Explosion Craters

I am playing with the pressure propagation for explosions, and so far it’s not too good. For all the complexity I put in I am not getting anything very interesting – I could have used much simpler algorithm and get virtually the same results. I’ll spend some more time on it, and if it doesn’t work, I’ll revert to the simpler method.

Here’s a video of some craters I created so far :-)

    That’s some big craters!
Maybe it could be great to implement various barrel’s sizes, differentiated by the among of pouder spend to make it and that would atomize increasing number of blocks . I’d also like see long and short fuses, to diversify explosives’ uses!

Would the explosion affect all materials? As it would allow for interesting and diverse uses if it would “ignore” certain elements, (say: iron cubes), combined with the propagation system. I am thinking of “funneling” the blast into a particular direction…

On a further note, perhaps instead of outright obliteration of gravel, you might want to consider having it break into the usual three stones and scattering, not unlike cannon grape-shot…

Catz would you mind if you could stop asking for cats? Just post it on the forum once and if Kaalus doesn’t put it in then thats that.

Would you mind sharing some of the code of how you set the propertys of the chunk.dat and how you wrote it to a binary file(I know how to write to a binary file but I am not sure what order you did it in)? I am making a SC tool a using the info from files and tech. I finished most of it but I cant seem to set the data of EACH block/chunk/directory. I noticed that the arrays seem to be instansiated wrong(Isnt it Block[] Blocks; Insted of Block Blocks[32768]; ect.) Last, Is the Block struct and SurfacePoint struct multidimensional array? Or are they regular arrays. Thank you if you respond and help me. I know you are busy continuing working on SC so thanks even if you dont respond. I would prefer if you replyed to me at brysonewell@hotmail.com.

Those craters are seriously big. So when I wanna destroy a building I end up destroying the whole town??!! I think you should make explosion a bit smaller or I’ll end up blowing up my town!

Kaalus , do you wants add a bed?

    • Posted April 30, 2012 at 14:40 | Permalink | Reply

Bed is a minor feature that I plan to add when I start to flesh out the survival aspect of the game. In Survivalcraft you can sleep on anything soft that is not too exposed to the elements.

I know it, but sleep on the bed looks better than sleeping on the boards against the wall)

      What is this cuboid?

The cuboid is a system to build very quickly, you place 2 object (mushroom, flower) , and all the area between the 2 object was full of blocs, (wood , or stone, water etc).. This is very useful :)

Hey Kaalus — when the explosive is detonated are the blocks destroyed or are they collectable?

How will the fuse be lit for the explosive? Will there be a new item to light it, like matches or a flint and steel, or will you just tap on it? Also, will there be a way to set different fuse times for the explosive?

    • Posted May 2, 2012 at 01:42 | Permalink | Reply

There is a new item, video coming soon :-) No, the fuse time will be fixed in 1.11
