New items in 1.7

Thanks for all the feedback on survival mechanics. It is still a few updates away probably.

As I said in one of the last posts, I want to add a couple of new items in 1.7, they will accompany the new animal (which is almost ready by the way). The new items look like that:

I bet you can guess how this setup works :-) The black dots on the top item were meant to be transparent, but somehow that didn’t work out on the screenshot. But they are transparent in the game.

Apart from that you’ll also get these, but you’ve seen them already:

Water texture animation works very nicely, it added a lot of believability to the water. Now when there is a slope on the surface of the water, it looks as it is flowing, not stationary. That said, the bug with caves generated underwater still exists :-( I have thought about it for so long now, and I think I have an idea how to best fix it. Basically, when I generate a cave I will have to detect that water has been touched and fill the cave with water instead of air, but only from certain point down. All in all a complex solution, but should not slow down the generator too much.

You can see it in action here:

Survivalcraft Alpha 1.7: Water animation

Agreed, I’d like to see something that would protect the player from falling damage too, 6 out of 10 times i die from trying to get off a mountain :(

Maybe the snowball will stun them, leaving them open for attack

Hopefully! I spend about 15 minutes trying to kill a single bird with my wooden spear!

Oh, could you say, which animal is it? You said it can be dangerous sometimes, which animal can be dangerous sometimes? Rhino? Fox? Wolf? I don’t know, unfortunately.

I think it’s wolf, snake or maybe Kaalus’ imaginary creature =]

        Maybe it’s kaalus himself?
He wants to eat all player to take the world domination and then he wins the “Forever Alone”-Award :D

Some natives as mobs will be cool. Finally no more alone but not safe.
They should tamable, so we can make friends :D
        Wouldn’t this be cool?

I’m not exactly sure what micro Klein is trying to say but plz don’t make ppl “tameable”, that sounds an awful lot like slavery. But in all seriousness I’m sure what ever Kaalus puts in the next update will be super awesome

Sounds awesome! I actually really like that idea. Probably won’t pan out but I would love to see bands of 3-4 natives who would have to be made peace with or else risk invasion. Maybe they have an eye for malachite? So many ideas…. Probably enough to warrant another game entirely. still, its creative.

        @reundeadified
I meant with tamable, that we should make the natives to our friends.
Not to enslave them, which is not good.
It should be like reebs said, this will be more fun :D (maybe we can even trade with them)

    Kaalus,

Is there a way we could get a recipe list on this site?

Oh, may be you are right. And if that, Kaalus need to get recipes out of game.

Hi Kevin. Not easily because I would have to maintain that separately from the game, it’s a lot of added work :-(

Looks great! I think the value of killing birds will have to increase with the addition of ground animals and traps, or we risk birds becoming obsolete. Either that or the birds becoming easier to catch

Maybe they’ll drop feathers or something that can be used for decorations or maybe even use them on decoys to lure the birds to you
