Flat world

To take a small break from making dangerous animals, I am adding an option to generate flat world in creative mode. This was requested by the guys making the world editor tool, so that they do not have to worry about boundary between the generated and edited world. I think it may also be useful to creative mode players.

But it’s not so simple. The world must have ocean shore, because player and creature spawning is dependent on distance from the ocean. I didn’t want to introduce special cases there for the flat world, so instead I made flat world have ocean as well.

The geometry of the flat world is as follows:

The land starts at coordinates 2000, 2000. To the left and bottom of it is ocean. Above and to the right is land, and it stretches to infinity (in theory). Both land and ocean are on level 64. At the bottom (on levels 0 and 1) there are 2 blocks of bedrock. Ocean is water all the way down to bedrock. Land is one block of grass (at level 64) and then dirt all the way down to bedrock.

That’s how the corner of the land (at coords 2000, 2000) looks in the game:

Notice the vertical cliff of land as it goes down all the way to bedrock.

Btw. The Y axis on the above diagram should actually point down and the whole diagram be mirrored vertically. This is due to how coordinate system works in Survivalcraft. So the corner is at the top left corner of the world.

    Nice work kaalus.
This is something I could use because I’m rather a builder than a survivor so I’m even playing minecraft on creative with no mobs.
But in survivalcraft I will really play survival once it’s a bit more interesting (and once I have a good plan for my house because I’m using minecraft as sandbox for building a perfect house and then I will rebuild it in SC^^)

I like to build, but for me is more interesting to make flat to myself. It’s my opinion. But it’s look likely.

So is there an end to the water?

    • Posted May 19, 2012 at 18:53 | Permalink | Reply

The game does not support negative coordinates, so it will break if you go too far over water.

Quick question.. I just updated 1.25 and I don’t know were to find the button to change it to a flat world… Help please? :(

You can’t change a world that already exsist to flat world, but you can do it when you create a new world. Also, only a world create in creative mode, that could be a flat world.
