Stairs

Stairs are almost completed. What remains to be done is drawing of a stair block when it is held in hand or lying on the ground. And there are also some lighting issues with them. Btw. stairs can also be used for roofs or to simulate broken wall sections, so it’s quite a useful block.

To do them I had to change the way collision of player with blocks is done. This affected autojump – it is quite cool now, you no longer jump “above” the block to get on top of it, but rather climb onto it. At least that’s how it looks like, it is much smoother. After these changes I think autojump works so well that disabling it makes little sense.

Another thing I changed is to make sneak button sticky, as requested in the comments. I agree that it will work better this way.

Next thing to do will probably be ladders, doors or slabs.

And Alpha 1.1 is still in certification. Just a couple more days to wait, I think.

Awesome man, Stairs will be sweet :) I just want to thank you again Kaalus, you’re doing an amazing job. Can’t wait for the updates :D Keep up the amazing work. Anything else planned for 1.2?

Wow, sweet! I believe you should work on doors before ladders, then work on creatures. Not sure if slabs are really that important to you, but to a consumer like me, they are not really that much.
Also, not to rush, but I think that 1.2 should also include the addition of monsters that spawn at night and in deep caves withiin a radius of a light source, new ores to find, an oven (for smelting), and animals that the player can hurt (have their own damage) to gain meat to eat to restore their health. And also beds!
Thanks and keep up the great work! This itself is already is better than Minecraft Pocket Edition!

Glad half block/stairs will be in for 1.2… can’t wait for 1.1 let alone 1.2 lol…

I just want to congratulate you on the fine job you are doing. As a web developer I understand how hard it is to keep up with feature requests. However, you seem to be on top of everything! Trying to keep everyone happy is almost impossible but the amount of features you are adding weekly and in some cases daily is amazing, you deserve a lot of credit for your hard work.

If you keep this up I’m sure that SC will be a major hit for years to come!

I was very disappointed myself. Its like walking in slow-motion when set to full. Maybe there is some optimization that can be done.

Hello, stairs and slabs will block what?

Excellent work Kaalus, your work is keeping me away from sandwich sadness on my lunch breaks, I now have a 5 level well-lit mansion (Surviving pretty well here – I was fortunate enough to build my house on a giant stream of stone and coal, right next to the beach too!). Doors would be excellent – especially if your looking at putting monsters in sooner rather than later :-)

Giant thank you for bringing us this! :-)

All the updates are looking great! I’ve been holding off on spending too much more time on the game since it sounds like some of the new additions, such as ore, won’t pop up near previously dug areas. I’ve done a lot of digging, haha, so I will most likely start fresh with the update. I really hope the next big release includes monsters/creatures. I realize this will be no small task but it would make the game a bit more immersive and relevant. The new tools, spawn point, stairs, etc. are all fantastic and will certainly add to the game, but creatures would cause a huge leap in user experience and lasting appeal. It also gives the game more purpose.

Please don’t take the above as criticism in any way. I’ve already logged more time into this game (maybe 20+ hours) than any of the others. It’s amazing and the best part is that the future potential looks even better. I can’t wait to see what you have in store.

I look forward to the new update, also could you include a mode (possibly called creative mode) where the player has no enemy’s and can fly (noclip) around to just simply build things, also what would be cool is if you were to make a creative mode, you could have A shop with every kind of block and ‘item’ in it and another shop where you could place down a block that is like a spawn point for enemy’s (just a cool suggestion) also if you haven’t already, you should include TNT and C4, that would be fairly cool
Anyways good job on the game and I hope for future updates
    Nice kaalus

Oops I meant don’t make the enemy’s spawn randomly on creative just let us place a block where the spawn and then turn the spawning on in like the options menu

Pretty sure that defeats what little purpose this game has at the moment, making that mode would also keep kaalus from making the more important recipes and mobs and so on it might be a good idea once the game is out of alpha and beta.

Download the file. In Windows Explorer (if you’re using Windows) rename it to “blocks.zip”. I’m not sure how to do it on Mac or Linux. Then unzip it. It works on mine.

Which bit of this process does not work for you?
