Cave entrances

I discovered that one perf bottleneck of 1.7 was excessive number of caves. So I am culling them a bit for 1.8, but more importantly I finally found a reason cave entrances were blocked most of the time (and looked crap). This is now fixed, and you can expect to find some proper cave entrances:

I am still on track to submit 1.8 today.

    Not bad. So I can now find a cave from 1.6 world, which is blocked?

      This probably won’t be the case, as code alteration of this kind are usually specific to the first time generation of a world but I have to admit, it would be pretty cool if kaalus could add some sort of code to reveal cave entrances that are 2 or 3 block from the surface… Is this possible kaalus?

    i hope this doesn’t add a repetitive nature to all the caves, i kinda like going in and having unexpected surprises

    repetitive like all entrances look the same, all caves are the same depth, all caves spawn at ground level and only resources in the caves are randomized (coal machilite limestone ect)

    Yah can you fix the malachite problem.

      I doublechecked that, and malachite still generates as far as I can see. Cross-section of terrain is full of it. It may be deeper, because there is less basalt than previously. But to be one the safe side I increased the amount of basalt slightly and put some more malachite in.

        I found some in bassalt really close to Hedrick and there was barely any.

    Entrance looks OK, but I agree with Code5 – I kinda like to explore new caves, so I hope that the randomization will stay the same.

    Can’t wait for creative mode! ^_^

    can you please make trees spawm more often? and more minrals like dimonds scract that make this almost exactly like minecraft

      Hi tanamel. I’d love to, but performance would suffer. Trees are a lot of geometry. I envy people who make PC games, they can just put any number of anything in, while I have to agonize over every triangle :-( Game would be better if I could double the number of trees, plants, caves, magma pockets etc. but I can’t unless we say Titan is the minimum spec.

    Can there be swords that deal more damage than spears. And a bow and arrow to take out far enemies.

        It might be fun but it depends, are they going to be lit on fire. Haha just kidding. I would like cow and customized clothing though. You should look into zombie survival in the forum it is a power point by me in feature requests.
