In Alpha 1.12 Survivalcraft will get a message of the day feature. So if a problem like the audio issue in 1.11 happens again, I will have a way to tell everybody who launches the game how to workaround it. I think it’s important, because there are a lot of players who don’t ever read the blog or even know about its existence.
Notch was in a better position here because in case of problems he could release a fix in a matter of minutes, while Survivalcraft has to go through the MS certification.
MOTD will appear in the main menu screen above the buttons. The game will try to download MOTD data only when it’s running and at most every 8 hours (provided that the game is active all the time), and the data itself is tiny, so bandwidth usage is close to zero. Initially I will be using Dropbox public folders to host the MOTD content. Dropbox website says there is a 20GB/day bandwidth limit, which should be good enough for up to some millions of players :-) Well, this will put it to the test.
MOTD will also be used as a notification about update and new/upcoming features.
Btw. the dangerous creature still needs some spawning and special audio work before it’s ready. And the cows now run away when they get attacked or are set on fire.
