days or about a month) on the new moon the wolves could become peaceful and enter a temporary puppy-like state (sort of the opposite of what you said a full moon might do but happens less often) then the player would have the chanc3 (<- lol) to befriend or adopt one of them and they could be able to do tasks for you. For example it could protect you from attacking creatures,it could dig holes and pits for you by give the location and demensions (L*W*H), & finaly (i would like this the most) it could hunt for you. it could go fid near by creatures, kil,& bring back the remains (to make it more realistic you could limit it one kill per trip because it would bring it back in it mouth). This game to me is ten times any mobile minecraft form of game out there already but this would put it over the edge plus it would make the wolves alone 10 times better than those in minecraft pc version

      instead of you choosing the wolf to adopt, the wolf chooses if it wants to be adopted. Lets say you walk near and interact with the wolf, then there’s a small (25%?) c,chance that it will befriend you. I also think there should be a one befriended wolf limit (at a time). And they should be slightly stronger than their wild friends

    Kaalus this is a suggestion of mine:
    Wolves and coyotes hunt other animals that would be proper for them to hunt, like wolves hunt cows and smaller mammals while coyotes hunt birds and possibly boars because of their size in rl
