Alpha 1.4 and animals progress

Alpha 1.4 is still in certification as of today, but it will likely hit the marketplace in a couple of days.

On the animals front, I have finished the collisions work, and it made my physics code even more complicated than it used to be. Stairs and sneaking added quite a lot of magic to it before, and now the animals. I have a feeling that it may become a performance bottleneck with a lot of animals, so the time to optimize and clean up may come sooner rather than later.

I am also aware of some issues people have with it, namely that you can sometimes die when you jump near a ladder while in sneak mode and in a confined space. Basically the reason is when Survivalcraft is unable to resolve a collision (a rare occurrence), it will attempt teleporting the player to the safety of a neighboring cell. If this fails, as is likely in a cramped space full of ladders, it has no other option but to kill. Otherwise a lot of crazy things could happen.

On a more positive note, I am now moving to implement some actual behaviors of the animals. This should be fun. I can’t say what animals will come first yet, because I need to see how the behaviors work out :-)

It’s absolutely amazing how fast you create new features. It would be amazing to have birds as the first animals. But I think you should start this from an alternative aspect than Minecraft, just to make the game unique :D
Still, I’m a bit concerned about the games performance, because moving entities really use the CPU… So, as I said in one of my early posts, it would still be great if you could make view distance configurable and/or the animals configurable. Thanks for reading :)

U should post your collision.code there a quite a few programmers who follow your game. They may be able to suggest improvements to your detection

Great work as usual kaalus, commendable.

logically I think that the most practical animals should come first such as cows, sheep, pigs, etc.- animals that can produce things. While animals like turtles and birds would be fun to have and try to catch, they really won’t add as much to the game unless you want to implement tortoise-shell soup or something like that.

Just my two cents, keep up the good work

well with turtles you could make weaker armor like turtle shell helms and shields and such as well a them being an ingredient to a soup lol

cows, sheeps, and pigs would just be like minecraft i think that we should implement completely different animals and stay as far away as we can from those animals.

Maybe this is a bit too much to ask, but could you please send me the values that are used when using furnace? I mean, that probably every burnable block has a value, and using that the game calculates how long it will last before exhausting. Of course, that is for the wikia, not just for my own pleasure :)

Could i have the harvesting times for each block too and values for furnaces as well. Please send them to when you get around to it.

Hi kenkesey8. Fuel burn times are quite simple at the moment. Coal burns for 80 seconds, wood for 20, planks and other wooden items (such as stairs or crafting table etc.) for 5 seconds, leaves for 1 second.

So I’m just wondering would 1.4 improve performance for deep caverns/ bunkers cuz I’ve built a bunker type thing that goes all the way down to bedrock down and I frequently go down there cuz it links areas of the world together (yes its getting that big) and long story short it seems like the deeper I go the more the game lags until I reach bedrock and look up at the ceiling then the FPS is almost cut in half
The world is about 6mb right now

    Hey man,
Great work with the Game :-D
But there is ins Bug issue…
I Keep getting lost in the World… Since everything looks the same it is hard to orientate. It would be awesome if you Gould implement some sort of map or compass .

This isn’t really a bug its just that is it is actually really hard to get lost. I can hardly remember all the times i have gotten lost.

El granito se puede usar igual que la piedra regular… Si revisas la Recipaedia, las cosas que puedes hacer con la piedra regular también se pueden hacer con el granito. La única diferencia es la imagen del material.
