Alpha 1.3 is out!

It should now be available in most places. As you can see, the surprise feature is a furnace :-) No more crafting from coal and minerals, now you have to properly smelt them. Furnace also generates light while it is smelting.

I am still working on the animals. This is going to take some more time before I can show you anything.

In the meantime, I am also preparing a new interim update (1.4) which will contain bugfixes for a bunch of smaller issues I found in Alpha 1.3 since I submitted it, and a large bugfix for the large worlds slowness issue (http://survivalcraft.lefora.com/2011/12/21/possibly-the-games-worst-bug).

This last fix is a fairly large modification that completely changes the file format used by Survivalcraft. Because I don’t want you to lose your existing worlds, I added an automatic conversion procedure that will run when you first enter an old world. Once a world is converted to the new format, it will work the same way as new worlds created in 1.4.

I don’t want to make 1.4 only a pure bugfix release, so it will also contain a small number of new features. I’ll say more about them later :-) I should be submitting it soon.

Update: there is a new set of icons for wikis available for download in the left sidebar.

Just wondered, how do you get heat without coal? Because I need to burn wood to get coal, but I need coal to burn wood?

You can use both wood and coal as fuel, but coal is much more efficient. Even leaves can be used, but they only last a couple of seconds, so you need to shovel heaploads of them to smelt anything.

Pretty lame Jesus lol although when isn’t he, and leave a trail of torches behind you as you go or blocks of sand if your on dirt and vice versa makes it incredibly easy to find your way back

That’s to much work to leave a trail it e easier to put a map.if u use torches rey are gonna run out u need to make allot and there wouldn’t be any point of exploring caves to find coal if your just gonna waste it on torches

Then use sand and dirt! you don’t even have to make a complete trail, you just have to set a block every here and then so you can see it in the distance and know the right direction…

no “jesus” (facepalm) what do you use coal for if not torches and really its to hard to leave a trail what do you only have one finger? Every 20 to 30 blocks more if you on flat terrain stop and push on the ground that sounds alot easier than coding a map into the game PS change your name its annoying to see it get capitalized when I right it like it an important word or something

I don’t know what happened but I seems like I lost my world. I had already built so much and I can’t seem to find my house. It was on the coast for an easy find and it’s gone? HELP

Are you sure you are looking in the right place, have you tried walking up and down the coast for a bit? If you still can’t find it, are you getting low on disk space?

On my omnia7 the game is slower after the 1.3 update. :( (medium graphics settings) On low graphics setting the game runs very fast.
Not a really big problem. Because this is my favorite game. :)

Hi cg. Place 9 pieces of stone in the crafting table and take out the middle one. You can also check Recipaedia for all recipes.
